Patterson has some seriously short arms. With his style, it's no wonder he couldn't stay at the top with those stubs. He's like Terry Norris; both were pretty successful for having nubs for arms, although Norris had some power and that makes up for a lot. Patterson had the speed of a middleweight, which makes up for a lot. Sadly, he had the chin of one too.
I went to high school with Tom. Played on the football team wiht him. He did a good jobe at Michigaqn State's football team with his brother Brian. I listened to the fight in the army in Stuttgart Germany. He was tough guy.
At the time of this fight, there were 1/2 dozen fighters in the Portland, OR city limits that would have beaten Tom McNeeley in quick order - to name a few: Amos "Big train" Lincoln, Thad Spencer, Eddie Machen, Andy Kendall...
probably the most underated champion ever ppl fawn over pacquiao beating bigger guys but dispute whether patterson is great r not he was outweighed in probably every pro heavyweight fight he ever had cud probably have fought at middleweight. unlucky in a lot of fights too like his rematch wit ali
Floyd Patterson was a great boxer, he did reasnobly well even through late stages of his career. He was amazing Patterson what hand speed he could generate and combinations. Help Ali when he faced him in this condition. Patterson is a exceptional heavyweight even he would have fough in the light heavyweight and still maintained an awesome career. I would have loved him to fight Sugar Ray Robinson in 1959 heavyweight title scheduled fight if he had beaten Ingemar Johansson. Go Patterson a great
Tom wasn't 'roided up or quite as drunk as Peter, both were easy to hit by Cus' guys. Serious I would like to see a Hurricane Jackson film, too good to get a shot at Marciano's title.
come on pug..why do you need to bad mouth tom..he did a respectable job here aganst a much better fighter...always wonder about the guys who talk like that online..if they ever took a shot in the ring....
floyd one of my favourite fighters of all time man name me one fighter that knocks a guy down and straight away tries to pick him up he was to gentlemen like but in the johannson rematch he showed that tiger that was hidden in him and he said it scared him but imagine if he showed that in all his fights definately had the potential to be top 5 of all time but still is 1 of the greats but his losses to ali liston well they weighed about 30-40 lbs more than no fighter in these days would do that
Thanks for posting! McNeeley was a little weak in the chin department, who was doing all the screaming, did McNeeley have his grandmother in his corner?

Walcott should release an instructional video on how not to ref a fight. What a disaster he was. Great fighter, bad ref.

The weird screaming must have been Tom's mom or grandma at ringside.

McNeeley gets acquainted with Floyd's punching power. Patterson was a very good fighter, it's always a joy to see him at work.

He was a helluva boxer, that's for sure. If he had stayed a light heavy, he might have been champ until...well, until Bob Foster maybe.

Yeah your dead right,,,,even Foster would have had his hands full.
