the division between hiphop, techno, house might seem clear now after it has been greatly altered by new generation not connected to the original inventers. but back then the division was not clear.

in fact hiphop, house/disco and techno/electric funk, etc were overlapping with each other and even made by the same people. those genres only became stiff generally after 1990s after commercialization.

But still, Hip Hop was still a breakbeat and house was a disco beat. They played it at the same party, but none of these styles owe there absolute existence to a drum machine. It was only when this gear was being sold second hand for cheap that people started making their own beats.
