chemical plant zone was originally death egg zone act 1 and 2 but when they started cutting levels in sonic 2 they moved death egg zone act 1 and 2 to the second stage to even out the levels thats why it seems hard for a second stage

@snailsonic No wonder I found it hard to get past act 2 on my first try (it was my first sonic game BTW) another sudden spike in difficulty was the water based sections. Sonic 1 originaly had labyrith as the 2nd satge howevr many thought it would be too hard for the second stage so they made marble zone as a place where a player can take a break to master the moves... I could easily beat any of these stages now..

@BOXINGMAN127 Well, this is a fan-made hack. It was never confirmed if Chemical Plant's level layout was going to be Death Egg Zone's original layout, but it MAY have been planned to be longer, due to the fact there is some unused space in Death Egg and it has a strange 2nd act that can be found through hacking, though it's a repeat of Death Egg Zone act 1 and doesn't contain any of the bosses.

If chemical planet were taken out, and put at the end, it would be like sonic 1 where there is a green level first, followed by some type of ruins level, and then a spring level.

Some of the beta levels look good. I f they kept the hidden palace level it could have created an interesting link to sonic 3

This would be more impressive if they'd changed the level structure at all. Obviously the tile set should stay the same, since DEZ uses CPZ's tiles in the finished game, but the resulting level should not just be CPZ Acts 1 and 2 with the background changed. As it is, this version of DEZ is just a waste of the hacker's and the player's time. DEZ 2 is actually *easier* than its CPZ counterpart because the liquid isn't there.

Well, this IS just a fan made hack. The devloper tried to think what Sonic 2 in VERY EARLY stages looked like. Or what it would look like if all the beta ideas were kept in.

I say he right, either that or very close to right.

as some rumors are saying and I sort of agree with some of them, when I first played the game I thought it was wierd that you suddenly just went to the final boss without any stage, so it can be 2 reasons:

One checking if Chemical Zone would work or two:

it was the stage before final boss? XD Sega had prolly many things on their mind...

I say Sega once planed a longer Death Egg Zone, but it was dropped for time reasons.

Also, notice how the Death Egg Zone theme is REALLLLYYYY long for a stage like this. Think about it. As soon as you start the stage you go right and face the boss, after that....BAM! You can't hear it agian. Your theroy about Chemical Plant Zone being the final stage before the final boss might be right.
