Since, apart from Nessun dorma, Paul doesn't sing any other opera arias or perform FULL staged operas anywhere, it causes those of us who DO to giggle.

He is not a professional and doesn't claim to be. The whole idea of the show is to bring raw talent in from ordinary people - and use their exposure to get them recognition and then go on to be professional. @americanidiiiot Opera style "singing" (read - belly moaning!) is not only totally unpleasant to listen to - but Downright Irritating! I don’t consider this archaic out-dated gloomy style of “singing” a valid art form for our modern times and I join with the many others who loathe opera and who believe that it needs to be left behind along with all of the other bad memories of the dark ages!

@gfemg are you fucking serious? are you disabled? sure its boring, i mean...REALLY BORING! but do you honestly think that this is not considered singing? this is singing in its classic form, to be a professional opera singer your voice has to be very very finely tuned, it would take raw talent an hours of practice and passion to perfect. modern day singing is 99% AUTO TUNE done on a computer. if you think this is not singing, you really are an AMERICAN IDIOT, you FILTHY NIGGER DAEMON!!!!!!!!!!!!

@MrR1D3R So you believe opera is only for people at the age of 95? I'm sorry, but that's just plain stupid. Opera is a great piece of entertainment, which many ppl enjoy, including me, a 16 year old guy. It's just a question of taste, you know?

@fraric001 Funny that you'd diss opera but you regard this as "amazing". Also that hour you're talking about is a life commitment to daily singing and perfection comes after tens of thousands of hours, if ever. It makes me sad to see someone defending opera one second and the next stating that it's boring and finding an "off the streets" singer amazing. I'm baffled.

Paul Potts, Andrea Bocelli, Sara Brightman are NOT opera singers....They're pop singers. It's NOT being "snobby"...It's not a judgement...It's simply a fact. None of these people sing opera. They sing pop music...

Bocelli at least tried singing in a couple of opera productions. Without the ever present popera microphones, however, he could barely be heard over the orchestra. That was the end of his "opera" career. Sarah Brightman has no career in opera. She never has. She sings musical theater.

I'm not opera fans nor in opera world, but I knew those singer not an opera singer. Sing with just vibrato and shaking voice plus high notes is not opera. Many classical crossover singer have nice voice and success, but many great opera singer still unknown yet unpopular. How sad.

never did listen to opera before ....but this guy damn near knocked me off my chair .i listened to this here video by accident . the emotion on his face kept me watchin and i've watch it 50 times since .....skipped squirrel huntin , burnt my whole bag an everything . paul potts is the real thing......god bless
