I didn't like this at first because of their super-strong American accents but it actually grew on me. Helen Hunt sort of over-stresses her mannishness but I think this is a pretty true performance.
@filmcrazygal i couldn't disagree more. this honours the verse excellently. Olivia speaks in prose at the start of this scene which is perhaps why you can't feel the iambic pulse through the whole thing, but the beat is strong and they jazz well on it.
It's debatable whether Orsino has even met Olivia. "O, when mine eyes did SEE Olivia first..."
This production appears to have taken the decision to make Olivia perform her grief OTT. I see no problem with that choice.
@filmcrazygal There is no "right" way to be done. Besides, did you really think Shakespeare intended his actors to always speak iambic pentameter? How boring. How Shakespeare chooses whether to use prose or verse, and which words, tells the actors the speed they should say things. For example, when there are short words, Shakespeare wanted the actors to speak faster. When long words (like "reverberate"), he wants the actors to speak slower.
I'm so not a Kyra Sedgewick fan.

Wow, this is spectacularly... AWFUL! They have crucified Shakespeare!
None of the subtleties of the text are understood or conveyed. No iambic pentameter. A lot of rhymes are missed out with the American accents.
Does Olivio think she is in a Panto? She is so OTT! You need to believe Orsino could love her.
Watch the 1996 BBC version to see how it is SHOULD be done.
