This is my favorite video on Youtube! Your fine rendition of this beautiful tune compelled me to buy Mr. Munde's book and cd to try and learn it. This is a daunting task for me. Thank you for sharing your talent, and giving such a clear visualization of the fingering involved. Happy picking! WHB
What kind of neck is that? I have never seen a 5 string with flowers on the neck like that. I once saw a tenor Bella Voce with an inlay like that, but that's it. Also, that's a great sounding banjo, and you're a heck of a picker. I had never heard this tune before and actually accidentally stumbled upon it. It's great!
@romwidoly Thanks for the compliment. That is a Bella Voce inlay on the neck. This is a custom built banjo I had made. I love it, best sounding banjo (to my ears) I have ever had.
You sure are one fantastic picker. AND your banjo has a fabulous sound. I really enjoyed watching. You're in my subscriptions and thumbs up to you. Thanks so much for posting.
FANTASTIC SOUND coming from that archtop. Great pickin' too, you nailed it!
By the way, just to give credit where credit is due, this tune was written by Don Reno, one of the most innovative and unsung bluegrass guys of all time. Other Reno compositions include: Dixie Breakdown, Follow the Leader, and (with Arthur Smith) Deulin' Banjo.
@JimmyDeLocke Can you tell me what year Don Reno wrote this, & was he writing it for banjo? My channel is an archive of a century of worldwide music with 550 playlists so far. There are 111 lists for every year since 1900. Added this to my Country Bluegrass list & 2008 list. I'd love to shift this superb performance back to the composition year!
Alan - you're AMAZING ! ! ! ! ! ! ! My channel's main purpose is to showcase talent like yours ! ! !
Well, I did build my own intonated bridge out of maple and ebony roughly 5/8", I really don't think that had much effect on tone though, moon bridge was just as good of a sound. I think most of the sound really comes from that old TB3 tone ring being gold plated, and the fact it has a Tony Pass lost forest birch rim. Thanks for the comment.
wow,, that was great,, munde is the most unique banjo player around, is that a #5 or a granada your playing,, do you play uncle clooney.. my favorite munde tune,,
I do love Munde's style, never learned Uncle Clooney. The banjo is a custom built, Tony Pass lost forest rim, tone ring came from a 1934 Gibson TB-3 archtop I got off ebay, I had the chrome stripped off and had it gold plated. I had always played a flat top, but always wanted an archtop, I love it!
Bravo--Very beautifully done and a credit to Munde.
