He is absolutely endearing. Some of his characters are such polar opposites to the soft-spoken, good-humored, sweet, gentlemanly and modest man we see in the interviews. He is indeed an amazing actor!

I always wondered why shy people would want to be actors. Being a shy person myself, I coudln't imagine getting up in front of a crowd of people or cameras and acting.
@sloan96sc - I believe that when you're shy, being an actor gives you the chance to be someone else. So you don't think as yourself,you think in the mode of the person you're bringing to life. So the fright you might feel yourself evaporates,as you think 'well I'm playing a part - I'll go for it'. Great feeling of liberation.I used to be really shy myself and took part in school plays and other things. Then when you have to talk in front of people, you think about how good you felt then.

Great minds, indeed! :D Yes, if Richard were talented and gorgeous but also arrogant and full of himself--well, I wouldn't fancy the fellow nearly as much. It's his personality and demeanor that set him apart from so many others--a true gentleman. I married one, and I love that sort of man.
