I love Queen's music from both the 70s and the 80s, including their popular stuff, but I am a bit biased in favor of their oldest albums. They were just so creative and magnificent and I don't understand why more people don't recognize them as one of the greatest bands of all time if not THE greatest.
Queen made the same mistake as Genesisand Rush. Back in the seventies they were great, after that, the big dollars were more important. From A Day At The Races it was going backwards. Until Innuendo. In my opinion the first 4 albums were the greatest. (Queen 2 as my all favorite)
Queen II was my favorite Queen album, the musical structure was complex, It had that metal quality with a touch of medieval fantasy, that made you think of Hobbitts, Wizards, and knights. My least favorite Queen album was "Hot Space"...That one pretty much sounded like they phoned it in. Although I'm biased towards their early stuff anyway.
@daegoman42 =O You think just like me. Queen II reminds me of Hobbits, knights, dwarves, witches, dragons.... all Tolkien´s stuff. And Hot Space is by far my least fave Queen album and also their worst, it sure sounds ahead of its time but it´s just not the good old Queen from " A Nigh At The Opera"! Their early stuff was surely the best!
Yes, because Brian had to be hospitalized with hepatitis... which interrupted their US tour... some of the guitar riffs on Sheer Heart Attack were written in the hospital and added later.
I actually like Body Language, I think it's just a matter of taste. I can understand why you like it less than other Queen songs. I also like Action This Day, which most people don't like.
@dschonsie in my opinion queen are the best band ever... I think Absolute greatest should have 90% of their songs... But to me... and im deeply sorry to you all... but I just HATE cool cat... I tried to listen to it everyday... but jesus christ I just hate it... as for the rest... 4 to 5 stars
Why couldn't all of Queen's songs be this great? It seemed that as soon as they became well known in America, they started pumping out one garbage song after another. Thank goodness for "A Night at the Opera" and all the albums that came before it. Afterward, they had some good songs, but their albums as a whole took a real nose-dive.
Hm...I see what you're talking about. But I think it had more to do with style changing w/ the times than the US. The earlier albums were 70s (which, along with the 60s, I love most), but their later stuff was 80s, so it was more synthesizer and disco, less the old Queen sound. A lot of bands that crossed over 70s-80s changed styles similarly. I think the Moody Blues did, too.
All this is my opinion, though, so if anyone actually KNOWS, or has a different one, I'd be curious to hear and discuss!
You have a point, the quality of music changed a lot during the '80's...if bands wanted to stay in business, they had to conform to the music of the era. Otherwise, they wouldn't have the luxury of coming up with a few gems from time to time. Thank you for your reply.
I fought for you, fought on your side, long before you were born...touching lyrics. This song reminds me how great my parents are. WLQonlineMusic made making playlists for Queen's 1st album and Queen II extremely easy. If you haven't made your own playlists for these albums, check mine out.
for some reason when i listen to this i get son and daughter and father to son mixed up.Sometimes even though they don't i think father to son and son and daughter were related. Not in the lyrics but the titles

This song reminds me of my Dad that passed away because of cancer. A word in your ear
'From father to son
Funny you don't hear
A single word that I say
But my letter to you
Will stay by your side
Thru' the years
Till the loneliness is gone..' That lines always make me cry.
Will love you forever..

i remember when they came out and i still think they are the best muscians bar none. They each have a degree in music and it shows.

I love how they sound like beach boys at 1:50 and then they go into this thrash metal riffing at 2:40. Only Queen could pull something like that off

whether you like "body language" , or not, isn't a matter of "why".
i've always been a great fan of queen. since nearly 30 years, as i remember(time is running too fast, mate)
most of their stuff is fantastic, especially from the 70's, but not everything.
if i hear march of the black queen.......goosebumps
body language.......none
sorry, but that's the way it is

Queen II seems to be the best LP recorded by Queen.
It is the quintessence of their following work!
