30 Rock came close to winning this one, Modern Family's only competition imo. The Office has declined for a while and Glee, well, doesn't really count as a comedy compared to its competitors. Modern Family, being a brand new show, attracted a lot of buzz and was riding on a lot of momentum. I think this year though, 30 Rock will made a comeback.
Modern Family was a clear winner because it truly taps the funny bone in all of us, among its competitors. 30 Rock was the other one that comes close. I don't know why Glee is here.

@0123kid I'm glad I'm not the only person who doesn't like 30 Rock. Frasier was awesome for 11 years. I'm not sure if any other show in history has achieved that. Sure Mash and Cheers lasted 11 years, but they didn't have the consistent awesomeness of Frasier.

Yeah, Glee is so awful that it's already beat out Modern Family for a golden globe and Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch both won in their own personal category. I love both Glee and Modern Family, but you don't have to bash Glee to bring up Modern Family. Glee has also won a Screen Actor's Guild award AND are currently nominated for the Grammy's. Modern Family is an awesome and a hilarious show, but it lacks the magic and inspiration that Glee has.
The emmy's are the tv's oscars. The only reason there is such a thing as the Golden Globes is because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association pick who they think the viewers are watching to win raitings and have a few snapshots with the stars,

PEEOPLE! As much as I love Modern Family, I also love Glee. The thing you have to understand is that in Modern Family, the key is WRITING! if there's not a good writing style, very comedic, it won't be a hit. Because there are dozen's of writers who write it on a family-based level, it won. In Glee's case, they have to make use of a good writing style combined with their music numbers within that 43 min period. Besides, they interchange episodes with only 3 writers, and the cast works very hard!
People who hate on Glee has a bias towards it and obviously hasn't the show. It's kind of like looking at a poster of a movie and saying it's your typical teen crap and it's a bad movie without even trying to understands what the whole point of the show. It's more than just singing and being in high school.
I, also don't understand the "Glee" hate. Perhaps some of you just don't like seeing talent at its best but its really a great show. The plot lines may be hard to follow & it may seem like the producers center the plot around the songs but that is because they have to. The producers/directors don't have free reign of every song made. They must ask permission.
This show is technically a musical, which is why they didn't win the Emmy for "Best Comedy." Its really a mix between comedy and drama.

I don't understand why people were predicting it to be between Glee and Modern Family. Truly, it was between Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, and Modern Family. Glee didn't have the submission tapes that Curb or Modern Family had. Glee is kinda going downhill for me, Modern Family is still hilarious, although I don't look forward to watching it as much as The Office. The Office is coming back from a less than exciting 6th season.
I have a feeling Glee will end up like Ugly Betty, all the goods were in season 1. It just has too much buzz that the writers are probably going to lay back and let the momentum push it with ratings.

To everyone who agrees another show should have won, the Emmys have a long history of never giving the award to who truly deserved it and earned it. Think about it, Lost went home empty handed when it had an INCREDIBLE final season. They voted for other shows because they didnt want it to seem like Lost only got awards because it is over. Oh well. Its not like anyone will remeber this in a month.

@tiger160297 I mean okay, Glee didn't have a lot of space to make laughs whereas Modern Family, a story about a dysfunctional family did. But I think the writers were very good in making due with what they had. Glee is extremely clever and witty whereas MF's actors are rather loud and brash.
@tiger160297 That is because they don't have permission to use every song created. Therefore they have a harder time of being able to create a plot that permitted songs can be added into. You lose the point of the show if you create a plot and then have no music to add to it. :)

Modern Family won because it is FUNNY!!! Glee just fucking high school drama that I can see at school. PEEOPLE! As much as I love Modern Family, I also love Glee. The thing you have to understand is that in Modern Family, the key is WRITING! if there's not a good writing style, very comedic, it won't be a hit. Because there are dozen's of writers who write it on a family-based level, it won. In Glee's case, they have to make use of a good writing style combined with their music numbers within that 43 min period. Besides, they interchange episodes with only 3 writers, and the cast works very hard!

People who hate on Glee has a bias towards it and obviously hasn't the show. It's kind of like looking at a poster of a movie and saying it's your typical teen crap and it's a bad movie without even trying to understands what the whole point of the show. It's more than just singing and being in high school.

I, also don't understand the "Glee" hate. Perhaps some of you just don't like seeing talent at its best but its really a great show. The plot lines may be hard to follow & it may seem like the producers center the plot around the songs but that is because they have to. The producers/directors don't have free reign of every song made. They must ask permission.
This show is technically a musical, which is why they didn't win the Emmy for "Best Comedy." Its really a mix between comedy and drama.

Glee is freakin hilarious and fresh! How can they win a Golden globe and not an Emmy?? Ridiculous! I seen a couple of Curb and that was a snoozefest... Office is pretty dead pan, 30 rock isn't funny anymore and modern family is such a done before concept.

Also Curb is hilarious, 30 Rock is still funny, The Office...is just worse I'll give you that, and Modern Family is way funnier than all other nominees which is proved by the 11 million viewers every night.

The office was pretty good in its first 5 seasons but season 6 was shameful. i think because greg daniels left as the showrunner and Paul liberstein and jenifer celetta took over.

@monleo1705 Golden Globe is so much more different than the Emmy's. The Hollywood Foreign Press who award the Golden Globes like to give it to more popular shows. Glee didn't really deserve it because their 6 episode submission wasn't on par as Modern Family. Hell, even The Office had better submissions. Glee had buzz but their submission were wrong.

I love 30 rock, glee, and modern family. Frankly, 30 rock has already won three emmy awards in this category. So I thought that 30 rock had less possibility of winning cause they've already won so many awards.
and I understand why Modern family won this emmy award. Glee is amazing but Modern Family is better in writing.

I don't understand why people were predicting it to be between Glee and Modern Family. Truly, it was between Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock, and Modern Family. Glee didn't have the submission tapes that Curb or Modern Family had. Glee is kinda going downhill for me, Modern Family is still hilarious, although I don't look forward to watching it as much as The Office. The Office is coming back from a less than exciting 6th season.

I really cant stand this show....its stupid comedy.
To everyone who agrees another show should have won, the Emmys have a long history of never giving the award to who truly deserved it and earned it. Think about it, Lost went home empty handed when it had an INCREDIBLE final season. They voted for other shows because they didnt want it to seem like Lost only got awards because it is over. Oh well. Its not like anyone will remeber this in a month.

Whoever thinks glee should have won doesn't realize that Glee doesn't really have a plotline. There's barely any humor in it besides Jane Lynch. Modern Family, no matter what episode, is written great and the entire cast just makes the show amazing. With Glee, you just have auto tuned voices minus Lea Michele. I mean, come on.

@chasingsafety8 As a fan of glee even i think it has gone downhill in terms of character development. The only problem is that they always have great storylines/routes to go down but they always take the shittiest option.
Kind of giving you a sideying about the autotune thing though, they sound fine live autotune or no autotune.

@kirbyazn Glee was good at first but eventually the writers started writing the stories around the songs and it made the show bad in the later half of the season. Modern Family was so much more funnier because Glee isn't really that funny.

@tiger160297 I mean okay, Glee didn't have a lot of space to make laughs whereas Modern Family, a story about a dysfunctional family did. But I think the writers were very good in making due with what they had. Glee is extremely clever and witty whereas MF's actors are rather loud and brash.

@tiger160297 That is because they don't have permission to use every song created. Therefore they have a harder time of being able to create a plot that permitted songs can be added into. You lose the point of the show if you create a plot and then have no music to add to it. :)

Not that these ceremonies are important but I love TV. Good shows oughta be winning. Nothing funnier than Curb although 30 Rock does come close! I'm also glad it wasn't Glee though. That's a relief !

Glee is overrated and will NOT have staying power. 3 to 4 seasons tops and it's done.
