  • There seems to be alot of boys with saxo syndrome here. My saxo is faster than anything on the road type bollocks. The civic is the better car all round. I have had a Jordan and own a VTi I have had VTS and VTR saxos and in nearly every way my honda's have been the much better cars.

  • Just to smooth out a few creases with Honda fanboys incorrectly arse chatting here... The Saxo VTS is a tiny bit quicker then a VTI off the mark from 0-60 but... the VTI has the upperhand on top speed. You need to look at parkers guys - VTS 0-60 7.5s top speed 125. VTi 0-60 7.9s top speed 130 (B16A2) VTi 0-60 8.0s top speed 140 (B18C) I rest my case...

  • i have a sax vtr and a vti civic. both fun cars. saxo is fun when bmw's and taxi drivers think oh saxo lets shoot off at traffic lights and then end up eating dust also fun on countyr roads. but the build quality is admitily awful. civic is way more comfy and strong even when lowered and you do feel that bit more upper class when driving the civic. cant really compare speed seen as the saxo has 1.6 90bhp and my civic has 1.6 160bhp but saxo has fun low end torque and civic is great hi up rmp

  • the chassis is made in italy, french and italian brands tolds everybody anyday how to make a chassis, btw why there are no vw etc etc in rally? after that, a saxo cost 3000euros, add 3000euro you got a saxo turbo, for 6000e, and you smoke everything on the roads from 0 to 200km/h... and on moutain roads, maybe an impreza or evo can follow you, nothin else...that make the saxo better, a 6000e car burning 60 000e cars on acceleration and corner speed...

    rally, roads, may be different but a car is a car...and u can do rallies on the road, saxo being modified will up to 12000€ for 300+whp, so i dont think you can do that with other cars, dont forget vti is 160bhp, vts is 120, try 160 in the vts or take a 106gti, same thing but vmax is slightly highter. difference between saxo/civis is the services price+the vts engine can handle 300000km easy

  • its about 118 french bhp stock car, in front of a 160bhp other car until the 4th gear...knowing that the PSA cars are "straped" at exhaust and intake, you can easily get an extra 30bhp with about 1000€ without modifying the engine...on a 1.6 atmo... personaly i dont like the saxo design but its built from the pug 106 that i really like so i would say : its a little city car for 5 people with a hatch where you can put ur travel bags, a great engine to pass the 300 000kms and unbeatable frame

  • You can easily get an extra 30bhp from any engine without modifying the engine its-self. You can do it with T/Diesels even. "Its a city car for 5 people" yeah but thats with 2 adults in the front & 3 little kids in the back. You cannot fit 5 full adults & their luggage in a Saxo! My Leon can just about squeeze 5 adults in & its a bigger car ffs! So I don't think a cramped little Saxo is going to hold 5 adults & their travel bags somehow, Maybe in dreamland. But not in the real word.

  • with T/D? what you will make is only change the max value of the turbo pressure coded in the eprom of the car, so you got ur turbo spinning faster, btw u can do that on all turbos engines... not even D, and why injection turbo car owner dont do that? cuz they know modifying only that param will ruin the engine, its a jacky boy customisation from companies to take you 400/600 euros, nothing more nothing less, if you want ur engine to pass 200k km, dont do that for sure...

  • @JTV84 You mean the "shitty" remapped 'Diseasel' which runs 280lb/ft and laughs at Honda Civic VTi 1.8 B18C's and 1.6 VTi B16A2's, Saxo VTS's, and any V6 2.5 ST24 to an MGZT 190? With fuel prices going up I know which one I'd rather have. With a diseasal at least you can drive how you want without panicking about fuel consumption dropping like a fly all the time. In anycase hows your Shitroen? Broken down yet? Or have you been waiting for the AA ever since we last spoke...

  • @1ns4ne1d10t if you must know, my shitroen is still going strong at 153000 miles with a nice 145lb/ft and 90% of that available all the way from 1800rpm to 7250rpm, just remind us how wide your power band is and how much of that peak torque is left after it's been through your ridiculously high ratio'd gearbox?

  • @JTV84 145lb/ft!? Is that some kind of a joke? An electric mobility scooter has more power then that. Can I remind you that your power is only on full tap after 3,500/4,000 revs not 2,000-7,250 because a petrol has hotter weaker exhaust gasses then a Diesel which increases power towards its maximum Bhp once the valves have all opened out. Try and throw yours in a low gear and overtake me, you will soon find out how my high ratio gearbox and short powerband leaves you going in reverse. Lol

  • @1ns4ne1d10t so are you an expert on citroen engines now? i just stated a FACT, that i have at least 120lb/ft from below 2000rpm to over 7000rpm. yes my peak horsepower comes at over 6000rpm because power is a product of torque and revs. and what's this shit about valves? they have the same duration and lift at any revs unless you have VTEC or similar.

  • @JTV84 I know a darn site more about engines and mechanical works then you will ever try to guess right in your lifetime chum(p) so I wouldn't even bother trying to talk me down with the shit chatting. Petrols lift at 2,000 - 3,500 and lift higher from from 3,500 - 6,000 because of stronger exhaust gas flow. If its a Vtec it has 3 cam lobes. It will lift from 2,000 - 3,500 - lift higher from 3,500 - 5,500 then break out in Vtec from 5,500 - 8,000 if its a VTi or 7,000 if its a Sport.

  • @1ns4ne1d10t and say for instance your car is geared twice as high as mine in a given gear, the effect of the torque in that gear will be halved, so you would have the equivalent of 140lb/ft, at least until you run out of steam at 4000rpm :-P

  • @JTV84 Go and annoy a driver in a CDTI 150 Astra or a TDI 150 Leon and watch how you won't keep up with its backside when it hits boost. Its called torque power its something French cars don't have. You can go to as many revs as you like in your shed, you won't catch a TDI on its boost. I can assure you the 4,000 revs and high gearage will never allow you to catch up and pass. The Diesels will disappear and leave you burning out your engine at 6,000 revs wondering where the hell its run off to.

  • @JTV84 Most of the time I don't annoy NA petrol cars because I'm not sad enough to do that. I have a life so I leave them alone. Its them that come up and try to drag me out because they all think "Its just a diesel". Mine slaps them right round the chops really hard where they don't expect it. The confusion on their face as to why a 1.9 diesel just beat them is epic. I'm very good chucking mine round an A-road, the heavy nose requires a bit of extra skill, but learn and you will be surprised.

  • well i own both of them yep thats right! my civic vti has done 107K miles, and is 1995 model, my saxo vts, 62K miles, made in 1999 and despite the age and mileage my civic rinses it every time.

    I have given keys to my dad/mates on many occasions and once the saxo caned ass, but that was purely down to shifting.. Cant say the saxo has been problem free like the civic either

  • In a Vtec you have to hit 5000rpm before the second camshaft kicks in, so therefore for the majority of the accelerating your doing, you would be only using 8 valves (therefore you won't be harnessing all 160bhp until you hit the "VTEC moment".

    If a decent driver (who knew the VTEC system were to drive both cars, the Honda would be more likely to win, however foot to the floor to the limiter, shift, foot to the floor to the limiter, (EG Chav/Noob driving) the VTS would cream it all day.

  • the vtec engines run on 16 valves all the time,

    vtec engines have 3 lobes on each cam for each cylinder, and the 3rd cam (which is larger and longer) is only activated when vtec is engaged.

    The technology of turning on the other 2 valves was last used in the 1983 honda cbr400 ( a ledgendary bike!!!)

  • @danhoare11 it uses 16 valves all the time, the VTEC cam lobe only holds the valves open longer, its actuated by an oil spool valve that opens and then lets a locking pin lock the 3 cam lobes together in the same position and thus uses the power cam instead of the economy cams.

  • I love Honda's. But I gotta say the VTS is about the same pace. It just has better power per weoght ratio with the VTS. The civic is more fun to drive tho. All the way up to 8,200rpm..weeee :-) And as a rule, I hate french cars. Its well known they break easily.

  • So why when i race vti's in my vts do i win??? I don't win all the time but i've beat most vti's i've raced. I beat a jordan the other night, but there is a black vti that always beats me so I don't know there about even in my humble opinion!

  • this is the portuguese version of saxo. The saxo cup, with 1.6 cc and 120 bhp stock. THe civic is a 1.6 cc with 160 bhp stock. This is saxo has many mods though and is quite fast until it hits 5th gear, at around 180 km/h.

  • nah m8 they hav a maximum output of 118.6bhp, 0-60mph times do vary from 7.6 to 8.6 seconds but ive seen numerous tests they vary but usually they end up at around 8.2 seconds, ive been in both cars before and the civic is quicker i reckon this saxo is tuned, theres a 3 second difference to 100mph which is a lot (in standard form) in racing terms, so my guess would be that this saxo is pushing 145 maybe 150bhp to beat this civic in a staight line.

  • The DOHC vtec on the VTi's means that initially from a stand still their acceleration isn't as quick as some cars, as the VTEC doesn't kick in until 5600rpm - thats why you can see the saxo pulling away to start with. As soon as civic hits its power band, game-over to Saxo. SOHC civic has faster inital acceleration

  • the VTI is not standard,any brain cells would tell you its not,listen to it and the VTS has better low 2 mid range power were as a VTI are dead before the VTEC and thats a fact,1.6 VTI's are nippy not fast, the type R is a fast car!

  • Iv raced many saxo's in my civic 1.4I, my civic has catback exhaust system and also a custom made induction kit, iv blown saxo's apart, for this saxo to beat the VTI clearly shows its not standard. Civics Rule, they dont break like the french, Nice Race by da way lol

  • 89 BHP STD plus cat back 115 Max plus induction 120 maximum HP you will have... Standard VTR you will beat, VTS put out 120 Std so you aint catching it. A vtr 99 onwards is 99bhp std with the same exhaust and induction kit as most have you are in the same boat.

    Another thing this Saxo Cup isn´t standard, but modified.If was standard would be be beaten even more easily.
