  • love this!

  • this video could of easily ended up a cheesy misinterpretation, good job!

I wasnt sure what to think of the end though, the lake seeing its own beauty reflected. Does that mean the lake (society? other people?) is also self-absorbed?

I guess what it really means is, you can never truly know oneself or your environment, only that which you can perceive (beauty is in the eye of the beholder)

  • so very wonderful...keep it up, really

  • there is not a female counterpart?

  • 0:15 f

  • This was just amazing. It had such a deep impact on me. Specially the end was a real “eye-opener”. Like the moment when adam and eve bit into the apple and saw the “truth”.. really nice “oohh-wow effect”..just fantastic.. I’m still lost in your words.. really good .. the music aswell!

  • @Saphir8 - Thanks! I am really pleased it had such a great impact and that you enjoyed it. People like you and reactions like that are the reason I persevere with my work. :)

  • if there was a world than saying "i like it sooo muchhh" i will say it and spell it in CAPITAL LETTERS! ! i fond of the voice which gives a pleasur weither !!

  • beautiful, i love it

  • Top video!

  • every one is having a narcissus inside us , we praise others to be praised ,we love others to be loved ,its only we in our minds all the time and nno one else

  • thank you so much thefoolangel! perfect video (:

  • was he gay????

  • @lablask Yes, I think he was from the tales I've heard

  • What a beautiful story.

  • Every city in greece made their own versions of every single myth, there is not one true myth. live with it :P

  • i think i look better then that guy and all the guys on youtube.

  • I read that Hera cursed Echo because Echo distracted he while Zues went with another woman...

  • νάρκισσος was the son of λειριόπης

they cursed him because no one could make him be in love..even the gods..echo was a nymph and she fall in love with that beuty thats why they cursed him..

there are so many versions of that myth...

  • Omg I love him! I am just like him, can't stop looking at myself! I want a full length film of this!! Please tell me if there i such?

  • that was clever at the end...

    my own beauty reflected...

  • Good film.

  • Nemesis caused him to fall in love with his reflection, and finally he withered away and all that was left was the narcissus flower, named by the water nymphs. Ehe.

  • Fantastic Video! Absolutely brilliant! And the ending is just beautiful :-) Love it!

  • was it really written in the mythology like that? that the lake/river itself is "narcissistic"?

  • Echo was actually a nymph that was cursed by Hera, cuz she distracted her while Zeus was having affairs. She could only repeat wat others say, also she admired Narcissus but wen Narcissus found out she was 'stalking' him he rejected her. She disappeared leaving only her voice to remain and died from recieving no love and of heartbreak, sad isn't it?

  • yes, Echo was cursed, but could only say the last 2 words someone else had said.

  • How is being in love with yourself a curse? :) Great video!

  • ///////////actually i think hera got mad at Echo for talking so much she gave her the curse that she had to repeat what people said......and she was stalking narc and he said somthing to her like i would rather die than be with you and she said somthing like "kill me now" and she was turned to stone and all that was left was the echoes in the hills when u say somthing it echoes and i think Narc got in trouble by hera and she made it so that he could see his reflection in the water

  • nicely done. my name is 'roy narcissus war ii', i was always told another version. a version of the gods turning him into a flower because he was of no use... since he enjoyed being admired they transformed him into a flower so that that was all man could do....enjoy his beauty.

  • What a charming voice the narrator has. (The subtle reverb really makes it mesmerizing!)

And what a charming short film, too. This is one of my favorite myths and it was a joy to see it come to life. :)

  • the boy looks cute^^

  • this is really beautiful, your voice is really pretty! oh, and i especially love the last part because it seems that narcissism lives on, and I'm not referring to the flower lol. Although adding the flower part would've been nice, I like how they describe it as the flower bending to see its own reflection.

  • this should have so many more views, really really good.

  • Thanks! If I only... Maybe I should rename it "asian schoolgirls strip naked and kiss" or something ;)

  • just tag it with sex and technology and it'll get loads of views.

  • @thefoolangel it may be a year old but yes that would be a good idea.

  • Loved it <333

The young man portraying Narcissus looks Greek indeed ;D

  • This is my favorite interpretation of the myth! It's the most beautiful. I love how the lake had personification, being just as vain as Narcissus.

  • handsome boy but he doesn't look a bit like the narcissus by Caravaggio

  • That painting was merely Caravaggio's interpretation. Caravaggio lived after the myth was written, so it's very likely that he even saw Narcissus.

  • "I weep because each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected"

My Jaw literally dropped. I was experiencing mental orgasm!

  • @BenivolentWarlock I mental orgasmed at the whole script, very hott, Narcissm turns me on anyhow

  • @DerangedFather If you're like me, A huge mirror is your bestfriend, the only entity that truly understands you. I read my comments again and I am still twitching.

  • @BenivolentWarlock If I could afford it, I'd have the walls in my room made into mirrors

  • @DerangedFather That wood be Kickass and creepy at the same time. Maybe I've had too much horror movies lately

  • im doing a research paper on this dude

  • did you write all of the text? i've never heard the end bit about the lake, i thought it very powerful. i am curious to know where it is from.

    beautiful job.

  • Thanks. I read a variety of retellings of the myth and then wrote the script out of all of the various pieces swirling around in my head. It references several existing ones but is an original synthesis fresh out of my mind. Glad you like it. :)

  • so you don't remember at all where the bit about the lake came from? about how the lake cried for narcissus because it could see its reflection in his eyes? i'm really desperate to find it. if you could point me in some kind of specific direction i would really appreciate it. thanks. :)

  • @vincentglassisaghost the ending bit sounds like it's from Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. Although the story spans only the prologue of the book.

  • I love the narrator, the music and storyline... But I don't quite understand the modern-dressed children by the well?

  • Everyone knows all beautiful guys are being kept underground at Area 51.

They could have done worse =)

  • lol :-)

  • Beautiful.

  • baas boven baas... beautiful voice, surprising end. 5*

  • Thank you.

  • This is a mesmerizing voice! Makes me want to hear more!! Waht a wonderful video, really enchanting, 5* :)

  • me encanta

  • Muchas gracias Chico, estoy alegre que usted tiene gusto de él.

  • That ending shut me up.. How genius is that logo at the start too

  • i love the narrator's voice and the kinda creepy sound track in the back.

  • Beautiful short film. The camera was as in love as Narcissus himself and the the narrator had the voice that dreams are made of. Yes, poor Mr. Wilde was once again ignored. Being a true Anglophile, my one anger is to this day when gay men can openly serve in Her Majesties Military Service a statue over shadowing Nelson does not stand in Trafalgar Square.

  • Although, I wish you had included the story of Echo more, it was an excellent portrayal of Narcissus.

You should do more Greek myths. The narrator's voice is perfect for them!

  • This is really good! I love the narrator's voice and the lake's comment at the end.

  • i think the actor in this is the most beautiful person i've ever seen. gorgeous

definately someone i could fall in love with

  • thats a nifty lil ending huh

  • Lovely video. Filming, storytelling, everything was fantastic. This is also one of my favorite myths~

  • Why is there no mention of Oscar Wilde's prose poem in the credits? This is an adaptation of Wilde's "The Disciple". Very nicely done!

  • beautiful video, beautiful voice, 5/5 loved it!

  • Well they could have put a little more handsome Narcissus in the movie. Brad Pitt with long hair would be perfect. LOL!

  • should have been chris brown LOL!!

  • I loved this. Awesome ending, I did not see that coming at all. I like the narrator too, such a chilly voice.

  • That was wonderful... the music, the narrator's voice.... all of it.

    Great job.

  • the guy is also Greek looking! He seems one of that perfect body sculptures that Greek liked. I liked very much this tale. Loved also the female narrator.

  • loved it

  • nicely done, I enjoyed it

  • what was this shot and edited on. Some of the images are fantasic.

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it. We shot it on DV Cam and edited on Final Cut Pro. Feel Free to check out my website to see some other work: foolangel dot com

  • this is the story when zeus was cheating on his hife and he told echo to chat to hera to distract her then when hera found out she cursed echo and echo could only repeat the last word everyone said then she fell in love wit narcissus but he didnt like her so he rejected her then the god of revenge cursed narcissus so he can love himself and get no love in return yep i love this story....

  • Beautiful.

  • Very nice cinematography. Was this professionally done?

  • That's all and good, but, where is Echo?

  • It is one of the lesser known variations on the ancient myth. Im glad you liked the film. Thanks for taking the time to watch it and comment. :)

  • This is really beautiful!

Was the last part about the lake weeping for Narcissus from the novel "the alchemist" or is it from Ovid's story?

    i feel sorry for Narcissus
