  • what's the whistling @ 0:30-0:32

  • They could've kept some of their 1990-91 TMCs and few of 1986-87 GMC RTSes on the streets of Brooklyn, Queens and Matthannan for NYCMTA for at least 10 more freakin' years, they're the best!!

  • According to The Bergen Network, TMC RTSs are ordered by the NYCTA between 1987 and 1994 and they had Detroit Diesel Series 50 engines.

  • 1987s had Series 92 engines and 1990-1993s had Series 92s also but were repowered to Series 50 EGRs

  • Since these RTS's came out about 3 years before the Series 50 engines even existed, they still have that slight "moan" when they decelerate, just like the ones with either the 6v92's or 8v92's. Aahh, the good old days!!!

  • Come to Pittsburgh and ride the MMVTA's interurbans. They run CNG-powered TMC's and still have the old roll signs.

  • Always loved that little V-730/V731 "Yawn" sound, from 0:31 to 0:33, as acceleration begins and proceeds to the top of first gear;) Now thats an old-skool sound! Lovely.

  • HOLY COW!!! this is one fantasic recoding of the GMC-06V92TA RTC Ride coach and is the classsic SCREAM of the legendry 6V92TA going gear fur sure but i can tell what tansmission is sadly. It sound like a possible B-300-r by Allisons that is not as orginal as the Voir gearchain DIWA D863. A+10STar

  • I like the 6v92 Series Better.

  • BTW, I remember you asking me the same question a while back but now I'll put it to you: which do you prefer in TMC's or RTS's in general - S50's or S92TA's?

  • I know you like the S50 more...but I like my 92 better lol

  • lol everyone like the series 92 more. I'm betting that the S50 will never be reach any status of engines of great historical significance and popularity, like the 6V-92 did and has.

Say Detroit, people think 92; they will not be thinking Detroit 50 in 15-20 years;( If you mention S50 in the future, they'll be like "Detroit what? lol"

  • Look at that gleaming shine as it's preparing to take off. Sounds healthy.

I don't get it; are '90 TMC's THAT expensive to maintain that the cost/benefit of buying Orion VII's and scrapping TMC's is the econonical choice? Just doesn't add up.

  • MTA is run by complete morons...they were selling SCRAPPED 1990 TMCs

  • That was what I was gonna write but, in perspective, they may not be the morons we think.

I think they have an agenda: a rotten agenda!

I believe that the MTA administation is thinking more about $'s and vanity than much else. MTA'd like to be seen as especially progressive and ultramodern (eg YAY! eco-friendly new HEV's!), and prolly wants old buses off the streets. Hell, I remember the Fishbowls in good working order that disappeared in 1992! This is sad. They'll (MTA) do it again and again.

  • and to your observation - their selling off 1990 TMC's is typical. MTA honchos don't care about buses or bus history or vintage.

  • Not expensive. MTAs to lazy and cheap to rebuild them.

PS- this is the end of the line not only the 1990 TMCs, but also the 93-94 TMCs and 1993 Orion Vs

    its so sad:-(

  • @deandremouse I know, MTA lazy butts should've learn a lesson from Toronto TTC because Toronto kept rebuilding their GM Fishbowls and they still got about over 50 left of them as of 2011.
