  • This song always makes me think of someone dying, and then their loved ones trying to cope with the loss. The song literally feels like a freshly deceased man walking his way toward heaven through a big open field.

I hope Ian found solace. RIP, man.

    Love Will Tear Us Apart

  • he really couldn't sing..but did that really really good..

  • How good is this!!! I was blessed to be brought up when bands like this were playing. I feel sorry for the young ones today, can't see the rappers and hiphoppers being played in 30 years. Sit back and enjoy....Awesome!

  • @sidneybarret

    Sorry ?

Sounds like your the sorry one reminiscing for what has been and gone , unlike you Sid this music shall live on

    xx

  • His voice sounds so gentle

  • Gives me shivers and shakes................One of the greatest song

  • Classic track

  • one of the most beautiful and touching pieces of music the World will have.

We've been blessed, Ian has been with us for some time.

  • I finished watching control and this being the final song.... i lost it in tears of beauty and sadness, Not only should the great man that is Ian curtis bhe resting in peace in an afterlife that i hope exits but the wonderful creativity and mastery that such songs can bring.

  • who has written this song guys???

  • @Guitargirlmx

    Ian Curtis. Who else! ;)

  • @Guitargirlmx

Ian Curtis of course! Who else!!! ;)

  • Best band ever....... Great songs, great musicians and .... Ian Curtis is just..... no words :(

  • 6 dislikers...fuck off...with bad trip...you know what i mean...

  • i wish we did. for all the things we disagreed on and bad times there was, i still love my dad. and in one way its a very apt song to me, for all those reasons, and it does make me cry when i hear it. i miss him, because i was one of the few kids who had a cool dad, not an embarrassing one, and i miss talking to him. blob, :D was my dads best m8, he has passed away, and he loved ian curtis,.the song is brill in its own right, but its brill to me for all these reasons too :)

  • :D my dad used to like this one over the other released joydivision tunes, and he would sing it in a deep voice, sort of like, my dad wasn't very good at singin nursery rhymes,or lullabyes so he would sing tunes he did like, and this was one that he would sing with me :) and it is one that grew up with me, because even when i was a teen my dad would have this blastin in the car. i was born in 75 :) so right up til the 90s, til i left home, its just 'my dad' song.we dont talk now :(

  • ian curtis is a true icon i fell in love with joy divison at the age of 14 when my then boyfiend now husband played their single on a 45 love will tear us apart i play their music on my ipod now it is still powerful and moving the emotion behind the lyrics and that haunting voice .thankyou anton corbijn for introducing joy division to a new generation the video clip to atmosphere is a beautiful piece of art unlike the total uninspiring sexed up rubbish we are subjected to bring back the art.

  • neaer heaven i am i heven

  • i can just play this over and over again.... just beautiful

  • para todos los fanaticos de esta gran banda no permitire que este album se termine con 2 canciones... el 2 de enero colgare mi primer single no me fallen acabemos con la basura comercial trivial por M M pasen la voz

everybody waiting the album complete for just 2 song wonderfull

my band is same style because i am influence about this but

need speech if you liked this band then i am sure that you will my band 2 january my first song on youtube i called trivial by M M

  • About LadyGaga: a counter-culture pure mask; good enough for DUBAI and ABUD-ABI dance floors.

  • ....... near heaven......

  • every time I hear this song , it makes me miserable , becouse every time i hear that , it makes me feel that nobody like Ian and joy division would come any more in the world of music becouse of that crap what we have today. If you make music then there is no sense if you can sing very well. The most important thing is to sing with your heart. The singers today dont but their heart into the music they sing only for the money even if they dont say that.

  • People like you find it easy - What an epic, haunting line.

  • I always feel this song is saying far more than it's words can convey, it always makes me want to cry in a happy way that I don't understand

  • OMG! This song is so fucking amazing! Every single fellings are express in the melody!

  • Wait wait wait wait... what the hell is this? is this a music from 1980 for the song? or some youtube mashup made last year?

  • do melhor que ouvi em toda a vida.

    vox espectacular.

  • do melhor que ouvi em toda a vida.

  • Excellent song. I consider my self very lucky having one of the very few EP of this song on the one side... The other side has a very rare performance of "She's lost control"

  • Ian looks a little like Albert Camus, doesn't he?!

  • mancunia....dodging the rain and bullets

  • OMG the voice of the singer is is just live Legião Urbana singer, Renato Russo's voice. I LOVE HIM. SO I LOVE THIS GUY, WHOEVER HE IS.

  • When I first heard this song I cried. Cause I realized just how fucked up everything is and that it's so beatiful even though it's so fucked up the things we can truly call truth and meaning and connection and how the small things in life really do matter.

  • LET'S BE HONEST! THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER COMPOSED!!! May someone fuck God, Jesus, the pope or a conspicuous member of this extremist organization, as they took this genious away from us at the early age of 23...

  • class

  • Waaaaaaaaaalk in siiileeennnceeee!

    RIP Ian, absolute genious

  • Love you Ian....Always will...

  • its not had 50.000 hits its had 4 million hits and rightly so! there are many different videos.

  • Fortunate enough to have seen em many times, met Ian a few times although wilson was always right with him to "guide" him..factory tour played our local three times...great days..great vid by Anton

  • Joy Division: masters of synth pads.

  • This song randomly featured in my dream last night.

Every now and again it's just the perfect song to listen to.

  • the perfect song so intense

  • this is art.

  • Such a short life, such beauty

  • @TomthatiscalledTom so right

  • Just haunting, the most beautiful song

  • pure emotion !

  • Unbelievable to think this song has less than 50,000 views. And shit like Lady Gaga & Usher have millions. Unjust.

  • Its because Gaga is a slut and I can't imagine them watching this depressing music.

  • @TheMancunianBoy

don't agree, 50,000 to millions of views is the proof that this is real and no hype

  • @TheMancunianBoy thats because people who listen to this such music support the industry and buy a CD where as those who sumhow enjoy justin bieber O.O jus download they music!

  • @TheMancunianBoy i hope lady gaga dies n a big fire

  • @TheMancunianBoy

    You fucking well know that!

This is as close to perfect as you get!

  • @TheMancunianBoy lady gaga likes Doom and Minor Threat.

  • @ForgotFuckIt Does she like The Berzerker and Mayhem?

  • @mainmenu895 mayhem is her favorite band

  • @ForgotFuckIt Yeah? I doubt a pop singer's fav band is a black metal band.

  • @mainmenu895 have you SEEN her? shes andy warhol 2.0

  • @TheMancunianBoy Who is Usher? (seriously)

  • @TheMancunianBoy

Yes, People Really Are This Stupid!

    Sadly...

  • @TheMancunianBoy

the kids don't know what is good music!

  • @TheMancunianBoy for me it's better this way

  • make Joy Division #1 in the UK for 18-05-10, it will have been 30 years since Ian passed, push Love will tear us Apart to the top, there is a facebook group

  • Comment removed

  • this song reminds me of my dad, and his mate when i was little. am so glad my dad was into cool shit, and made it so i was introduced to loads of music lots of other little kids werent...i miss you dad. rip ian curtis. and you are remembered blob :) n :"(

  • @minimal1975 What a nice comment

  • @minimal1975 that was beautiful, thanks for sharing.

  • Every corner abandoned too soon,

    Set down with due care

  • I just read touching from a distance, and if you haven't read it yet I suggest you do. Ian was troubled and he was going through a crisis and that shows through his lyrics.

  • people like you find it easy ... just perfect :>

  • My fave part of the vid is 3.22 when the wave breaks in sync with the music. A true classic.

  • This song makes me really nostalgic.

    Rest In Peace, Ian.

  • Una delle canzoni più profonde e emozionanti di sempre.

    Ian vive.

  • dont walk away in silence :) 1 of my fav songs :))

    R.I.P Ian Curtis

by the way Beckyisageek did he take his life or he just passed away? i m really curious :p i ll appreciate if u reply to my post, coz i really love this amazing song very much!!!

  • He hung himself when he was 23.

  • he took his life

  • some of the most meaningful lyrics ever . . R.I.P Ian Curtis

  • *__________________________*

  • Ian and the band where some of the best of there time. They started of as normal people but then there one passion in the end got them somewhere.

Ian wrote his own songs and they made there own music in which years to follow many bands copyed.

Ian took his own life because he wanted to.

He and his band are very talented, and his band carried out there talents by going into New Order.

Ian will always be a key man in the music world like many other musicans.

  • JD have made beautiful lyrics and still now after his death people are listening to and finding out about the band which is leading them to other bands that are influenced by them.

And yes maybe it is depressing?

But that doesn't make us emos or people that want to kill thereselves.

His lyrics are beautful and mean something and make you think about things that you never used to think about before.

  • Nobody cares? They are not going to stop listening to the band and cry?

And yes it might be your opinion and that but post it somewhere people agree with you?

  • Why are you even watching this if 'Metal was top until this whiny shit took over'

    eh?

This band was different then all the 'metal' bands and they stood out not only because of Ian's different voice, also because of the lyrics and the instruments.

And just because you comment saying Joy Division are shit blah blah what are you going to get out of it?

  • Wow

  • Muito Bom Mesmo!

Ian Curtis é nosso mestre =D

  • That's funny, because you haven't died from it yet dicknose

  • I thought you would be a teenager.

  • go fuck yourself, you've no idea about music. "Metal will always will rule the world!!!!" very clever, man...

  • Oh Yeah, metal's not cheesy.

  • One of the best songs by Joy Division .... I love this band. God how I wish I could have seen them once on stage before Ian Curtis died.

  • Joy Division could have never existed in the United States. All four members of the band were on the dole during the making of their debut album, "Unknown Pleasures." This gave them time to complete the record. America has no dole. Instead we have a highly restrictive unemployment compensation system which leaves many unemployed people with no income whatsoever. See how well your band comes together when all of its members having no money coming in.

  • @houstonveer ian curtis was working at some point in a mind numbing employment office but his illness was not compatable with the rock and roll lifestyle his marriage wasnt either . there are many starving artist out there but its only the true artists the ones that get there work seen or heard no matter what the obsticle . their the ones we remember . it should be easy to get your stuff out there now it all comes down to talent and beleif just look at the crap out there now .

  • Such a great song. Spectacular.

  • Nirvana is a complete different band, the two have a complete different fanbase. I think however, that Joy Division has a higher level of composing, Nirvana is more simple. They both we're pioneers within their genre, But the influence of Joy Division on modern artist is stronger than nirvana's, because new wave/post punk revival is very populair these days. Joy Division doesn't have it's own 'smells like teen spirit', but I can hear their style daily in bands like editors, interpol, etc. etc.

  • @kutbaag yes but they had the same influence.. art director anton corbijn for their videos curt also felt trapped like ian

  • these guys ROCK HARD OUT LOUD AND DIDN'T GIVE A HOOT!!!!!!! and I thank them for doing so. CARRY ON IAN....where ever you are....DANNO

  • this is a very profound, beautiful song...it makes me sad.

  • i used to think he was crap but i like it now it grows on you

  • very good song

  • Poignant & scary especially when Stoned !!!!!!

  • Отличная песня.

  • this is to

nidexiaohouzi for his comment on the previous page.

  • Just one of the most epically beautiful songs

  • i like ian curtis and joy division but im hav heard more nirvana than joy division

but both are still great but in difrentts ways

  • nirvana will NEVER be in the same league as JOY DIVISION....you can be WHOEVER you want but DO THE MATH FIRST!!!!!!!! thats like comparing yugo and CHEVY!!!!! LEARN ...LEARN....LEARN...BEFORE you post. just because Cobain killed himself DOESN'T MEAN HE WAS AS TALENTED AS CURTIS. Look into the past for reference. with all due respect.....cobain can NEVER BE CURTIS....I don't care HOW MANY TIMES HE KILLS HIMSELF.

  • yeah nirvana was kind of degenerative, musically. it was about expression more than music. that it helped pave the way for emo...doesn't make em look as good either. joy division was a perfect mixture of minimalism and aggression. nirvana looks decadent in comparison, and kind of stupid....like every kid who doesn't really learn how to play his guitar, but appeals to the most compromising definition of art in order to not be called, more simply, a loser.

  • Far as I know Ian was not much of a musician. He was more of a poet. I think there is a similarity between the two men to certain extent. They were social misfits, loners, they both had emotional problems, they come from a working class family, they both left a babygirl behind etc. But of course their music and lyrics are completely different. I like both of them.

  • Walk in silence,

    Don't walk away, in silence.

    See the danger,

    Always danger,

    Endless talking,

    Life rebuilding,

    Don't walk away.

  • Walk in silence,

    Don't turn away, in silence.

    Your confusion,

    My Illusion,

Worn like a mask of self-hate,

    Confronts and then dies.

    Don't walk away.

  • People like you find it easy,

    Naked to see

    Walking on air.

    Hunting by the rivers,

    Through the streets,

    Every corner abandoned too soon,

    Set down with due care.

    Don't walk away in silence.

    Don't walk away.

  • I could pay someone to wank in your eye.

    If that's what you're into.

  • especially after eating sugar puffs

  • Why so many negative comments about Ian? The music just wouldnt sound right if, say, Freddie Mercury was singing.

  • Grandissimi!!!!!

  • ffs why do people comment on great front men being bad singers. its about attitude and presence. if you want a technical singer listen to opera.

  • Hi this is Ian Curtis, Ive just read your comment and yes Im responding from beyond the grave so thats your theory shot to shit. Peace brother, dying isnt that big a deal dont be afraid of it.

  • away and shite, cocknose

  • But dead people have written beautiful lyrics.

  • Not before they died though surely?

  • You'd be surprised ^^

'have written' was supposed to imply past tense =D

  • wow. who pissed in your cheerios? wouldn't this be the equivalent of you writing a letter to your dead grandmother or speaking at her funeral? she can't respond back, but you do it anyway. let people write what they want. who the fuck are you to say they can't?

  • jelous?

  • maybe curtis wasn,t your typical lead singer but he and the other band members made it work and joy division were a great band rotten couldn,t sing but th sex pistols were great

  • RIP

  • amazing. that simple

  • IAN CURTIS Was / Is the ESENCE of JOY DIVISION>

How can u say he wasn't a good singer?

  • Gracias Ian

  • maby curtis wasn't good singer but joy division have something in their music. its like trance

  • IAN CURTIS R.I.P

  • Thank you Ian.

  • Ian Curtis R.I.P

  • this is simply one of the best songs ever

  • It's like the Jawa's vs. the KKK!

    srsly though beautiful song

  • great great song. I keep wondering what would have happened to joy division and what kind of songs they would've created if curtis was still alive.

  • different from new order that's for sure....

joy division were an amazing band! Love this song loads!

    Ian Curtis RIP
