  • I lay no claim to reading, writing or reciting poetry. Still, I deeply admire those who do. Men like David Rendell Curtis and you, Rusty, take the edge off the swords that men like me swing night and day to keep the dragons of fear, envy, and shame at bay. You must know how it hurts when you refuse to take our dare and walk away from the fight that you know we couldn't win on our best day.

  • I am heartened to learn of your empathy for the suffering of a people and pray that history never fall from our knowledge for such suffering should never be allowed to be forgotten lest their lives be in vain.

Lindsay was a voice from his time. In fact, Lindsay was a friend to the black man. His poetry appears racist to us now but by the consensus of his day he was considered to be in a minority of pro-black people.

  • I have just finished reading Uncle Tom's Cabin. I can't convey my horror. I am a native american, my ancestors took their people from the indian tribe & had slaves. It hurts me to the very bottom of my heart to know everything the trashy white folks did to hurt their people. Jesus is the only way, I'll always believe that Uncle Tom was first & formost a real christian & pray for the long lost slaves that lost their lives to Simon Legree. There ia no word low enough to call him.
