  • JUST MISSED!!! "On Carousel" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 14 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1967!!!!

  • This was Graham Nash? He's so young here, I couldn't tell who he was. But he has always been a favorite of mine. Oh, to KittyinVa, we all mispell(lol) so don't worry. It is Stills, not Sills. You may have just made a typo error. We all do that too.

  • Love this song. When the band matured, it sounded much better..instruments,& voices richer

The harmony is great, but it sounds tin like..just needs to be played a couple more times. But, I do love this band, and their songs. Unforgetable

  • One of the best three part harmonies to come out of the 60's

  • God, Allan Clarke's voice was sooo good!

  • There guys were good live.

  • Oh my gosh, I don't know WHY I keep saying Sills when I mean Crosby! I do it all the time. My only excuse is that I'm only about ten years younger than they are! I think, despite all the weed, etc. of their past they are mentally better off than I am! Thanks for the correction!

  • Thanks for this. Just saw Graham with Stephen Sills on Olberman. They serenaded Occupy NY. Good on them for still standing for what they believed in all those years ago.

  • @KittyinVA That was actually the Croz with Graham... *S*. but I totally agree that the courage of their convictions is something to admire and imitate.

  • Graham Nash is so sexy and talented. :)

  • yes indeed such a distinctive voice !

  • anyone notice a young Graham Nash singing lead on this song?

  • this song is on east is east :D

  • I love this music and I love some of today's music though they seem mostly to have nothing in common. These guys seem much sexier to me that's for sure. I am satisfied that I have seen enough butts and abs for this lifetime. Skin has become a real yawn inducer.

  • I'm 64 yrs. My daughter is 22 yrs. We will never like the same thing EVER! I get lectures from her. She likes RAMMSTEIN. No thanks!! On a carousel. Bus stop was great!

  • ps you might say todays music by kids is weak without spirit ,motive or direction and rap for the most is the flood of sewerfolk with chronic tuerets syndrome. lol

  • thee dudes could write.sing & play great together

  • I photographed The Hollies in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (com)

  • i honestly dont like this but its perfect for my summer reading project so thank you hollies

  • The record companies are run by those who are jealous of real talent so they sign garbage and affirmative action sounds that have wrecked us all. We'll never have real talent like the above video.

  • @MZVIRB its more like this: society is dumbed down so bad these days vulgarity is the normal way of speaking for ghetto kids and wanna be ghetto kids that, excuse me, put piss shit fuck motha fucka bling blang bang bang fuck shit piss motha fucka to ryme a hundred times and you got a number one hit. the kids adore and love it. so the record companies market it to them.sad but true, LOL

  • First heard this song on east is east XD

  • Nash sounds really good here.

  • Nice uplifting song. So innocent. I used to be a deadringer for Graham Nash.

  • @AmorePerTutti I loved this song as a kid.....dead ringer for Graham Nash eh?, ya lucky bastid.....still a handsome man......

  • The only thing I regret about the music of the 60's is the equipment hadn't caught up to the performers. These guys were amazing, but the guitars drop out, the vocals disappear, and I don't even see any stage monitors. One wonders how they were able to sing these parts at all.

  • @joe44850 Hey knucklehead they are using the exact same equipment to this day...Les Paul's...Tube amps...drums haven't changed at all...it's just a poor quality recording.....ever listen to a Hendrix record from '66??? Sounds pretty good...or the lush sounds of Pet Sounds from The Beach Boys from that year??....there isn't a guitarist in the world who wouldn't want to go back in a time machine to this day and take all that equipment.....

  • @mjw9363 I was talking about the sound system of the venue, which is why I mentioned stage monitors. Hope you can get a grip on your anger problems. Yours truly, knucklehead.

  • @joe44850 I have a anger problem because I called you a knucklehead???....Why don't YOU see a shrink on your sensitive PUSSY issues.....YOU frickin said the "equipment"...and if you were actually a musician or performing guitarist you'd know KNUCKLEHEAD of course they were using monitors!!!...you just heard the bad sound..thought it was such an ancient time that the reason it sounded bad was because modern equipment is better.....it's not...the sound mixing board might be. not their equipment

  • @mjw9363 I stand corrected. You seem totally calm and normal. I know nothing. I am stupid. They sound great Tip-toeing off this message board. Gonna go read about how much Paul enjoyed the onstage sound before the Beatles stopped touring.

  • @joe44850 HOW CHILDISH and ignorant..Paul and the rest's ONLY problem KNUCKLEHEAD was..Oh, I don't know......60,000 or so screaming girls that drowned out their STAGE MONITORS that haven't change ONE bit since the 1960's.......nice try....lame argument......Funny..when I saw Van Halen...THERE WASN'T ANY...ANY SCREAMING at the top of girls lungs DURING the song....again....nice try

  • Comment removed

  • and you don't need monitors when you amp is like 16" away from you, knucklehead.....face it...you heard the bad recording and out of ignorance you ASSUMED their equipment was old and dated and ya got SCHOOLED on the fact you were way off in your knowledge of that era's equipment and that equipment's ability.....night night

  • @mjw9363 So uhm, you are under the impression they are singing through their guitar amps?

  • @joe44850 aren't YOU the idiot who implied they weren't using monitors???...and guess what dick...you can have your vocals come out of the guitar amp...why do you think there are TWO input jacks., c'mon. Jimi Hendrix's band played guitar, bass AND sang through their ONE Sunn amp back in the '60's. If you look at those old amps, they all had inputs for an instrument and mic. SO PULL YOUR FOOT OUT OF YOUR KNOW IT ALL MOUTH NOW..that's why you see no monitors IDIOT......man enough to apologize?!?

  • @joe44850 and by the way know it all...I count FOUR amps and three guitars???...mmm??? almost as if YES they are singing through a guitar amp...do some research about that era and stage sounding......I've seen The Jimi Hendrix use ONE amp before....night night

  • Alan Clark, Graham Nash, Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliot on drums were The Hollies. The original, the best.

  • First of all this is totally fabulous---and like others are saying, I just love Graham's high tenor opening!

  • A masterpiece of harmony... Great tenor opening by Nash.... I assumed it would have been Clark!

  • The old 45's. you sat for hours, one after the other.Great music comes in every generation.

  • Comment removed

  • No old just do not e for 60% of the shit they call music

  • Well have the music of the past to keep us company, but the music of today sucks

  • @sixnightsaweek Dont be so ignorant there is so much great music today. I fucking hate old people who think music died in the 60's. just because the radio died it doesnt mean music did.

  • @youthXattack though I must say today's music just can't top music from the past. songs like Hotel California, Stairway to heaven, Dust in the wind, sound of silence, bus stop etc can't be compared to most of today produced music

  • @youthXattack I'm 60, look 40, and act 30! It's not the age! It's the shit "white noise" of today, like rap, that graduates of Ghetto University, with majors in EBONICS call music!

  • @sixtiesrockboy yeah the radio hip hop is terrible but im sure thats most likely all the exposure you have and im also guessing you dont really understand it as you were 40 when it really became focused. i havent listened in a LONG time and i dont see it as a representation of my generations music because it was ruined by clear channel and they have been destroying XM as well. So now we must take to the internet to find anything new and interesting

  • @youthXattack Actually, I DO understand part of it. Much of rap and hip-hop speaks of injustice, which I know all about. My childhood was one of incredible violence, trauma, and abuse. I also spent a year fighting in Vietnam, which was a poor man's war fought for rich, one-world, secret-society assholes! It's just that there are much better ways to express one's feelings, and to fight back, than to resort to hateful, evil, disgusting, and violent lyrics, which demean everyone, and spawn hate!

  • @sixtiesrockboy

Yep, you speak for a few million of us that took a little time to catch on to all of this. I guess I see an even more cynical, maybe sinister side to rap and similar media trash. While it may be a representation of present societal experiences in America, I think its exact purpose is to spawn hate and division for the secret ends of the controllers. Even though the music of our generation was thought to be anti-societal it was not but rather an attempt to create good will.

  • @sixnightsaweek Listen to 'thought ballune' by the unknown mortal orchestra! You might reconsider your opinion!

  • Graham Nash on intro!

  • Fuck the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,They've got a hardon for the above mentioned bands,I saw the Moodies w/o Ray Thomas on 5/5/2011,They were great, timeless,Justin Haywood is a virtuoso!!! Fuck 'Em RORHOF

  • hicks, clarke and nash , no wonder these guys are soooooo great

  • They sound amazing! :)

  • Thanks so much for the upload. Used to listen to this OFTEN during the early 70's. Never tire of The Hollies....such a talented band with many contributions to the music world..

  • It must be a "TRIP" being part of a band that still is relavent. If I were part of the Hollies I would read what people post on Youtube just to get a big head. Imagine the memories. Lucky.

  • This my favourite of the songs by The Hollies

  • I love this song. Awesome voices. Why don't they make music like this anymore!

  • That's Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash, (in goatee) doing the lead singing.

  • Love this song! :)

  • 23 cannot ride the carousel

  • Wow.. Graham does this just effortless! Last week in the shower I was trying to sing this and my wife came running in to see if I was alright. LOL...

  • @blueticecho yeap fun praticing !! lol

  • I'd like to know if Tony dressed in a dark closet for this? LOL

  • now op this is live :)

  • I have always felt Graham Nash was/is overated!! Allan Clarke by far had more hits as the vocalist! and it is a shame Allan's name is not as well known in the U.S. as Graham is

  • Reminds me of my childhood during the 60's

  • Fake.

  • @TaterGumfries LMAO!!!

  • Hey this is my high school dance!

  • This track holds very special memories for me :-))

  • Thanks for posting! This song always puts me in a good mood! :D

  • I agree, fire the powers that be in the rock & roll HOF....where are all the good prog rock bands, YES, ELP, along with bands like KANSAS, RUSH, The Moody Blues, Ambrosia, Alan Parsons Project.....who the hell puts a rap band RUN DMC in the HOF.... pure political correctness.

  • @gunnym1 how about the rest of the legendary ladies?

the ronettes ,they desrve to be in r&rhof... but why not induct the exciters, dixie cups, shangri las etc... oh please Add styx ,Reo Speedwagon ,journey etc to the HOF

  • @gunnym1 Ambrosia? Allan Parsons? Heck, why not add Hawkwind and Van der Graaf Generator to that list of HoF hopefuls??? Some seriously pretentious fluff...

Anyway, while not a rap fan per se, I think a one could make a better case for putting some of the better rap acts in the hall than the dreck you listed (though I do like Yes' first two albums, before Rick Wakeman ruined them forever).

R&R HoF is a joke anyway. Don't waste your breath on it.

  • A Young Graham Nash.....great Hollies tune

  • Hi. Yes, regardless of its administrative location, it seems to be an institution who does not understand true talent. thus my comment is valid. I am glad to hear about Neil Diamond!!

  • What do u need a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for?

  • One Of My Favorite Songs Ever!

  • The Hollies Are The Best!

  • I remember that I had this 45. Brings back my preteens. this song is always fresh

  • Forget the silly debates, and conjecture about who is better then who, and so on. A BAND is comprised of elements that work as a unit! These guys are great... People of lesser intelligence debate semantics. Smart people realize talent requires no subjective explanation. It is what it is! Talent!!!

  • Yes but Graham Nash became an Icon after Woodstock!

  • Hey, Can't leave out Bern. The brother was there, too. Bass man. Rocked.

  • Yes Yes More call for Allan Tony Bobby and the boys! Melody superb for all the Hollies!

  • Horrible.

  • reminds me of east is east

  • Move it to Memphis where it should have been in the 1st place!

  • Tony: "Aarrrrrrrrgggh".

  • I remember beuatiful girl by the name of Gayle who lived just outside Paeroa she was my first friend

  • @tmblack Paeroa.

    +

    Isn't that in NZ

  • Good music. Where can i find "Time Machine Jive?

  • Man, what a great band....they must have been bummed when Graham left. He adds such a unique dimention to the vocals just like he did in CSN.

  • G.Nash se a parece a G. Harrison en este tema

  • Graham is also a beautiful human being, born on February 2.

  • gad Graham Nash was a handsome fellow....still is...pretty good singer too...:)

  • when they were forming Crosby , Stills,Nash. They needed one more singer to round out the group . from what i understand someone asked John Sebastian his opinion on who to get. and he said there is a guy from the group by the name of Graham Nash .

  • Rumor back in the day had it that Graham grew the stasche cuz it mad him look somewhat like Errol Flynn.

  • Tony was blowing on leads...... WTF?

  • @MrGerbow

Where? He didn't do any leads in this song. It was Graham anad Alan. Tony jumped in here and there, but not for leads...only third harmony.

  • Great song. Great band. Great lead vocals, Graham!

  • @thevynalsband 4 G'S

  • Oh Graham Nash you are sooooo cute!

    Still love this song today!

Thanks a lot for posting it!

  • great 66 tune. remember it when i was in college. the hollies had so many hip songs.

  • I have always liked the Hollies.....this one perhaps one their finest. Hollies contribution to the 1960s was huge too. Thank you for posting a nice song...

  • Poor Tony got Seinfelds puffy shirt on!

  • Never heard this since I was a kid (get out your calculator). Wow, never heard this live version. Reminds me of being in puppy love with some girl and trying to get next to her on a ride at Cedar Point.....

  • on a BEATLE-sel

  • I was 14 years old when this came out and it still grabs me as much today as then.

Dave R.....Guitar Player (The Bill (Righteous Brothers) Medley band.

  • this sing reminds me of being a lil kid,i used to think the words were "hollies are for sale" lol oh to be a kid again

  • Sorry folks I meant Graham Nash.

  • @Jameson10314 yes it is. He was also in Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

  • is one of the Hollies members David Graham? Please let me know.

  • love you graham nash!!! x

  • @ange2760 I do too! Great minds think alike. LOL

  • Man, wonder where that Les Paul is right now. .....

  • @2253glen imagine graham nash singing lead , thats right crosby stills and nash

  • @2253glen me too.

  • see: Os Velhos da Montanha

  • Huge fan here since I was 12 and Im 30,and I'll spend 30 more...............thanks Hollies

  • Tony Hicks - the era of the puffy shirt!

  • @brtherjohn Lol I was wondering: what the hell is he wearing?

  • I know- Fire the powers that be in the Hall of Fame, develop new policies, move it to Seattle, immediately get Yes, Three Dog Night, Neil Diamond, The Moody Blues, etc., inducted ,with big ceremonies, apologize to them and to us for insulting our intelligence, and get the Hall established as a decent respected organization.

  • @SeattleLA And three time the great Graham Nash.

  • @NewHopeNashFan Hi, Yes, you are right!

  • @SeattleLA The Rock Hall in Cleveland has nothing to do with who is inducted . That is

done by the Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Foundation in New York City . They decide who gets in

    and who doesn't .

BTW , Neil Diamond will be inducted this March .

  • @SeattleLA I vote for T-Rex to go into the hall.

  • @DAVWAVE good idea!

  • I do agree...The Hollies should be in the Hall of Fame,I am for it !

  • @scychan01 they are in it now they got inducted this year at last

  • Classic song by these Awesome Talents !

  • Great musicians, great harmonies with terrific tenor voices AND good-looking dudes, as well. How can you lose, with all of that?

    What a combination!

  • @glaetze I dont know. Would it be too much to ask them to write their own hits?

  • @LarryMcN

    I didn't know that.

I guess the Beatles will always be in a class (or building, for that matter), by themselves.

    The Hollies were, nevertheless, fantastic.

  • @glaetze On a Carousel is actually written by Clarke, Nash and Hicks, along with many of their other hits

  • @MsMamesey Yeah, along with a FEW of their hits. I'm not knocking them, but they were largely a covers band and cant be compared to The Beatles, Kinks or Stones. Anyway, each to their own. I remember my mum bought the best of as an LP in 87, taped it for our car and we used to listen to it on holiday all day every day. My favourite songs were this and Bus Stop so I popped by for a little inhalation of sweet nostalgia.

  • @LarryMcN When the Beatles and Stones started, the majority of their stuff was covers as well. The Stones cribbed heavily from blues acts, and the Beatles used the same formula as the Hollies did, which was to take some established hits by American artists until they reached a point where they could pull off an album of all-original material.

  • When music was a craft, not a diversion

  • I am shocked. The Hollies only now entering the RRHOF. How correct to say it has no credibility. These guys were as BIG as the Beatles during the 1960s in NZ. Much as I liked Nash I felt the introduction of Terry Sylvester added something. Magnificent harmonising, perhaps second only to the Beach Boys during the decade. Greetings to all Hollies fans, young and old.

    Cheers,

    TrueAveril

  • I have always said that they are the most underrated group of the 60's! Look at all the hits they had....and they're never mentioned! It pisses me off! That's P.D. talkin!

  • Yes it is. I believe this was their last hit before Graham left the group. Happy to help. I'm a big Hollies fan.

  • Graham is on the left, Alan Clarke middle and Tony Hicks on the right. And Boddy Elliot superb on drums. What a group.

  • @12715159 Thank you for the clarification! Is this the same lineup that sang "Just One Look?"

  • Coooorrr! Bashing it out LIVE!!! FANTASTIC!!!

  • Where is Graham Nash? Is he the dude singin' with the goatee?

  • @pds3939 Yes.

  • I love Pirate shirts!

  • The best instrumental/drumming/vocals of that era.....

  • This song makes me so, so happy. Beautiful Pop song.

  • Who dressed Tony for this? Blackbeard? LOL

  • The Hollies, Buffalo Springfield and the Byrds, What an amazing pedigree members of CSN&Y had. I can't believe it took all of this time for the Hollies to get into the RnR Hall of Fame. What were they thinking in the past?

  • @rocksinger45, to the best of my knowledge, Bobby and Tony were in England performing with the current lineup and were unable to attend the ceremony. It wasn't due to any bad blood or anything like that. I would have definitely loved to have seen those guys back with Allan, Graham, and Bernie

  • I'm looking for this kind of style with any band in the 2000-2010 period can anyone help me out, because I came up empty, damn..

  • must have been something to see this band live. The studio recordings vs. live are damn good!!

  • I'm wondering if Graham's guitar was plugged in.

  • @rocksinger45 yeah it's not loud though. dodgy TV soundguys back in the 60s!

  • Better than the studio version, this talented they are.

  • bad ass.

  • wow imagine that~~musicians with TALENT> they didn't have to jump all over the place and slither on the floor. They sang interesting songs, with fabulous harmonies, the opposite of the rubbish being called "music" today.

  • i agree with all the cool comments, especially when you consider there were no monitors, live drums, complicated harmonies... but I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT NUT for any of those instruments or amps they're playing through...

  • @SEANFIR I already have a left nut, but I know a guy who has a friend, whose brother was a Hollies roadie. Aparently Graham Nash gave him a guitar once, and this guy lost a ball to cancer in '98.

  • Where did you hear this before we might all be asking the answer is Chuck-E-Cheese or aka ShowbizPizza along with they say it's your birthday by the Beatles

  • People give Graham Nash too much credit for the hollies, he is great however Allan Clarke was one of the greatest singers in 60s Rock and roll , and was the lead singer. Tony Hicks is really a great musiacian (nobody plays look thru any window quite like him!) Bobby elliott is one of rocks greatest drummers . just listen to these guys live and you will agree.

  • @uberpown123 One can never give too much credit to the great Graham Nash! Or to Allan Clarke, Tony Hicks, Bobby Elliott or Bernie Calvert, either.

  • @uberpown123 As a big Hollies fan, who gives Nash "too much credit"? Clarke and Nash are probably one of the finest vocal combos this country has produced. Hicks a "great musician"? He's well polished guitarist - but great... better than Clapton, Hendrix...? Elliott was one of the finest drummers of the era, influencing drummers like Gilson Lavis from Squeeze from the Jools Holland Band. The Hollies were one of the best groups of the 60's and early 1970s. Let the memories continue...

  • @plasticpenguin1 ONLY GRAHAM NASH holds his own with names as stellar as his own. To make more of the other Hollies than they were, though they deserved to ride on his coattails into the Hall of Fame, is not fair to them. While Allan Clarke may be an unsung hero, the special pleading some make for Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliott is not particularly well borne out.

  • @uberpown123 The reason why people give Graham Nash so much credit is because he was the best member. Plain and simple.

  • @uberpown123 Graham Nash had so much genius in his little finger that the Hollies got off the ground in the first place. When the rest of this then stellar group could not share his vision he went on to bigger and better things. But that does not mean that the Hollies were not good enough all around to remain intact without him.

  • i might like this performance for the great energy of their performance and typicalness of the live TV show, but what I LOVE is the million mistakes made throughout, some of which are: dual lead vocals are completely unmatched volume-wise, guitar outta tune, bass a bit outta tune too plus his bass' intonation is whacked! All these mistakes, yeah but they rock balls! Powered thru what coulda been a hell gig.

  • this is a old song but i like it

  • Nash live '66 = great
