  • Best - Free rig - EVERRR.....

  • Great rig!

A couple of things that would make life much easier for animators.

    - A "look at" option for the eyes.

    - A way for the head rotation to be independant of the body rotation so that when the body moves the head stays rotated at the same angle no matter what the body is doing.

Apart from that, this is the best free rig I've seen. Thanks so much for making it available.

  • Bravissimo!!

  • Thanks for this free rig. It looks great.

  • Thanks to people like you people have a chance at animating. Very much appreciated.

  • Baskin this is awesome! Totally gonna use him for practice. See ya in class next term :P

  • AWESOME :)

  • Hey I have downloaded the rig, but I have some problems...my Maya version it is 2008, did you know if there is not a compatibilty?

  • Hi Mariano-

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, Blake should work fine with Maya 2008. Just go to File>Open Scene... (Options) and make sure that "Ignore Version" is checked.

    Best,

    Jason

  • hello, i have " Maya 8.0 " i tried to open this rig but i get an error:

"Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss. Please check the Script Editor for details."

i looked in the file>open scene>options but did not see anything to "ignore version"

can you please help me to get this working?

  • i got it working by changing the version from 2008 to 8.0 by opening it in note pad and saving it before opening it in maya 8.0

  • Wow!

    Superb rig man. Congrats!

Would you mind telling me how to edit the scriptjob (?) in order to keep the space switching functionalities whene referencing the character please.

I have no idea what to do and I want to use the rig so bad! :)

Again, thank for sharing this rig with us. It simply rocks.

  • Go to Window>Animation Editors>Expression Editor and choose Select Filter>By Script Job Name...

Select the Script Node named "blake_FKIK_SpaceSwitch_script Node" and edit the second line of the script to match your import prefs:

    For example:

    global string $prefixName = "";

    could be changed to

    global string $prefixName = "blake_v1:";

    Click "Edit" and "Test Script."

Be sure to modify a separate script node for each character you import or reference.

  • great rig, using it in 8.5 with no problems, want to give you a big thank you because there is a bit of a shortage of really nice professional grade free rigs available, especially ones with such an appeal factor. Thanks for sharing all the time and effort it took to make this with the rest of us.

  • Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

I'm using Maya 2009 in this video, but this rig should work on earlier versions of Maya as well (though you may need to modify the ASCII heading before opening).

doc109, you might check out the Digital Tutors or Gnomon DVDs for more information about skin weights.

    Best,

    Jason

  • good job man,thanks alot

  • which version of Maya is this?

is there a tutorial on how to create these controllers. need a tutorial on weight mapping, can you help?

  • Awesome! This is a great character model. Good Job I will try to mess around with it to see what I can get done lol. Thanks man!
