Again if you train the right way with a Master, Instructor, or trainer. They should teach you to be prepared. Example: when I teach self-defense ask this question will you break anyone's arm if you had to most people say not if I don't have to. Then I say if you had to was the question. They all look at me like I'm crazy you have to know peoples limits so you can teach them to go beyond them.
Point in self defense u must train daily twice three times a week after you have built a solid rep
I'm from Houston have fought all my life using martial arts and none martial arts hey its tough but if you want to really learn fight and use what u learn at ever chance you get. U can even practice disarming guns in Houston. Yeah it's every day down here and I say that as a Instructor and trainer of police and I say that as a club security.
An as far as boxers they do puch like that but I can promise you in Houston he wont I repeat he or she will not swing once or that slow. The point is to train slow learn the tech did profect it so when you are swong at you will respond the moment they appear to strike. Meaning you may break a arm just because the appeared to be in motion
Im a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. An I have won and lost fights growing up and in Tae Kwon Do. I've won a lot more which I'm proud of but the point. Is its the fighter and you really dont know what the next fighter will do. An most guys arent MMA or very good at at whats they train in. Now boxer or different because the do bob and weave inb houston fighting is common. So you may come across a classed or seasoned fighter. If you know Tae Kwon Do or any martial arts here stand up is a must
Cant punch properly, not practical for street self defence, you would not punch like that in the street, that's the problem with traditional training, I just dont understand why a martial artist who has practised for years would think that these applications would work.
@TheG1NGAN1NJA I guess it's more like if your friend fuck with you you take his hand and pretend he hit you and then you fucking facekill him and spanks his ass with HIS ear.. :p
@TheG1NGAN1NJA Hmm? Are you expecting a random dude on the street to be some MMA champion? Or really any training at all? There gonna what humans are programmed to do, which is just throw a haymaker to the head. That's what this guys doing, just slowed down for demonstration purposes. Your not gonna run into a guy mugging you on the street whos gonna take a step back and throw some quick jabs and bobbing and weaving. He's just gonna take a swing
@ResidentBiscuit Won't just punch you, you've got headbutts to deal with, bottle, glass attacks, problem with this style of self defence teaching is that they don't teach you how to deal with the adrenaline and fear which will manifest from a violent confrontation. People underestimate the ferocity of a real situation which means they'll be in the shit when it kicks off, blocking and countering won't work, you have to be pre emtive especially if there's only an 18 inch gap.
@TheG1NGAN1NJA I see your point and I agree to an extent. In this situation though, they are just dealing with attacker who throws a punch. I'm sure they have other ways to react to weapons
This is both useless and impossible: as usually in TKD, the fighters stand too far away from each other for a punch to reach the target, so it's useless to defend it; and you can't just grab the puncher's hand and count that he'd have it relaxed in your hand just so that you could lock him...
@grozde actually you don't want him to relax at all. and this can be done with a jab if you are quick. if you are a slow MMA jock, then no, you probably couldn't do this. (by slow I mean your movement, not your mental ability.)
Please check the video at 0:30. Have you EVER seen ANYBODY who relaxes his hand like that after a punch?
Also, it DOESN"T MATTER how fast you are - if the other guy is not too - MUCH TOO - slow, you can't do it. All these locks are done after hitting him (or taking him off mental and/or physical balance) - otherwise you'd have to wrestle with his hand and count on him just hanging in there...
@grozde his hand is relaxed at 30 because he is standing there waiting for the black belt to explain the move. As you see in the beginning of the video, this move is performed when the opponent has a closed fist. And no, this lock is not done after hitting him, where do they hit the opponent in this vid? This is a defensive move.
Well, then explain to me, please, how do you bend a locked fist in a way to perform this move!
And that's my entire point: to make the lock, you need to "destruct" (p.e. hit him) or stun him so that he'd relax at least a little his fist (AND wouldn't retract immediatelly) - and then you can do it.
@grozde you can bend a locked fist. do it right now, make a first with your left hand, if you put a thumb right at the base of the first, and a finger on top, and press down with the finger, your wrist will bend. See :53, you can see there is a fist and can still bend it. That's a common way to get your wrist injured in baseball, from what I understand.
@grozde I disagree, at :52, in the instructor has grasped the hand and is holding it near his waist, you can see the hand clearly in a fist at that point.
Please check it out again: the thumb is opened and the pointing fingers is hanging a little bit! If you hit something like that - you'll injure your hand!
@grozde search for "Self-Defense: Outside Wrist Lock" on ehow, they show it the hand part in great detail, the video where people have black t-shirts with red designs on them...
@grozde " I'm just saying that the way shown here it wouldn't."<--- well that guy has a black belt and he's teaching traditional TKD, I don't have a black belt, but this is almost identical to techniques I learned, although I only did for 2 years. People on the net like to bash TKD because it is popular to teach these days...
@rainieram- because the rules r not allowing to.. beside that, taekwondo joint locks r not to lock but to break.. similar to judo and jiu jitsu, but they use their whole body to do joint locks... in Taekwondo, we use the weak point of the joint to destroy itself.. in judo and jiu jitsu, they lock the joint by using bars which is not really effective if you know how to escape.. but in taekwondo, we use the weakness to lock the weakness, at that point. the opponent can't use their muscle to fight.
@rainieram- if they do try to fight, they will tear their muscle which is not like the joint locks of judo and jiu jitsu.. the opponent still can fight the joint lock.. oh, i say is not all judo and jiu jitsu locks.. just some.. but taekwondo joint lock is very dangerous.... that's why it is not allowed in sparring.. maybe just in the real combat martial of taekwondo sparring.. but not really doing that hardly to your partner...
This comment has received too many negative votes show
poor students..they learn fake Korean style...
this technique is Hijigatame (肘固め)and Nikyo(二挙)of Aikido(合気道)

(locking it the other way is even easier, if you put a thumb inside the palm and bend it upward.)

Well, I know nothing about baseball, but I don't think it's relevant here anyway.
You CAN bend a wrist like this - if the striker relaxes it at least a bit - or if he's week.
By the way - 0:50-0:53 - the fist of the striker is relaxed AT ALL TIME!!! He's not even locking it when hitting! So yes, you CAN do it to him ;-)
PS: In my previous post, I meant "distract", not "destruct" :-)

At no point his fist is clenched! Not at all! You can see it by the way his fingers are.
But even if it was, EACH TIME the instructor is performing the lock, the guy has ALREADY relaxed his fist,
