Interesting to hear George calling Saakashvili a Western puppet who pretty much led a coup against the former ruler of Georgia (You know, the ex KGB fellow) Wonder if George would have enjoyed living there in those days when there was no electricity (Exept in the area where the president lived of course) And even candels were under the control of the mafia.

Chechnya is tha land of Chechens and it really has right for its independence, but so called S.Ossetia was founded by Kommunist Russians in 1929, before that there were just 4 ossetian families living there and it is historical Georgian land

On another issue.  Does Georgia plan to repartiate the Meskheti Turks and return to them their Mosques or what about the Ajaran Muslim there used to be 4 Mosques in Batumi now there is only one. Or how about the Shah Ismail Mosque in Tbilisi when is Georgia going to rebuild that?

I think George too has opted for a bit of a double standard in this case: he opposed the independence of Kosovo, and rightfully so, but now professes sympathy for the "plight of the Ossetians" (btw, Ossetic is a Indo-Iranian language, how come most "Ossetians" are Russophones nowadays?). I admire his zeal in condemning Anglo-American imperialism but when it comes to its equally grim Russian counterpart, he gets a whole lot softer. Pity.

I have to disagree with you my friend.

He had all the right to disagree with the independence of Kosovo.

But, if Kosovo had the right to separate, South Ossetia (which is in the same situation) must have the same right as well.

It is very clear to me that his problem is not with independence itself, but with the fact that political alignment decides if you are right or wrong.

If Serbia had agreed with a military base in Kosovo, albanians would be iced right now.

Kosovo didn't have the right to separate, Kosovo is part of Serbia and the Ossetians are de-facto independent from Georgia and Kosovo was always Serb land, just as S.Ossetia was always Ossetian population.

I generally agree with what Mr Galloway says, but I think he's a little inconsistent on this one. Saakashvili may be a western puppet, but the fact of the matter is Georgia has been the victim of Russian imperialism for quite some time, as Russia's policy towards its non-slavic (and even some of its slavic) dominions has been extremely aggressive during the last centuries, mirroring to some extent the US' policies in Latin America and the Arab world.

Russian Army 500,000 - Georgia 20,000 [+ 1,000 US specials + 1,000 israeli specials].

All about oil - dangerous + unstable

UK army was 200,000; now only 100,000+

If things were grave UK would not have the men but would eventuially resort to pushing a button!

@dbullet Russians bombed those peaceful cities: Gori, Poti, Senaki, Marneuli, Zugdidi, outside hoods of Tbilisi, many villages(the fact is that most of these cities are otside of conflict zone) and it promised to bomb Tbilisi and whole country if Georgia didnt retreated its forces out of so called S.Ossetia...
