I bought earthbound when I was in high school (about 6-7 years ago) for only 10-20 bucks... :( I sold it for less T^T..had NO CLUE it was rare!!! I'm just glad I got the play the game..I beat it so many friggin times!!!! >_<

Just came across your video after I've been doing some playing of Mother 1. I'd like to add one point that I'm sure someone has brought up on why the game failed, but I don't want to go through almost two years of comments. The game was generally panned by reviewers. If I remember right Gamepro and IGN gave the game mediocre reviews due to its graphics with only Gamefan understanding what the game was thus giving it a stellar review. Safe to say that kind of reviewing is still prevalent

are you sure the name Ness is a play on words for the american NES? as opposed to the SNES which is an anagram for the same name. this makes more sense to me since Ness was in earthbound and mother 2 which were released on SNES instead of the NES. just though i'd share that ;)

The oversized box didn't fit in game display cases! I went to WalMart to buy this game and they had Earthbound with game accessories on the bottom shelf. You practically had to look at the floor to even see it! If you had come in to look at games in the display case you would never have known that EarthBound was in stock!

I'm not just pulling this out of thin air, there was a Japanese gaming magazine that said so. The same magazine featured interviews with Itoi and the staff, so that bit of info probably came straight from the horse's mouth.
