Scramjet engines are just now coming out. It will be 50 years before our air force has a lot of scramjet fighters.

2010-2020, contractor bids

2030-2040 combat testing

2040-2050 units entering service

2050-2060 become mainstream

They allow mainstream use only when innovations have become obsolete for their benefit.
