really, standing under a porch to film a thunderstorm is not very smart because the lightning could conceivable get you, though that never stops me from doing it :) The real best solution is to get in your car and roll the windows down in the direction opposite that the rain is coming from.

@ehfeuqhhrhouh - this is without a doubt real. Click through 40-43seconds - pause/play/pause. No one in CG is that good (yet). There are several frames that could not have been faked. The way it unfolds (frame by frame) is to complicated for CG, there isn't anyone who would have thought it through in such detail. The sound capture alone is brilliant, well done wender! (another reason why you can tell/hear that it wasn't faked!).

@wender474 you really shouldn't be on your porch in all honesty, (though I do it too so who am I to complain, and it does not make you "retarded as that other person rudely stated"). Though it is unlikely, lightning can reach under someone's porch and strike them. I think that's just something to keep in mind, and if you simply must film, get in a car and roll the windows down. Since cars direct the charge around their outside metal frame, you should be totally safe doing that.

Awesome, I love lightening strikes. If you pause/play you can see the different arcs the lightening bolt makes. One actuall comes on your side of the bw, that could have been bad if it had reached you. But I video storms all the time and it is a chance you take. Excellent video, thanks for posting it.

Since you cant fake the thunder, and the sound and flash had same timing, the strike was real, howvever, the reaction of the person would lead you to think it is fake. The main bolt hit behind the wall there and there was a small spark that deflected to the car. There is a reflection in the passenger window, and spark near top driver side. Cant tell if its comming to or giong from the car. Any way great footage!!

And after my initial shock, I was excited and ran in to see if I got it on film. I didn't know if I had it until I rewatched it. @acvaticlifE More like "the lightning hit exactly where the person was filming." If you watch that video again, she was panning across the entire thing. When you've got such a small area that you're filming and lightning hits in that area, you've got a pretty good chance of catching on film. So I say this is a great video, and I thank the person who posted it for putting it up for others to see rather than making fun of her reaction and calling her a fraud.
