  • ok I want they all

    xD

  • that happened to me yesterday.bye bye pc

  • Did you do that to all of them!!!?!?!

  • I have over 150 of those piece of shit and they tend to do that after being idle for some time

  • that just happened to me last friday

  • what were you guys doing anyway? was that for fun or did you have to do it?

  • I do this at work every day. the D530 is notorious for this, its actually a Diode failure, in most cases when I open them up. We make sure to let the new guys plug those in the first day :D

  • I remember when that happened to me. I was so frightened. I was so intensified and my hands were still shaking.

  • My company has 5 or 6 machines just like that, and we lost the power supplies on two of them to a bang and a smoke.

  • Screw HPs, I've seen so many capacitors fry in them!

  • That was just a baby boom. I once fried an entire capacitor bank at a factory which ironically, built electric motors. It was part of an AC/DC converter for use during power outages .... nasty shit. I won't tell you where it was, since I'm not a real popular guy there anymore. But you can still go see the slightly cooked housing I burnt. It just has different guts inside of it now.

  • the glue in the power supply gets conductive with time, and thats what causes the failure...

  • The EXACT same thing happened to MINE. I was away from home, and since I knew lousy weather was coming (and since my old WW2-era home has ungrounded outlets), I unplugged it and left for a week. When I came home, I attempted to plug it in and THAT happened! Other than that, the D530 is a great PC for the money. (Mine runs OS X)

  • exploding marshmellow

  • Found one for a hundred bucks, includes recovery disc and box.

So, does this mean, I should buy a better quality PSU on top of things?

Any other frequent probs with this model?

  • yesterday i got one .

i changed the case , put another power supply and Voila !

    Good Computer for 0$.

  • 480v in a 120 :P

  • Thats very funny!!! You should have a computer sale and sell those messed up computers and then someone turns it on and it doesn't work!!! But you still got the money!!!

  • Quick rip all the cpus and ram out D:

  • That JUST happened to my D530U. The motherboard, I think, is still good, but I can't find a replacement PSU. Stupid HP.

  • @1AppleMaker hi i have one u can get for 10$ but u ill need to pay shipping

  • lol ive just checked 105 of those we are sending em to africa xD

  • I found two on the berm, one exploded like that the other worked fine. Scared me for sure!

  • Had one of those same models do the exact same thing to me when I was working on it one day. I was resting my hand right over where it shorted out as I leaned over the machine to plug it in. Made me jump big time, too.

  • i need your job

  • I've seen plenty of these thing screw up, especially the PSU.

  • i wouldnt have jumped

    i would have smashed it

  • dis is wat exactly happend with mii and i have same cpu as urs

  • I had this happen on 3 computers when I was on them. I was downloading music when suddenly BOOM on the last one, there was a lightning storm and it got struck by lightning.

  • reason for this is the glue in those PSUs used to hold the components in before being soldered. it hardens up and gets conductive when it ages.. result? just look at the vid.

before firing any of those machines up i open up those power supplies and clean off all that glue junk around the mosfets.. easier than fixing one that already blew up ;)

  • Well, this here is why you never skimp on the PSU, the better made ones have allot of protections to prevent what happened here so all your attached hardware doesn't let out the blue mystery smoke of death or worse yet burn down your place.

  • this just happened to me. it was awesome, no lie.

  • Why the hell do you need all erm pc's

  • Damn dude, should have gave me like 10 of those PC's before you blew them all out lol

  • had the same problem changed 2 varistors, 1 capacitor and replaced fuse (all costs ~1$) and its fully working :)

    (now I'm writing from it)

  • how many pcs

  • funny stuff man.

same issue on the same model happened to me when I worked for my school.

got the mobo for free and use it in an emachines case with a different power supply with ubuntu on it.

great compy except for the power supply issues... exciting though...

  • 1 PC at my school didn't work properly, it was this model!

A friend turned on the computer, and suddenly we heared that strange "electric" buzz sound then: BOOM

We were like HOLY MOTHER SHITTING FUCK!

Then the fire alarm was going of XD

  • We have tons of these units and I usually fixe'm on a regular bases.

2 main problem to fix are the power supply and the plugged cpu fan.

So pls keep your comment to yourself as how some ppl are stupid when they connect these comps to the hydro.

If you have any of these D530's, it will prolly happen to you at any given time.

    So no flame wars :)

    Thnx.. Glad to help.

  • they ain't that hard to fix, i said the hell with it and got a better power supply for my DC5000. popped on me twice. the one thing you need to do is just replace the power supply and put it in a tower case. as what I did. computer works excellent now. and for anyone who has purchased that through tiger direct just replace the power supply and it will work fine.

  • Well.. here it goes.

On the PSU primary side a transistor called

    FQA9N90C shorts out.

It takes some other parts with it as well, but the main reason for the short is the dried glue on the legs of the transistor. As it dries after many years ,it carbonises and becomes conductive.

Once it arcs that's all she wrote.

It is a design fault and is common in other supplies where glue has been applied to secure the parts.

These type of a supplies are always on.

So it's NOT the user fault if it dies.

  • for the CPU chip and cooler I use "super glue" to stick the parts together. also added extra cooling creme. it works fine and giving me no hassle at all.. I am a computer genius and would love to help you fix them

  • this also happned to me and im waiting for a replacment that noise of the crackling stays in ur head for a few hours it hurts!!!

  • one word FRIED!!!

  • I got one of these for free :P Ive put two 320gb (removed the floppy drive to make room for the 2nd) hdd in it and 4 gb ram and a nvidia geforce 8200 or something ... will the powersupply fry because it cant handle it?? And can the psu just blow up like that with normal use?

  • Yep! Faulty system board. DON'T just replace the PSU or you will have to get another PSU AND a system board! I've had a couple blow up on me, not nice but less than 1%.

  • yes it can fry and extra video cards are not recommended ,unless if it's like a 5200fx or similar low profile card.

  • I added 3 hard drive 1. 40 GB, 2. 30 GB, 3. 10 GB HD. the I have two western digital HDs both are 640 GB each. 1GB of ram, it can hold 2 GB of ram. DC5000 small form factor is running smooth.

  • Hi, do you know if these computer pose a fire risk? I just bought a used one a few days ago and soon as i plugged it in, the power supply blew. Sent it back and got the power supply replaced. But now that i searched on google, this is quite a common issue and now i'm scared as hell to leave it running at night. i'm not sure i can handle another scare like that :(

  • my baby has never given me a PSU problem. even installed a mediocre graphics card and she runs like a soldier

  • I was think about that there are 3 slots on the computer but was wondering I should since I upgraded power supply to Antec 350 Watt. DC5000 is going strong now..

  • Although it could cause a fire hazard, a component is likely to die before that can happen and fail closed (stop conducting, breaking the circuit). If not the fuse should blow.

  • No, Very good PC's with 1 or 2 Gig on board. Only blow up when turn after a long period of non use.

  • Mine didn't boom but it began to smell and power suddenly dropped. I disassembled the power unit and found glue used in side was colored almost black.

I measured the resistance and it was well conductive. Removing the glue seemed to be fixed the problem in my case. It works OK now but I spent more than 1 hour to do it. What a poor material HP has allowed to use ODM company.

  • let us get some lol

  • I need a power supply of this pc model, where the fuck can I get one? :)

  • I rolled out a few of these not long ago, 2/20 PSU's popped just like that... Heh

  • What a dumbass why would you ever plug a power cord into a computer power supply that is turned on. Wow stay away from my machines that is all I have to say.

  • there is no on/off switch on those power supplys.

  • Give me 30 PC NOW :@

    hhhhhh

from were he get that ???

  • Can I have one?

  • wow if all those worked you could have a lan party

  • I work for a PC resale/refurbishing company and we have this problem too. I got to do the "explode" test on 30 of these PC's, and around 9 exploded, with the 10th PC actually catching on fire. Not really the most fun the first few times

  • You guys look like you have a fun job.

  • that day we did.

  • @jigsaw1984 So what causes them to do this?

  • @117buster

    bad Chinese Capacitor .

  • コンピュータのジャンク品?

  • thanks for the video, my boss just bought 20 of these and didn't belive us that 6 just went BOOM upon connection, nice flash, shame you couldn't get the huge cloud of smoke on video (or the smell!!!)

  • Why call it smellavsion. Call telesmell.

    Vision = Sight

    Tele = long distance.

  • BZZZT

  • lol smelevision.

all of those comps u showed u made them go BOOM??? holy crap i would take all of those things if they werent popped!! im really into electronics.

  • its a fault in the PSU, they didnt blow them up, these models are known to do this. as i posted before a site said it was the glue used in them that after prolonged exposure to heat the glue becomes conductive

  • oh ok :)

  • weird form of entertainment to a computer nerd like me.

  • SOunds like u switched the PSU to 115v while 240v was going into it

  • sorry these dont have the switch, it does it automaticly by itself

  • why did it blow then?

  • i saw a voltage switch on them. A little red switch.

  • i guess some did and some dont, the one i have does not have the red switch on it. but still i took the mobo and drives out of the case and put them in a ANTEC 300 case with a antec 500w PSU.

but there is a web site that tells why these things do that and offers to fix them for $80. the glue used to hold the parts to the PSU board become conductive after prolonged exposure to heat. most of these systems never get turned off so they run for years at a time, with a few resets.

  • but this is not the issue as to why these blow up when they are plugged in, as posted above after a few years of non stop operation in a place not vented well they get exposed to allot of heat, these systems have fan speed settings in bios for all of the fans in the case ( 1 - 4, 1 being the lowest fan speed) most people do not know about this setting in bios. the default fan speed is set to 1 and that is where the fan speed stays at for years on end in a area that has no good ventilation.

  • after the systems are decommissioned they sometimes set for a wile before they are sold/bought and the cmos battery dies and as soon as you plug them in they turn on sending a power surge threw the system and the PSU cant take it if it has been ran hot for years on end.

  • after all these are business computers, businesses use the computers just about every day of the year, the store i work at has the HP models similar to these (but are all black) are in a desk with hardly no ventilation fan speed set to 1 and never turned off and only restarted after the store closes down, these will probably end in the same fate as these in the video. i was lucky to find one that either had the PSU fixed or replaced or wasnt used much at all.

  • Silly of HP, shud make it auto change for temperature. I always build my PCs with good quality PSUs.

  • yea this video and wanting to put a full sized AGP card in it was the reason i bought a ANTEC 300 case and a ANTEC 500w PSU. plus the puney PSU in the D530 SFF is only 185w.

  • they do hav a switch and they are all on 115 if they get turned to 230 they will not turn on. I had one of the students screw with one of them and switch it to 230. It would not come on. When i found he had moved the switch i moved it back and it worked just fine.

  • Really? It usally blows up. Input on 230v and switch set to 115v blows it up, but other way should as the current it too high.

  • SO 115v going into psu set for 230v wud blow, over current.

  • no..it's the other way around.

  • i ran acrost a site that repairs the PSUs in these they say that the PSUs in them use a glue to hold the Parts to the board (even tho the parts are sauldered) long period of time of exposure to heat the glue starts to become cunductive and that is why they blow like that. i have seen a few forums saying that they had a few blow wile running so it isnt just pluging them in that will do it

  • I've had three do that to me, two just today(!) First time I've sworn at work. I was beginning to think it was just me...

  • you test then so if they fail they are not sold?

  • can i have so of them

  • The order of a cord plugging-in won't do that harm. Seems like you're guys killing them for fun selecting 127v on the power supply and plugging into 220v. No?

  • nope. it would seem that way. but we are not.

  • What morons! No wonder it blows up, they are plugging in the cord from the wall to the power supply while the cord is plugged in! Your not supposed to do that! At least, I am not dumb enough to do that! Especially on an old power supply!

  • ehm, i do that every time, and there is no prob, maybe you need that at 110V but 230 oder 220 or 240 i never done that, and it never happened, it only makes a short "brzs" and that was it.

  • we wont you duff pcs

  • D530's suck

  • I beg to differ. I have used mine for quite some time and think it is great. Not the best compared to the new stuff out now, but I have mine working very well. P4 @ 3GHz, 3 gigs of pc3200 ram, a 7600 GC OC 512MB memory card and it plays COD 4 on lower settings. Not bad for a computer that old!

  • they make a GF 7600 in a low profile card ??

i thought the top in a low profile card was a GF 6200 AGP

  • The D530 comes in a small form factor (SFF) and a convetible mini tower. (CMT) The one I have is the CMT version, so it fits any standard computer parts, but yeah if you got the SFF version, there apparently is a lot more hassle with that version.

  • i use one jerk off

  • Wow way to be over sensitive over a PoS computer. Seriously, my company bought 130 of these, and every single one of them hand mobo's that would leak oil from capacitors. We had to replace them all. 'The D530's sucked'

  • Did all those blow up?

  • yep to date around 150 or so have blown up. some of the d5000 are starting to do it now.

  • shoulda bought a mac

  • Very nice video. Like copy of my " Turn On " fire month ago with HP D530SF.

  • Your video is real! It was happens absolutly the same with my HP Compaq D530SFF desktop month ago. That kind of very serious problem could be happens with many other owners of HP D530SFF desktop , because of very bad and stupid construction design.

Even power supply and desktop in working condition you should care about possible fire in your home , because of Power Supply overheat problem.

  • i have the same computer :S

  • can you pm me on what the hell you guys are doing?

    because like damn.

  • all we are doing is pluging them in they are all about 3 to 4 years old and have been used rather heavily but still they should not blow up and through sparks like this.

  • that is all it takes on one that has been abused (used non stop all of its life) is to plug it in for it to blow, its a combination of the fan speed set to the lowest setting in bios (by default and never turned up) and the glue that becomes conductive after prolonged exposure to heat, and even worse when they are shoved into a tight spot with no room for air ciculation. and the fact they sit for a wile after there life in a buisness and the bios battery dies when you plug it in it powers on

  • i took my mobo and drives out of the stock D530 SFF case and away from the crap PSU and put it all together in a ANTEC 300 case with a ANTEC Basiq 500w PSU and all is great. i also did that so i can put my 6800 GT AGP card in it
