I actually really dig VH during the Gary era (although my fav has always been classic Roth era VH). The album had some really sweet (albiet different from Ed's standard) guitar tones goin' on & the tour rocked. Cherome had a strong vocal & visual performance & Eddie's live tone was perhaps the best live guitar tone I had ever heard. I was so blown away by their live sound in 98' that I went out & bought the same gear he used for the show shortly after (Peavey evh wolfgang & Peavey 5150ii amp).
@5150RDH He really loves that "AW" out of the midrange these days. Paul Gilbert often talked about the "AW" in his DiMarzio videos about really midrangy humbuckers which Ed favors. I really think the tone on F.U.C.K was perhaps the best, but VHIII had some amazing sounds... love the drum sound too! The Peavey Wolfgang pickups go for crazy amounts of money on eBay... almost as much as the new EVH ones.
This was such a great show . Best VH setlist ever. To bad the album was no where near as good as the tour was.

Is this the last tour Eddie kept his shirt on for?

Gary should have been given another shot.

I was at this show, and it was my first major exposure to Van Halen. It turned my whole world upside down.

saw them in Cleveland for this tour, and it was great! Eddie was ON, and Gary was open to singing anything from the catalog; a team player!

I thought i was the only one here. For my point of view One of the benefits of Gary was his willingness to include old David Lee Roth-era songs.
We are true vh fans!!!!!... Abrazo.
