  • do you think they were in fear of being stripped of there gold and thats why they were removed and baried for safety

  • true value 20 million. brownhills it is then. shame fell out wiv farmer yep do live by it he he

  • Well done , your keeping these people memories alive, I applaud you.

  • All credit to this guy , I dont undertstand the negativity between archaeologists and detectorists .Many many of this countrys treasures were discovered by detectorists and fill our museums with fantastic finds left to the time team lot nothing would be found after all how much land can you uncover with a small builders trowel . I was led to believe that Archaeologists were'nt interested in the first six inches anyway ,we on the other hand are .

  • great find whats its value and who will end up with it after the finders efforts ?

i hope the finder is well rewarded so that other finds will be brought forward so a correct record can be made and correct knowledge can be gained.

to many ancient artifacts end up on the black market bought collected and hidden away distorting history in some cases.

  • Great job on the finds! I am a fellow metal detectorist myself. I too applaud you for your efforts. Haters get of his back and archealogist's let's build that bridge to work together in the future. I hope this stuff goes on tour throughout the world for everyone to see. You should be proud and thanks for supporting the hobby

  • Get some of that loot. Pillage that land.

  • Kudos to this fellow for doing the right thing. I don't think it is at all appropriate to judge him. I hope he can reap the rewards of his efforts for many years to come...all awe inspiring.

  • I hope that the guy who invested his time and his equipment in finding these artifacts was well compensated. I know that things in the UK are not the same as they are in Texas.

  • from a 49 yr old, thats pretty lame

  • No, you haven't.

  • STUNNING, but what kills me is that the gentleman apparently did not recognize what he was doing, and instead of calling a university or museum, destroyed the archaeological context of the artifacts. Every time I think about it, it strikes me -- what a breathtaking find and, at the same time, such an irrevocable loss of precious information. Ah well. So it goes.

  • The "gentleman" is very experienced and reported his finds through the correct channels as all responsible detector users do.I f you must point fingers perhaps blame the farmer for mangling some of the hoard with his plough?Or perhaps it was better left in the soil and undiscovered?

The first port of call is the local finds officer, look up P.A.S.

    Posts like yours "kill" me......sigh.

  • Bullshit,

  • german???

  • wow 1500 pieces. I bet there are hourdes of people heading for staffordshire with metal detectors now

  • German Treasure !

  • @FinalWar1444 Why would it be German? They own nothing of ours...

  • @LukeMoroney well, Anglo Saxons came from northern Germany. Old english was an old german dialect. It was spoken in britain untill the normans conquered england. Brits allways reject this part of their history. In some parts of UK a very strong Germanophobia is still existing. If someone, who hate germans claim this as his, he is hypocritical. Anyway, i agree, that it belongs in a museum in england. The majority in england have no problems with germans and visa versa.
