Queen were always a very well balanced act. Freddie's opera/heavy metal theatrical excesses, Roger's basic hard rock punch, Brian's amazing sense of melody and extremely musical solos, and John's soulful bass lines and compositions made Queen the best rock band EVER. I love them to death!

Look, I love Queens first five albums. BUT,i've been looking at brian may and roger taylor videos for the last 30 minutes or so...and its QUITE obvious that freddie was the creative force behind queen! Queens popularity here in the states plummeted in the mid eighties while it sky- rocketed worldwide. I don't think americans could stomache the type of shlock- pop that queen became.Here in the states we file queen into one of two categories: "ABSURDLY BRILLIANT" or "BRILLIANTLY ABSURD"

i disagree.although their albums from '73-'82 we brilliant and incredibly underrated, their albums from '84-'91 were actually really really really good...after the 70's the record companys took over pretty much and made queen release all the poppy songs that weren't the best ones on the albums.
