If a cartoon like this were made today there would be parents protesting because it contains excessive violence, cross-dressing, disturbing imagery, an ending that isn't happy, and the meaning would be lost on the children because an opera is too complex for a modern child to comprehend with parents demanding that a more "modern" reference be made.

What I love about this cartoon is how 'all out' they went. Listen carefully to the 65+ piece Warner Bos studio orchestra play at an insane level of virtuosity, notice the dozens of background paintings, the special effects animation, the ballet moves copied from live performers, and on and on. If Chuck Jones created NOTHING ELSE, he'd still be a legend. The fact that this film wasn't even nominated for an Oscar is astounding, practically criminal.

The Elmer Fudd "weturn my wove" scene was partially re-used from 1945's cartoon "Herr meets hare". I wouldn't go as far to say that it was recycled footage, but the music as well as Bugs bunny as a viking girl on a horse was based off of that.
