  • I feel that Sarah peaked in 1993-1994 with Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, and sold out in 1995 with "I Will Remember You". That song laid the generic, adult contemporary template for the next 15 years. But before that 1988-1994, was the REAL vital Sarah McLachlan.

There are alot of her fans that feel the same way you do. I believe FTE is her best work ever. But I loved Surfacing too. She has gone on a different tangent with Laws Of Illusion, it doesn't measure up to her early albums-kinda went the way of Lilith, too many irons in the fire.

Sarah should abandon Lilith and go back to her own music.

  • @gravelandgrain100-

  • intense, erotic, soulful, touching..and then some...I heart every one of her songs but this is one of my fav's

  • This album has a brilliant flow from beginning to end, with "Possession" and "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" acting as the perfect bookends.

  • i love this song- it came into my life when I really needed these words and the energy of this magickal woman. see my blogsite post about this cathwrynn.wordpress

  • This version of "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy" is my favorite, my god everything from Sarah's voice to the raging guitar is perfect. As if this song wasn't perfect to begin with. I actually feel electricity from head to toe when I listen to this song!

  • @ SVPERSTAR if you can arrange a better musical composition than "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" or write better Lyrics I highly recommend you change careers and get started... This piece of music is a masterpiece.

  • Nice lightning, voice and song, I woud like to she if she has group in the back playing the music

  • sensual, intriguing and so captivating.....

  • id like to see you play guitar like that.

  • Your kidding right? I play guitar and that solo was amazing! To each his own I guess...

  • I dunno, it is just that Fumbling, as a whole, had a lot of "found sound" aspects to it that were ditched on Surfacing (and onwards). And I just think she made the wrong career choice to head deeper into adult contemporary music instead of being a tad bit more experimental in her approach and arrangement.

  • She has been moving sideways since Fumbling, and I just think of what could have been had she decided to be a little more experimental. I'm not saying an all out Kid A career move, and I sure am not talking about pop-synth, but maybe more of a ... Bjork-lite sound, but not that extreme.

Alright people? :) Let's just enjoy this beautiful music.

  • Awesome video! Great performance!

  • Super Extra Cool SONG !!!

  • NOTHING and NO ONE is worth suicide. It's sad to hear a song from this incredible artist was chosen as soundtrack for a suicide vide. the very existance of extreme video sites makes me sick. If we as humans have an appetite for the horrible or grotesque sensational it doesn't mean we have to give in to it. this is what adulthood is about, knowing how not to give in to all "needs" and impulses as opposed to what a teenager or a child would do...

  • What are you thinking? I see life not sucide!!

  • Hmm... I guess I know absolutely nothing about this song being used as a background to a video about a girl committing suicide. Did you see the video yourself? People said that Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" was about someone who he saw drowning, etc. but it wasn't true. Regardless, that incident has nothing to do with this song. Please don't ruin this song / video discussing what some crazy person did. People do crazy stupid stuff all the time. Suicide is very very sad, I'm not denying that.

  • This is the greatest song ever written and performed. Ever.

  • The best song ever. Have the text painted on my living room wall! Serious.

    - hands down some of the most profound lyrics

  • These lyrics gave me the courage to get married after a series of reasons to fear love. Having them in your living room is an awesome reminder that life can turn out well. best wishes.

  • That is so cool that you did that - I'd so love to see a pic of your lyrics on the wall

if you'd like to share :)

  • sublime!

  • One true artist!

  • Wow!

  • I love how she just waves and saunters off leaving the band to finish the song...too cool...

  • why is she so..........

  • This is amazing inspirational just beautiful

  • are all the songs on mirror ball from before her Surfacing album?

  • All the songs from Mirrorball are from

her first four records - Touch, Solace, Fumbling and Surfacing. But yes this was

    the Surfacing tour.

  • This is so different from the studio version. It is utterly sensual and just a touch erotic. It just builds and becomes almost metal by the end.

    But Sarah!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love how she's entirely barefoot throughout the entire set -)

  • It's hard to believe that only 12,000 people have viewed this song. So many people are missing out on one of the best artists out there today. Rock on Sarah!

  • Sarah makes me proud to be a Canadian.

  • Wish I was a Canadian, too :)

  • This song is just epic. it just builds and builds and builds until it finally breaks...ecstacy indeed. Brilliant stuff.

  • I totally agree. I never get tired of it. I love the Mirrorball version. It's so sensuous, my God.

  • I have a Mirrorball DVD and I love it! Sarah is my favourite female artist and I respect she very much. She is amazing. I love she's voice and beautiful songs and this song is one of my favourities. Great video ;)

  • that's a very sensual song.. it gave me chills! this one and air-playground love..

  • I love Air - I think Moon Safari is the

pinnacle of chill out - that and this artist right here :)

  • She's a Pre-Raphaelite...

  • I think this song is about loving someone that you know isn't right for you

  • I think you'll find that Sarah sings about that in 'Do What You Have To Do' which is

exactly about that. But I can see where you're coming from.

  • ah, good observation. i love girls like that.

  • @fwegeg -

therefore the soundtrack to my life....:)

  • I wish I was Ashwin.

  • Duh,You, the guy who used to stalk Her who killed himself, and anyone else who isn't dead inside... and probably a few who otherwise are~!

  • Yeah, that sounds a bit stalkery. I just think her music is outstanding and she is very beutifull. No stalker her, just a fan.

  • I Love the ultrasmoothe adage with the slow hand motions in the way She dances... at the beginning anyway. She seems to trance out on Herself and the band and lose a bit of control... which is cool too!

  • i absolutely love it! the best song ever...

  • just came across this....its really quite good....i love unearthing great musicians..can anyone tell me any more of this bands good songs?

  • Every Sarah McLachlan-song is pure gold :) Just buy Mirrorball and Fumbling Towards Ecstacy, you'll like it!

  • Tis Sarah McLachlan you speak of - and the band is her band - Sarah rules! watch Mirrorball and die happy! lol

  • Oh yeah and the first and second guitar

solos are f**king brilliant - I have watched metal heads and guitarists jaws drop to the floor with these solos - and they thought they'd hate this sort of music! lol

  • Sarah has always had an absolutely top notch band. I watch the Afterglow live DVD all the time and nearly every one in that band has their own music career and they are all really great.

I've met Sean Ashby (playing the V here) and he's such a great guy. He's got his own CD out (as does Luke, from Afterglow live).

A lot of her band members have been with her for a long time, and a lot of them play together in other bands as well, so they stay close.

    I love it.

  • Her live band is very carefully picked. I suggest you watch the newest DVD (Afterglow Live). It features:

    Sean Ashby

    Brian Minato

    Katheryn Rose

    Luke Doucet

Who all have their own solo careers and are quite impressive in and of themselves.

But all of Sarah's live DVDs are great.

  • Former guitarist David Sinclair used to be KD Lang's axeman - he is truly awesome and

seriously underrated and Luke's band is Moist isnt it? They're a pretty great band!

  • I haven't followed David too much, but he's great in Sarah's stuff that I've seen. Luke was in a band called Veal in the late 90's for a while, he's doing solo stuff now and fronts a band with his wife called "The White Falcon" (Named after his Gretsch guitar) The album is called "Blood's too rich"

  • Oh Veal - thats right...i think it might

have been Sean Ashby's band - so you know

    these guys pretty well then?

  • I haven't got the chance to see Luke yet (next time he's in the states I will for sure) but I was really lucky and got to meet Sean after a concert and he's a really great guy. We had been talking online for a while and we still keep in touch. I don't think he was ever in a band called "Moist" though.

  • anyone know what this is about? i absolutely love it!

  • Sarah's said it herself that her music is

mainly up to your interpretation. I think

its about not giving up on love, about picking yourself up when you fail, about

not being afraid to try...thats what I get out of it anyway...

  • she`s one of the greatest musicians! I love her music...

  • mos def a song to make love to. its so just beautiful and deep. very sensual................love it

  • that one blew my socks off!

  • One of the best live performances by ANY

artist EVER. Simply awesome! How good is

    the starlight backdrop too? wow!

  • No kidding. She's rocking it, and it doesn't sound like the typical live band. And her voice...makes everyone sound like chain-smoking alcoholics(They probably are...).

  • i believe this song is about passion and love

  • mirroball! the soundtrack of my life! and this song is my ultimate fave.
