I remember sitting down in her hold reading an old[1899] edition of Moby Dick. I was getting goosebumps as the ship gently moved with each passing vessel, and the words of Melville in my head. Whew, I'm getting goosebumps now as I think about it.
This is so great! I visited Mystic 6 times in the 10 years I lived out east. Now I'm in the midwest. I'm reading Moby Dick and was just curious if I could get a better image of a whaling ship than the text was affording me. I thought of Mystic and got this video. Thanks so much for posting it.
they should make an unatural reef out of the morgan! or let the military use that heap for target practice!........LOL just kidding but ide turn it into floating jail and bring it back to new bedford and round up all the drunks and drugies in botton wood park and throw them down below lock the hatch and throw the key over board! good enough for them dam scallywags!!!
Beautifully photographed- The Morgan is probably the most popular ship model subject in Amarican history, due in no small part to the exceptional preservation and documentation efforts at Mystic Seaport. We New Bedford folks still miss the old girl though.
Bruce Richter and Carl Richter are decendents of John Layton, First Mate, and finally Captain of the Morgan.
