Did it hurt your shoulder any? Sometimes that happens but usually not with smaller people. For larger people the resistance to change of motion is much more obvious and they really get pounded by comparison. Just cause you may shoot again, never get between the gun and anything like a tree where you are likely to get smashed. Even the slightest recoil will do damage to the shooter in this position.

The M4 is such a sweet shooting rifle. If you found it difficult, try tucking the stock into your shoulder a little tighter, and not letting it rest on the magazine. But, for your first time, you looked very comfortable. I'm a big fan! ( I love the Guild!) Good luck in all that you do!
Good job and kudos for trying something out of most people's comfort zone. I used to shoot the M16 and one thing you should do for accuracy and to keep it from kicking so much is to tuck the butt into the pocket of your shoulder.

I used to be in the Air Cadets, and we were on the firing range alot. Mostly .22 Lee Enfield rifles that were around sixty years old, lol, but also SA80 rifles which the British Army use as their standard regimental weapon. One of the few things I do miss about cadets. And I agree with you Felicia, it is strangely awe inspiring how easily it is to pull the trigger, knowing the power it holds, even when you're merely targeting a sheet of paper.
My uncle and I took my brother-in-law recently to the shooting range. My brother in law had never held a gun even, and it was funny seeing him a bit freaked out by them, but wanting to impress us. He quickly learned that shooting a Desert Eagle .45 Magnum is much harder in life than in an FPS.

One other tip, keep the stock (rear) of the rifle against your shoulder and that will also lessen the kick.
