Not quite sure what Holmes fans were upset about. The great detective is played straight by Douglas Wilmer. The comedy revolves around his brother Wilder.I've been a Holmes fan myself for almost 57 yrs. & find nothing wrong with it.

This scene had me laughing to tears as a kid, when Wilder whipped the other fellow until his clothes were shreds and then they fight with the big glove and boot on top of the carriage...HILARIOUS!

Sherlock Holmes reduced to slapstick Mel Brooks they didn't care for and felt it disprespected the great man who for countless times, saved England. Hows that?
