Apparently the song was dedicated to singer/songwriter Mark Heard, who died of a heart attack in 1992 at the age of 41. He was a personal friend of Randy Stonehill, Phil Keaggy, Larry Norman and Bruce Cockburn, as well as other musicians in bands as diverse as REM and Daniel Amos. Great song. I also like Emmylou Harris' version from Wrecking Ball.

I just went to a Church Camp, and the director who's like 20, told us about how his dad suddenly died and he was mad at god. And then he sang this song. and forgave god and everything.

This song was written by Julie Miller for the late Mark Heard, who, in my opinion, was the greatest Christian songwriter of all time. This rendition is good but I prefer Julie & Buddy Miller's version.
