  • Release the Fire mares!

  • Good movie but fukin epic soundtrack

  • REMAKE REMAKE REMAKE REMAKE!!! NO SUPER GOOD LOOKING AMERICAN TEENAGE CAST, NO DEEP HIDDEN MEANINGS, JUST GOOD OLD FASHIONED FUN FUN FUN.... AND WHILE WE ARE HERE... REMAKE FLASH GORDON... AND KEEP THE QUEEN SOUNDTRACK!!!!

  • I LOVE 80's fantasies, don't you? they're better than ANYTHING today.

  • D&D movie ftw!

  • I forgot the fire mares flew, even for a fantasy film that's a bit silly. If they had wings like Pegasus in Clash of the Titans it would make more sense.Still, I think Krull is an entertaining flick with a great score.

  • @richwicz they travel so fast they 1) achieve low orbital velocity and 2) set the very air on fire!! firemares are phenomenal! on earth that would be ~17000mph.. this planet Krull is set on must be HUGE.. it takes a day to get there at 17000mph... 17000*24=408000miles in a day so the minimum circumference would be 816000miles. earth O is ~23000miles.. this is massive! as was this movie!! short in stature broad of vision was it?

  • @mrinvader Thanks for the physics lesson.I wonder if the makers of Krull thought of the notion of flying horses in those terms?

  • James Horner conducted music for Star Trek II and Aliens, but those movies seemed to be bigger than his score. This movie was elevated to a new level thanks to his composition.

  • @bcin3d Yes! Well put. Not since Jaws has a filmed been so enhanced by its music.

  • If the bad guy had any sense, he would leave the doors to his fortress closed, materialize his fortress in orbit so that the vacuum would kill the guys crawling outside, and then return to the planet.

  • You know, if fire mares could only run about 900 leagues in a day before collapsing from exhaustion, the heroes couldn't very well reach Krull's fortress in time, could they?

  • @MrAdvancedAtheist they pull a pony express and switch mid-trip

  • This is a pretty good movie -- i wish they would make a DECENT Dragon Ball Z movie - with a good director and this sort of thing IT COULD BE REALLY GREAT!!

  • It is a great movie, considering when it was made and budget etc; very nice cast, today it would be an ''ensemble''. It has certainly aged very well indeed

  • @Jimshadyx: although it was made on a big budget, it is still a film with a LOT of imagination, a film that relives me from the pressures of the harsh realities that come with everyday life. Anyways, I grew watching this flim often on TV in numerous channels, including HBO and Cinemax. In fact, I often dreamt of having that large shuriken or ninja star he's carrying, the "Glavier", I still don't understand why this film got mixed reviews!

  • the guy dying at the end has epic line !

  • 1:06 Liam Neeson?

  • @onn1320 Nah thats Qui Gon'Gin

  • This movie had the most epic soundrack ever.

  • Great movie - I first saw it back in the mid 80's when I was a kid and many times since! Honestly I can remember every scene about this film. I see that kids for the past 15 years don't know what really good cinema is all about. Great soundtrack - a true hero movie so original in thought!

  • I remember this from my childhood! was always my fave scene as well!

  • Me I remember this when I was thirteen back in summer or 84 in Pelican Narrows,Saskatchwewan when my dad was alive!

  • 4:17 saddest scene in movie history

  • I calculated that a fire mare runs with 67 km/h speed...that's mighty slow...

  • Mares is seas in spanish

  • the music at 6:57 is awesome!!! seen this movie over 50 times, one of the best!!!

  • 6:10 Gotta catch 'em all! A flying horse!

  • i made my own "fire mare effect".. i rode my horse, shoed, on a cubblestone street, at night!

  • Awsome, thanks for putting this on here :)

  • ´´Each to his fate``

  • @Eljaiek That cyclops ruled so hard.

  • Fire Dales!

  • EIGHTIES!!!!

  • remindz me of budweiser

  • Insomnia? Put this on... out like a light.

  • This movie pwnz!!!!

  • The most boring sci-fi flick ever made. Colwyn is more like a milk man than a prince, Ergo the Mafnificent should have been strangled in his sleep, and the guy playing the one-eyed guy obviously can't see a goddamn thing with that prosthetic mask on.

  • @loonmaniac you suck loser

  • @RomulanMastermind You swallow.

  • Everything about this movie is contrived. What if fire horses could only run 900 leagues in a day before collapsing from exhaustion? The heroes would be shit out of luck.

  • i recently bought this had wanted to see it for years. Ever since i was young it was wonderful ! love this part way before the ride of the ghost riders .I was well done i can say nothing bad to this.remind of wildfire the old cartoon especially when they go over the gorge.

  • That score makes me glad to be a man.

  • I think the Shire is the largest horse. They are mostly bay or black. The Percherons are the gray white draft horses

  • this was the only vhs my brothers and i had through most of the 80's lol

the funny thing is a guy i was dating a couple years back, turned out to be todd carty's riding double. you can see him in this scene a few times (3:29) he he he

  • fricken awesome!!!!! i love that music !!!!

  • My #1 classic movie moment of all time probably. I saw Krull in the movies like 4 times. Love it!!

  • better than pegasus

  • LOL at cyclops. You eyeballin' me son? HAHA! Why yes. Yes I am.

  • I beg your pardon arafel1964@lollipopfop, Clydesdales are form Scotland not England. You might have said U.K. and still get partial credit for your statement, but I must insist that Clydesdales are not originally from England..

  • Cheesy rip-off of Star Wars, with bad acting (sorry Liam Neeson and Robby Coltrane), lousy special effects, and stupid dialogue, but I always loved it. No idea why. Awesome soundtrack by James Horner, one of his earliest. This clip might contain my favorite bit of soundtrack from any movie.

  • What kind of horses are those? I have never seen a breed like that. They are very strong looking.

  • @lollipopfop; the horses are Clydesdales from England, the world largest horses. I recognised them on the brown colored ones which is their main colour and the different building from the Shire horse, the second large horse which is mainly grey-white

  • (: Wonderful to see such lovely comments! it is rather special.

A lot of heart and soul went into making this and i know people rib it, but i know a lot of people appreciate it's beauty. (:

  • I think those were Clydesdales. They are some huge horses!

  • I bet you that if the Fire Mares were real, every person in the world especially cowboys would LOVE to have them. It would save loads of gas and time.

  • Great movie.

  • seen previews of clash of the titans looks very dumb. to much special effects.

  • One of my all-time favorite movies!!! I watched this every time it came on when I was a kid!

  • NO REMAKE PLEASE!!! this is classic the way it is. I heard the Clash of the Titans new story and i already am wondering did they damage the classic, even tho i like Sam Worthington?

  • A remake doesn't mean a replacement! They don't damage nor fix the original. But I think it would be fun to have a remake of this. It wouldn't be the same, of course, but it could have its own good points. Remakes have been around from the time of Shakespeare and before that and are a theater tradition. Its like a storyteller hearing a good story then retelling it their own way. I like them. They keep stories from disappearing.

  • Speak for Yourself, Remakes and Sequels sometimes water down or ruin the whole Idea of the thought itself. How? Well, take Freddy. He was Very scary when he premiered but then, them sequels made him Mediocre Scary, as to the - The Dark Boiler Room Murderous Specter He seem to be.I give Credit to Directors like Sam Raimi who Did "Spider-Man"and Micheal Bay on "Transformers". For Sticking to the Script or getting Council from the Original Minds so they can make a Classic close 2 the original story.

  • A remake of this movie shouldn't even be in a persons mind. Besides the charactors you could not even come close to matching the score.

  • this film is spectacular! too bad they didnt make more fantasy movies that arent so loaded with special fx that take away from the main priority, the story

  • lol...the one eye guy..really freak me out when i was a child

  • You were freaked out by the Cyclops? Just like that shape-changing guy? :D

I was kinda myself. But I thought it was real sick when they kill a Slayer and some bloody looking thing comes out from their heads.

  • Those really are beautiful horses. Especially the gray one.

  • This was just reviewed on the Film Sack podcast.

  • Yeah the review on Film Sack was really good.

  • Aargh, why is "remake" called out all the time? Some of the 80s effects may be cheesy, but these days it's hard to imagine that they wouldn't go completely over the top with CGI effects (and would also probably have some perfectly good live non-effects shots done with CGI and look fake as a result, such as rounding up the horses at the start).

  • agreed...plus all we need is brad pitt to be colwyn..then it would really suck

  • Urgh! What else? Robbers replaced with Holywood freedom fighters, Titch with some cheesy "comic" special effect, and Keira Knightley for Lyssa probably.

  • this bought back some childhood memories a remake would be soo cool

  • please no remakes..leave it alone. Y do every one want 2 make a remake?they'll mess it up. g.ijoe, transformer, jason, freddy, a team, thundercats...i mean come on where is the creativity

  • JODER .

  • "We had no time..."

  • They don't make movies likes this like:TRON,DRAGONSLAYER.THE LAST STARFIGHTER,CONDORMAN,THE BLACK HOLE,FLASH GORDON...

  • It was fun growing up in the 80s!

  • For crying out loud my Nephew (4) loves this Movie!!!!

  • so much extra stuff on dvd. io love the comic.

  • OMG!!! THEY HAVE TO MAKE A REMAKE!!!!! The music, storyline, Remake!!!! I grew up on this movie when I was 5

  • A remake!!! they would kill the movie, as they already did with other classics. What are u talking about, man?

  • Gotta love those 80's special effects,.... rofl, but this is an all time fav movie :)

  • Ech to his fate... fantastisch ...

  • Pls can someone upload the film-Haven't seen it for like 20 yrs. My sister and me used to have it on video and it was one of our favourites along with Army of Darkness from the Evil Dead series

  • Comment removed

  • amazing film, watich it and get to 5:59 and wait 10 seconds, if u pay attention to that point, it will rock you...

  • I think is one of the best fantasy movies of the 80's and a cult sci fi classic...I Remember see this movie with my father....What a chillhood!!!

  • @romeonarcizo Is it your favorite because of the huge cocks on the horses, the men in tights, or both ?

  • This movie is awesome. The 80s were filled with cool fantasy movies.

I remember James Franco watching this in Pineapple Express.

  • haha, yupp...i've seen 2 krull references in family guy and one in south park when jesus kills the corrupt pope with the glaive in the easter episode

  • and now im going to ruin your childhood memories by pointing out that this is a metaphor for shagging hot birds

  • Dramatic scene for its day carried by A TRULY rousing score by the legendary James Horner in one of his best works. They should have used those flying horses instead of scaling the Fortress.

  • This is one of the scifi greats along with Blade Runner...and a few others...

  • Isn't that Mr. Bentley from The Jeffersons?

  • got the soundtrack for this movie on Vinyl

  • Still my all-time fav. Sci Fi film! nothing against the others but this one caught my attention the most as a kid especially the soundtrack which fit perfectly in the movie =D 5 stars for the post

  • I didn't read the previous text, you were already onto it!

  • Is that Liam Neeson at 3:45?

  • Yup :)

  • Liam Neeson at 3:40, awesome!

  • I bet these were the inspiration for the gold chocobos in FF7 another mount that can go anywhere.

  • this movie is one of my favorate sci-if's ever.

  • ich kenne so einen ritt durch das game metin 2 . der ritt zum dämonenturm mit einer gilde . sich dem dunkel zu stellen und es zu bezwingen , ich finde diesen film klasse . krull war ein eschter hingucker.

  • I was 10 when this movie came out brings back many memories.

  • krull is a classic!

  • I first saw this movie when I was 5, and I'm surprised it didn't scar me for life. I really like this movie, though.

  • My favorite scene in the whole movie! It was always Krull and Willow back in the days for me.

  • My favourite scene in the film.

  • i love you horses!! XD

  • Fire mares. Underwhelming... they're not even flaming or anything.

  • wonderfull film! I like it too!

  • Oh, I love it ever since I was a kid!

  • in 6:11, where the fire mares fly, it's a beautiful frame! The music and the visuals just blend in.

  • whoooo!! I saw this in 70mm 6 track dolby stereo at the Mann national back in '83. At truly inspiring piece of music by a then 29 year old genius James Horner!

I used to blast this track on my record player every day

  • is the whole film up on here, can only find it in spanish?

  • Can you believe the same composer for Titanic also composed this music? (James Horner)

  • best part of the music from 7mins on!!!

  • This-Krull,& the Movie-"Legend" were two of my Favorites!

  • always loved this film as well, i only liked legend cos of tim currys portrayl of the devils son. he was immense,

  • Man I watched this movie a thousand times as a kid!

  • too right mate.

  • love cyclops

  • I cannot believe that this is such a low key film.

It is one of the best films out there and the music is simply awesome.

  • I know!

I watched this as a kid and it totally blew me away!

I couldn't remember the name of it until I saw one of the actresses in Dune was in this!

Wicked film and a rare sci-fi/fantasy film :)

    5*

  • Whatever happend to cool movies like this iI was 7 when this came out Great shit

  • If cars were never made, this is how Europe and pretty much the world would have been. Electricity exists in the Krull world.

We still would have to rely on horses. It would have been enchanting.

  • Yeah, Europe would have been like that, with cyclopes, giant spiders and everything.

  • LOL!

  • Yeah, but the whole place would have smelt of horseshit!

Before you all cut me down, Krull is one of my favourite films ever with one of the best filmscores.........I even bought the LP

If I ever have a daughter, she will be called Lyssa

  • a cool movie!!

  • this video is awsome

  • GOD, this was one of my all time fave movies from my childhood. LOVE IT

  • Its cheesy but its classic. And if it had a bigger budget it would have been more successful. It may had even been 'as big as Star Wars' as they had intended. Love the movie and always will.

  • I do love that theme tune, and the sequence where they fly off the cliff is greaat (although they do take their time getting there).

As for the CGI argument, who needs a big flashy CGI dragons and all that shit when youve got those sinister slayers dudes.

Nowadays problems start when they start bending the story line to fit in unneccessary CGI clips which are sometimes not even as 'real' feeling as many 1980s special effects.

  • great movie, ahh the memories

  • I wish we would have men that would save their brides like this movie. Romantic

  • I used to love this movie when I was a teenager.

  • Liam Neeson...

  • No shit, thanks for that 3zaqxsw3 I had no idea!

  • I can't agree with you more.

  • :-)

  • The one eyed cyclops dude is played by the late bernard bresslaw of "carry on.." fame. You would'nt pick it if not for the credits and the sound of his disinctive english accent.

  • this movie is sick for 1983

  • Why does everybody have to make fun of a classic 80's movie. Back then they made a movie not like movies now where half that shit is special effects. I still love this movie. Hell, I had the luchbox and played the arcade game for this movie.

  • too right mate! well said! born 1984!

  • I am with you 'shonuffshowstopper' and it just shows your maturity level 'aryanreaper' and 'jedibean827' it's a movie. Fair enough you DIED laughing, however did you DIE laughing when grown men were riding Elephants in Lord of the rings... no I didn't think so, however you will in 20 years no doubt!

  • "We must get inside before the twin suns rise!" They don't write dialogue like that anymore and even if when do the actors don't deliver it with the British luvvie conviction they do in this movie.

  • they are clydesdale's :P

  • hi can anybody tell me what breed these horses are please

  • I take it James Horner did the score for Battle Beyond the Stars too as it sounds very similar. It's not glaives that kill demons it's love

  • It was James Horner. Epic soundtrack if you can get hold of it. Sadly only ever heard it with the movie.

  • It sucks that Hagrid gets zapped in the end!

  • One of the best Scores in a movie. So many other great movies could have used this track.

  • the best scene in this movie, very old skool

  • Pure 80's cheese of the highest concentration and volume.Fuck me what a decade it was!!

  • I saw in the extras that these horses were actually brood mares from a farm and were not really used to being riden so the scenes where the actors were trying to mount and falling off were REAL.

I love this scene too- now I must go out and get the video !!!!

  • This has got a great soundtrack

  • Yes, I agree this soundtrack is amazing...without the soundtrack this movie would be krap I admit

  • This is one of those movies that is is good because it is so bad. I agree the soundtrack makes its a classic. if you ever get a chance to hear the commentary its by two guys 20 years after they made the movie. Its pure rambling nonsence but adds to the movies kudos. Lysette Anthony who plays Lyssa even had her voice dubbed by an older actress as the directors thought she sounded too young. I probably know too much and should shut up :)

  • It wasn't so much her age, the studio bosses at Columbia thought an American actress would give better box office than an English one, so they dubbed her into American. She still seemed pretty pissed off about it on the DVD commentary, nearly 20 years later and takes swipes at the movie throughout.

  • o ya bitches. my last name..
