Kinghardyon has the right idea. The best ones are the ones you haven't heard yet. Page didn't cut it (sorry, kids), Clapton is good but often boring, SRV really couldn't cut it when you put him next to someone like Beck (Jeff Beck, that is), Vai is sensational, but waaaaayyyyy over the top. Satriani has the idea but the sounds and the rhythm sections are cliche. Slash has the idea... but instead of boozing all those years he should have been practicing. Hendrix? Great records, not great onstage.
Srv is by far one of the few guitarist that master a technique playing throughout properly the history of guitar playing. That man set a new standard....could not cut it?
@Secondlifecreator - I respect your perspective. We all have reasons for our opinions. When Beck emerged in '65 there was no-one like him (still isn't - just ask Clapton, Page, Satriani, Vai, McLaughlin, Gibbons... ). Ditto Hendrix. Wow! That wasn't the case (for me and many) w/SRV. He could play, sure, but we'd already heard Hendrix, Albert King, and Peter Green, so SRV was nothing new. True, Peter Green wasn't unique, but he was 'new' when I was 14... So timing has much to do with opinion.
@panhead58ful who is buddy guy..you mean?if it wasnt for him, blues wouldnt be what it is today.he is the SRV of the black blues player from back in the day.
these represent the very best of the guitar world, as did Jimmi Hendrix, and many others that we probably don't know. The great thing about the instrument, is that the knowledge is culmalative - in other words, it piles up. Eventually, you have a guy who puts them all together....in every generation. And they are called "the great ones".
WHO THE HELL IS JASON BECKER MUST HAVE BEEN AFTER MY HIPPIE DAYS I AGREE THE SRV IS ONE OF THE BEST THAT EVER PLAYED IF U DON`T BELIEVE IT LOOK ON YOUTUBE FOR CROSSROADS THE MOVIE AND FIND THE DUEL BETWEEN STEVE VAI AND STEVIE RAY IT WILL BLOW U AWAY THE KARATE KID PLAYS A GUITAR PLAYER THATS REALLY STEVIE RAY AND THERES GOOD TUNES BY RY COODER. AND FOR U OUT THERE THAT NEVER HEARD OF BUDDY GUT I SUGGEST U LOOK HIM UP HE PUT`S MOST TO SHAME
There is no such thing as the best guitar player in the world, There's only YOUR best guitar player, in my opinion Paul Gilbert is the best. but Jason Becker really was amazing, such a tragedy to happen to a guitar player.
@9jimi9 Totally agree. Hendrix Clapton are my top two, but there are many other greats. Suppose most of it is just what genre you like the most/think takes most skill to play. Nobody experimented like Hendrix, nobody had emotion in blues/blues rock of Clapton
please remember that the best is what you think makes the best guitarist. versatality, originality, and melody are the 3 most important to me so i have shawn lane buckethead and eric johnson at the top. buckethead has melody too, don't judge him by his random shred videos. look up "buckethead's emotional songs" on youtube.
jason is the best, there is no discussion about that. his music has so many feelings and emotions in it that you can't imagine that. to bad that he can't play the guitar any more. who knows what he could do..
I don't agree with your choice of title... What about all the unknown guys that are/were exceptional but never got aired? What about session musicians? Orchestral performers? What about guitarists who play in a genre that you don't like, do we discount their ability just because we were brought up listening to different styles? "My tribute to my three favorite guitarists" should be the title. And they're not mine...
quigglesquaggs, that is one of the most beautiful things that i have ever read on youtube!! so true!! you could not be more right! all my respect to what you've said!
i have seen most of the top guitarists, from hendrix clapton ,srv,page.slash.betts carlos etc..only 3 gave me awow factor..duanne allman.hendrix and bb king..its about passion.i watched ac dc..it was quite good but i forgot about the gig 3 days later..ask any who comes to mind as the best ever..it comes.out in apoll as mr jh
my apologys to jason beckers family and fans and most importantly hih i was not aware of his career i just read his bio and watched his videos i now put him in a class with randy rhodes because its obvious he played for the love of music not to be a rockstar
really guys someone say stevie ray because he was a legend and my idol. i love that guy. and really jimmy hendrix? Stevie Ray played his songs and it ruined jimmy. i honestly dont see why everyone is in love with jimmy hendrix. really. i dont think he was that good.
@44punkrock44 dude that song it's so comercial and soulless why would a punk rocker (like it says in your nick) like that song and play it if punk is agains mainstream?
@44punkrock44 dude that song it's so comercial and soulless why would a punk rocker (like it says in your nick) like that song and play it if punk is againts mainstream?
@44punkrock44 ha ha!! well there's one less person to consider best of all time. "I'm yours" just aint gonna cut it but, keep plunkin' away at that ol' guitar!
jackasses music is no comp. its about what you make of it and how you use your surroundings to make some kick ass shit
for example rush-the trees the drummer used a stagelight thing for a noise like a horse galloping (to me anyway)but basically its not for money or a comp.
Jason Becker by far is at least 20x better then Hendrix everyone thinks hes the god at the guitar he is not. It is stupid when people say he is there are so many people better then him. Yea he was good but not GoG
hendrix is a legend, sure. along with hundreds of other incredible guitarists. and he is absolutely in no way the only one who could make a guitar sing. that is the most misplaced statement i have ever heard about a guitarist.
Guys you really all need to stop hating on guitarists and stop comparing. Jimi Hendrix once said "A guitarist isnt measured by his skill or wat he can do with a guitar...he is measured by how far he has come in life with his or her guitar."
So please guys all these great guitarists didnt come to earth and then die as friends just so they could all be pitted against each other to see whos better Music isnt about competition to see whos better it about the music and wat you can give to the world
man youve goy to feel for jason, i mean one of the best guitarists EVER and he gets lou gherigs disease, thats a pole up the ass. but good choices, good video
hahaha kventonp..nobody comes even close to hendrix, hendrix is simply god of the guitar, his distortion technique and flashyness is totally un matchable
look nobody ever surpassed hendrix...most guitarist since him are roadies or guitar techs and Im sorry, certainly these reffered and others can play well but hendrix pretty much invented every genre of rock that came about since 66 and the fact of the matter is, all the guitarist say hendrix is unmatchable, nobody can compare to him,he is the god while others may have reached the status of rock dukes or earls...
dude you are fucking spot on with the description of this video. in my opinion srv surpassed his mentor hendrix, and i think his style is definitely better. Although his greatest influence was albert king who is obviously a god, he may even be considered a more rounded and influential musician than him. yikes. all i know, is that SRV is my number one. taught me how to play guitar, and i know many other people as well.
hey yall ya know what a hole in the ground is now reach behind you like your gona get your wallet butt use both hands ,thats it now you know the difference . music is an art form its a matter of interpretation of what each of us like .there's any amount of good ones and they seem to get better after they have passed on , Rory , Randy ,Jerry,Jimi ,Tommy,Terry,my old friend Matt Who ona good nite was as good or better than most thank God for recording so they can live on. thats only a few ,
putting up vids like this is only gonna cause arguments in the ol guitar community, were all strongly opinionated so were never gonna agree, plus its not a race so theres no winner. im sure theres a million comments stating this same fact among the arguments but oh well, its youtube, bring it on! John Petrucci SUX!!!
the first half of your comment i agree with. But please don't post stupid sections like "John Petrucci sucks" He has his own fan base just as other guitarists have. And when he dies, "which will be a sad day" he will be known as the best Prog guitarist of all time. I am sure of it. For many reasons.
you agree with me but still say john petrucci will be known as the BEST prog guitarist ever?? its not a competition, he cant be the best, he cant win at playing guitar, so dont you go saying silly things like that! ps, have you heard of steve howe? hes my favourite prog guitaist!!
sounded like shit ???/ j ajjaajaj , now i understand man, sorry , but i thought that you know something about music, i can t discuss with youm get some education in music body, see ya
All three of these are great guitarists, but I personally like Randy Rhoads the best. Even though he was the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, a metal band in the 80's, his whole background was classical music, and he was one of the most creative guitarists in the world R.I.P Randy Rhoads
Randy is good very good, but dude PLEASE , you can t compared him, with this beast of JASON BECKER ARE YOU CRAZY, ??? JUST LISTEN , CONCERTO, OPUS POCUS, JEWEL, BLUES, JUST TO FEW SOME, THIS ARE MASTERPIECE, ...Randy in his life played something like that... Thank you
Here i go again, just listen the firs song , that i wrote, and now, listen the songs from this albums, GO OFF AND SPEED METAL SHIMPHONY, just with speed metal shimphony,, u going to know, whos Marty Friedman and Jason Becker, dude...
ok, first of all, SPEAK FUCKING ENGLISH, speak in sentances so i can understand half the things u say, and second, i listened to the first song, and all it was was fast scales, and it sounded like shit. its not about speed dude. Randy owns him......again
Sorry to tell all of you guys who think Hendrix is not better than these guitarist but, THEY ALL WERE INSPIRED BY HENDRIX!.... Almost ALL of the great guiatrist were Hendrix impersonators!!!
@LifeByTheDrop srv was great but he didnt bridge the gap between rock and blues because i dont ever recall him ever creating a rock track, only renditions. he's definitely in my top 5 though with becker
@LifeByTheDrop i believe that a pioneer such as Hendrix should not be posted as "one of the best"... he was incredible but in the history context Becker and Lane dance circles around jimi...
@lulumnba just shut the fuck up...so what if they were inspired by hendrix? hendrix couldn't play in a billion light years jason becker's song altitudes, serrana or images, or SRV's scuttle buttin' or testify...
@lulumnba WELL YOU SAID IT HAS INSPIRED YOUR INFLUENCES BUT WAS HENDRIX HENDRIX IS GOOD BUT CAN NOT compare it with a god named JASON BECKER BECKER compositions SON OF A GENIUS AND IS SOMETHING THAT COULD NEVER MAKE NO HENDRIX Insult A BECKER TO COMPARE WITH SOMEONE WHO WAS ONLY BUT NOT INFLUENCE OF MANY OF JASON IDIOT BEKCER
@lulumnba Couldn't agree with you more. Well said.....Jimi was it. I thank God for SRV....I was privilaged to see the man 9 times live. I was too young for Jimi. Miss them both............
@lulumnba what the shit are you talking about. you won´t believe me but also jimi hendrix himself was inspired by guitarists like bb-king and you won´t tell me bb-king is better than hendrix. if i understand you right just the ones who have no idols can get better than jimi.
@lulumnba Sure you right. Saw him three times and he was a smokin' person and guitarist. Still pisses me of when I think of that damn bitch you didn't call the hospital. What comes around....
Dude, what about hendrix? SRV was great don;t get me wrong, but Hendrix had a hell of a lot of variety, and over a lot of different styles, even SRV said "Hendrix was the innovator, I'm just the imitator" in at least one interview i ahve read. Still, it;s all opinion in the end i guess, Peace.
Really? So John Mclaughlin is not as good as EVH, Page (who he gave lessons to), Santana (listen to them duetting, JM is in another league), Eric Clapton (can't even read JMs music), Knophler (just ask him). This list is a joke.
Jimmy Page, a true guitar god, like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana (and etc. like Eddie Van Halen)... Guitar gods are the most influential, they might not be the fastest, or most skilled, but they sure do rock, and they sure do influence the most people to play guitar! That's a true guitarist, a guitarist that wants to make the other person play guitar and understands the guitar, now that's a guitar god...
k the best guitar players in the woreled are ace frehely keith ritcherds joe perry jimmy page my dad allen collins geary rossington tommy bolin and ya johnny whinter and if u dont agrre yor fuckt
That sounds fairly accurate just I think Yngwie Malmsteen should be in there somewhere. PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE THE LORD. PRAISE THE LORD.
Out of these 3 guys you mentioned in this videos only SRV fits to a title guitar god, legend and perfectionist. The other 2 are great and exciting for sure, but not even close as SRV who was the best and most talented electric guitar player that has ever lived after Jimi Hendrix of course, by far.
SRV was amazing, but allen collins is great and jason becker was very young when he did all his recording. none of the Guitar Gods we hold dear could play nearly that well at that age. His ALS is a really big blow to the guitar community, even if it doesn't notice.
Hmm.... Jason Becker and Allen Collins are certainly great, but SRV is the most influential guitar player of all the 25 years and he is the only guitar player along with EVH to bring the biggest guitar revolution since Jimi Hendrix and he bridged the gap between blues and rock and roll like nobody since the 1960's. Not to mention that he is the 2nd guitar player in history to win 3 awards in one year as the best guitar player of the year and many other things... SRV is in top 5 best of all time.
jimi hendrix is a case of people letting personality come before skill. not that amazing a guitarist, but loved anyway and often overpraised for the wrong reasons
I am glad to see you include Allen Collins in this as I believe he is greatly underrated & unrecognized as one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
I'm not an expert on rock, metal, or guitar playing for that matter, but any fool can see that Jimmi changed the way the electric guitar was played, when u listen to Stevie (rip) nd most of these cats today, they r basically doing what Jimmi started, whether they play faster or more technical, he fathered all these cats.
Jason Becker is absolutely de greatest guitarist ever

And when he dies, "which will be a sad day" he will be known as the best Prog guitarist of all time. I am sure of it. For many reasons.
dan2212089 2 years ago
you agree with me but still say john petrucci will be known as the BEST prog guitarist ever?? its not a competition, he cant be the best, he cant win at playing guitar, so dont you go saying silly things like that! ps, have you heard of steve howe? hes my favourite prog guitaist!!

All three of these are great guitarists, but I personally like Randy Rhoads the best. Even though he was the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, a metal band in the 80's, his whole background was classical music, and he was one of the most creative guitarists in the world R.I.P Randy Rhoads
blmh1959 2 years ago
Randy is good very good, but dude PLEASE , you can t compared him, with this beast of JASON BECKER ARE YOU CRAZY, ??? JUST LISTEN , CONCERTO, OPUS POCUS, JEWEL, BLUES, JUST TO FEW SOME, THIS ARE MASTERPIECE, ...Randy in his life played something like that... Thank you
CARVCAMUZ 2 years ago
ur retarded if you think he is better than randy dude. randy's more creative and will PWN him at guitar any day
blmh1959 2 years ago
Here i go again, just listen the firs song , that i wrote, and now, listen the songs from this albums, GO OFF AND SPEED METAL SHIMPHONY, just with speed metal shimphony,, u going to know, whos Marty Friedman and Jason Becker, dude...
CARVCAMUZ 2 years ago
ok, first of all, SPEAK FUCKING ENGLISH, speak in sentances so i can understand half the things u say, and second, i listened to the first song, and all it was was fast scales, and it sounded like shit. its not about speed dude. Randy owns him......again

Sorry to tell all of you guys who think Hendrix is not better than these guitarist but, THEY ALL WERE INSPIRED BY HENDRIX!.... Almost ALL of the great guiatrist were Hendrix impersonators!!!

so?
LifeByTheDrop 2 years ago
@LifeByTheDrop srv was great but he didnt bridge the gap between rock and blues because i dont ever recall him ever creating a rock track, only renditions. he's definitely in my top 5 though with becker
turnbacktime 1 year ago
@LifeByTheDrop so hendrix would kick all of their ass's at a showdown gig, if he wasnt half stoned when performing he would have been much better
Camboza11 1 year ago
@Camboza11 becker is in a wheelchair and he could still have nailed jimi
LifeByTheDrop 1 year ago
@LifeByTheDrop i believe that a pioneer such as Hendrix should not be posted as "one of the best"... he was incredible but in the history context Becker and Lane dance circles around jimi...

@lulumnba ont george harrison, hendrix w inspired by him..
robbieC971 1 year ago
@lulumnba just shut the fuck up...so what if they were inspired by hendrix? hendrix couldn't play in a billion light years jason becker's song altitudes, serrana or images, or SRV's scuttle buttin' or testify...
jimmyleppard6 1 year ago
@lulumnba WELL YOU SAID IT HAS INSPIRED YOUR INFLUENCES BUT WAS HENDRIX HENDRIX IS GOOD BUT CAN NOT compare it with a god named JASON BECKER BECKER compositions SON OF A GENIUS AND IS SOMETHING THAT COULD NEVER MAKE NO HENDRIX Insult A BECKER TO COMPARE WITH SOMEONE WHO WAS ONLY BUT NOT INFLUENCE OF MANY OF JASON IDIOT BEKCER
isengarddeath1234 1 year ago
@lulumnba Couldn't agree with you more. Well said.....Jimi was it. I thank God for SRV....I was privilaged to see the man 9 times live. I was too young for Jimi. Miss them both............
bnilo 1 year ago
@lulumnba what the shit are you talking about. you won´t believe me but also jimi hendrix himself was inspired by guitarists like bb-king and you won´t tell me bb-king is better than hendrix. if i understand you right just the ones who have no idols can get better than jimi.
ThankGodForTheMusic 1 year ago
@lulumnba Sure you right. Saw him three times and he was a smokin' person and guitarist. Still pisses me of when I think of that damn bitch you didn't call the hospital. What comes around....
bteiv676 1 year ago

Out of these 3 guys you mentioned in this videos only SRV fits to a title guitar god, legend and perfectionist. The other 2 are great and exciting for sure, but not even close as SRV who was the best and most talented electric guitar player that has ever lived after Jimi Hendrix of course, by far.
grga888 3 years ago
allen collins is as true a guitar god as anyone. no one goes to random rap, pop, polka, country, or punk shows and yells "texas flood!"
PooPoo2U 3 years ago 2
Sorry, but Allen was good and only that, where Stevie was a god, master and perfectionist.
Big difference.
grga888 3 years ago
sorry ... but SRV is really overrated, I LOVE his work, but he wasn't that revolutionary in point for you to compare him with Jimi
WRannet 2 years ago
im going to pretend i didnt just hear that
terabyte451 2 years ago
SRV was amazing, but allen collins is great and jason becker was very young when he did all his recording. none of the Guitar Gods we hold dear could play nearly that well at that age. His ALS is a really big blow to the guitar community, even if it doesn't notice.
vantrifan 2 years ago
SRV is in top 5 best of all time.
grga888 2 years ago
What I mean to say is that none of those guys can even hold a candle to SRV.
SRV is a guitar god and one of a kind, where those others are just very good guitar players.
grga888 2 years ago

oh wow, wheres the jimi hendrix in this? c,mon thats a guitar GOD right there
flippah3 3 years ago
jimi hendrix is a case of people letting personality come before skill. not that amazing a guitarist, but loved anyway and often overpraised for the wrong reasons
PooPoo2U 3 years ago
There is no "Best Guitarist" or "Perfect Guitarist"... it's impossible.
But Jason Becker was close to it...

I am glad to see you include Allen Collins in this as I believe he is greatly underrated & unrecognized as one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
speedbuggy 3 years ago
I'm not an expert on rock, metal, or guitar playing for that matter, but any fool can see that Jimmi changed the way the electric guitar was played, when u listen to Stevie (rip) nd most of these cats today, they r basically doing what Jimmi started, whether they play faster or more technical, he fathered all these cats.
shonha1 3 years ago
The guitar was changed by a man named Sonny Sharrock before Hendrix. From Hendrix on, they were just playing what Sonny was ostracized for playing.
