  • i adore the suspence and beauty of this film .;)

  • 4 people have forgotten how to listen.

  • THIS LOOKS LIKE THE PROLOGUE TO WATERSHIP DOWN! you know, the part with Frith & El - Aihrairah?

  • @Beautymoon1000 I agree totally... and I don't believe it's just coincidence or accident.

  • the most incredible thing about this movie, is that it makes no attempt to force you into to it. it's entirely up to the viewer whether or not they wish to be sucked up in the magic. i did. and it was incredible.

  • I finally found out why I draw my sun the way I do. It's from the beginning of this! I watched this movie only once before and loved it... and throughout the years I finally come across this once more to figure out the answer to my long-time question...

  • i was watching this last night and my boyfriend the little bastard turned the tv over to 101 i lost it >:( i hit him

  • @bluemiss246 Oh way to go, we shouldn't turn off the tv when people are watching, it's just plain rude.

  • @genelin1995 innit

  • this always gives me chills. "but man may have forgotten how to listen" great line

  • Epic!

  • FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!!!!! So much truth in this, it gives me goosebumps

  • I almost cried . . . . Almost . . . .

  • Very good prologue, anybody who saw it would not think that this film is utter garbage.

  • Figures David Ogden Stiers would be narrating.

  • M. Night Shyamalan is a creative genius. Lady in the Water and The villiage were so far underated. They were masterpieces. I can't believe he is responsible for that crap called " the last airbender". He butchered my favorite TV show. How could you direct that crap M.?

  • @RavenFeathers99 i know all his films were pheonomenal until he made that pile of shit i was so exited about it i bought a ticket the first day it came out but when the ending came i was like "what the fuck was tha?" but he improved it on devil so im happ :)

  • @RavenFeathers99 I love your passion for my two favorite movies of all time. You have much respect in my heart.

  • @BizarroEntertainment One must have passion for such beautifull films. <3

  • @RavenFeathers99 He was working with existing material. The Village and LITW were original screenplays written and directed by M. Knight. That's why you say he butchered your favorite TV show.

  • @RavenFeathers99 Agreed. A lot of people these days are calling M Night one of the worst directors ever, which I think is unfair. Sure Last Air Bender was terrible and the Happening was pretty dumb, but IMHO his work from the Sixth Sense through Lady in the Water is a strong enough body of work not to have him desrve a worst director label.

  • Why are wolves always the bad guys?

  • i know the reviews sucked but i thought this movie was amazing. one of my favorites

  • @setfreejr what do you mean by penetrating?

  • UTTER GAYNESS

  • That's the voice from Saw right?

  • despite the shitty reviews, i personally love this movie.

  • Pffft, I don't think Man knew how to listen to begin with.

  • Did this opening remind anyone of Watership Down?

  • David Ogden Stiers is GREAT at opening monologues!

  • I liked this movie because it shows that anyone can commit violence..but that its the decision that matters. All we have to do is listen.

  • I thought this opening seen was really interesting personally.

  • It's a little insulting to say that anyone who disliked this movie was just expecting mindless horror or violence. There's no need to berate people for liking or disliking it; it's perfectly fine to do either. Objectively, it just wasn't made very well. Good intentions and a message do not excuse poor, self-indulgent writing or acting.

This introduction, however, is beautiful. The score is the saving grace of this movie; I can't remember the last time I heard something so enchanting.

  • Heh. I had to watch this movie in English class. Imagine my suprise when I saw that it was actually a very good, very powerful, movie. 0_o

  • One of my all-time favorite film openings.

  • Sorry but i think this movie really sucks, one of the most stupidest things i ever seen. Made me laugh at best, for its ridiculousness.

  • @Lovlygod Then you my friend are boring and uncreative.

  • @blacklight324337 Or maybe you just like shitty movie?

  • @Lovlygod Yeah, I guess I do.

  • @blacklight324337 then you my friend need to shut up and do something wiyh your life. : )

  • My favourite M. Night movie next to The Village, and it may very well be one of my favourite movies ever. This segment is beautiful, powerful and true...I get goosebumps from it everytime!

  • When my boyfriend and I went to see this movie. He asked if the whole movie was going to be like this with the stick figures. I quite enjoyed this movie and thought it was a beatiful fairy tale, but image the entire movie with stick figures. I would go see it. Just for the share balls of someone producing it.

  • I just can't believe this is by the same guy who brought us The Last Airbender. What happened, Night?!

  • i dont see how this movie is ranked as one of night's worst. I LOVE THIS MOVIE! the message from this scene, and the movie's story is so moving and has many lessons in it.. goodness.. people need to reevaluate what they think is "Good"

  • I remember how watched this movie for the very first time. For years this movie stayed one of my most favorite. It's genre is unique and M. N. Shyamalan's not one-trick pony. Such a pity that this movie is not recognized by so many people.

  • A great scene to a great movie!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite is the cawing of the eagle......Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • I don't need drugs..I have this to listen to

  • I think this was one of his best films to date. He has original ideas and has the guts to put them on film. It's sad how people berate him for this movie and some of the following ones, because there's no violence, no scare to them.

  • David Ogden Stiyers?

  • @Abobojo David Ogden Stiers... the same guy who narrated Beauty and the Beast

  • @DefyGravity2006 Yes..but, that's 'Winchester' from MASH correct?

  • My movie!!! and I'm left handed too.

  • i watched this movie expecting hardcore horror, not philosophy and comedy. now that i've revisited it, i think it's a great film. but that might b why so many people don't like it.

  • Reminds me of Watership Down :)

  • only 61,500??? shame on the world !!.. i started to give up on this wakening ...

  • continuous goosebumps!

  • why did so many people hate this movie??

  • @kerbal666 yeah, i know. this movie was REAALY good

  • @kerbal666 I heard many thought it was lame and sissy. >.<

I think it's beautiful, and inspiring.

  • Cool

  • but anyway this is the only part in the movie that i like xD

  • I love M Night I really don't care what critics says

  • This Movie was so Under Rated.

Decades from know it will become a symbol of how Humanity does not listen to it's silent prophets.

  • i just love this part of the movie is amzingly put "for the ones that live in the ocean" wow... that part just gives me chills

  • i wish i could find dat part n download it on my mp3 n listen to it over n over n over

  • just love it! !

  • One of the most underrated films of all time!!

  • this little story really make me cry and the music.... perfect

  • "But man does not listen.. very well"

  • Powerful Intro/Msg.. Two Thumbs!! "But man, may have forgotten.. how to listen"

  • Well, owning stuff is nice-- hippy.

  • wonderful film!!!! 10 stars! and tears when i yell at the end! yahhh!!!! well done. we love it in my circle.

  • who is the speaker?

  • @Mbarnes3381 its the same narrator for THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

  • @Mbarnes3381narrator: David Ogden Stiers

  • "Men may have forgotten how to listen!" --> damn right!

  • I love this prologue it makes me crying and it's so true, and as u all benath me already said this movie is so fucking damn awesome o:

Just give a fuck to all the bad critics...u've gotta be this filmtype and all the criticizers are like the man in this film who dies at the end because of the Scrunt!

  • Its so beautiful!!!

  • This movie left me speechless....though the ending was weird :O I just want to keep watching it over and over again :D

  • the village would have been better if there were beasts lol

  • so sad...I find this story so thrilling...first came out as a bedtime story, into a extraordinary film. I love this movie...and the next one I have a feeling it will be just a great!

  • FUK everyone that do not have the logic sense to see what many see:

I have this as one of my favourite movies of all time.

Except to one other that I won't tell

    Will you tell?

  • hey do you know what the grass dog enemies of the water people are called

  • @gaara14shukaku Genji Scrunt

  • this is an amazing movie. Inspirational and powerful. If ppl wouldn't look at it as a bad horror movie they would see how incredible and meaningful story this is. I love this movie and it's score. JNH is the best film composer ever.

  • A wonderful prologue to this movie. The music is beautiful, and the message is deep. What IF all these stories we hear about mythical creatures are true, but we just cast them asside as nonesense because we're all to preocupied with science, technology and power...?

  • aah..since "The Village" I wanted to see more Bryce and Shyamalanstuff,so i did with "Lady in the water" and you cannot imagine this blew me away like a thousand of thunderstorms.....this and "the Village" are the best movies and I give a fuck of these critizices ..and that Night got the golden raspberry cares me not a bit

  • I think the film would have been better if it had been animated, given the enchanting opening sequence.

  • Like many of you this movie moves me in ways other films fail. I'm actually reading the book "The man who heard voices" its a book about the process of how Night made this movie. Very interesting insight on his process of filmmaking, this film was very difficult for him to make emotionally. Some writer just followed him around for 2 years and wrote what he saw. I think you can see that emotion on screen. Lady in the Water is my favorite M. Night Film hands down.

  • Everytime i recomend this movie to someone they look at me as if i'm joking. The few who actually watch it are blown away by it.

  • i agree @irishbirdy1

  • But men may have forgotten how to listen...

  • This movie has more meaning than anything else. People don't like it because they were waiting for horror, not substance.

This movie has a very magical Ora for me. I heard the music before I saw the movie and I was completely blown away.

Watching this movie while listening to the rain at night is a wonderful way to expieriance it. This movie may not be one of my favorites, but it is indeed special.

  • the movie and the soundtrack was amazing..

  • Ok can son one explain this to me like how men did not listen?and why did the eagle need the lady in the water?i heard she was a queen of something.....

  • @AGameable Human chose to own and control everything and closed their minds to the influence we share with each other and other beings that have helped us. That was then and things are changing now. Real question is what is it/who is it that you listen to?

    ~Namaste

  • I love this Movie!

  • David Ogden Stiers is narrating - he has a fantastic voice.

  • who is narrating ? anyone know ?

  • I only enjoying watching this video for James Newton Howard's score. It's a shame it was never even in talks of being considered for awards because the overall film did not work well. 2006 was a weaker year for music and this score is rather inspiring and probably one of the most memorable tunes of that year. M Night deals with a lot of great themes and ideas and just doesn't know how to craftily tell them anymore. I don't care if this was a bold "experiment"... if it didnt work, it didnt work.

  • I like all of his movies except the happening.. he has this ability to make fiction ;look and feel real..

  • You are blind to this amazing master piece. You have NO IDEA of what the movie really is.....

  • Please explain. When I saw this, I saw a jumbled and outrageously unbelievable plot, one that doesn't even fulfill what it says it is: a bedtime story for adults. There is no depth unless you force it, but you could force depth on Transformers. This is M Night taking a dump on our faces and calling it art. The only redeeming thing about this movie is the music.

  • @blashco , you fail.

  • I disagree. I enjoyed it a lot. It was slightly incomprehensible because he was trying (unsuccessfully) to break the established rules of cinema, this is what all the stuff with the critic is about.

I liked it because it is so rare to see a film-maker get to experiment with a film in the studio system. Ultimately this expirement failed, but it's still tons of fun, and succeeds with an emotional and "spiritual" undercurrent.

  • @Jcolinsol

A movie is not always judged on the rules of cinema. This nothing but the frame of the picture.... A movie is first of all A story and what we get from it.... This story is briliant in the way it was told and in the lesson it was trying to teach us. A rare gem to say the least

  • @blashco jumbled plot? unbelievable plot? what do ur watching? Discovery channel.. this is a really good film with a great plot. its a shame that majority of the people including didn't understand it.

  • that's there too immature to understand the movie! they expected horror and a suspense thriller with flashy cgi and special effects!

  • I love movies that focus on the being and characteristics of humanity. We are the greatest and the most terrible race on this planet. M. Night Shamalan-

    We love you. :)

  • I didn't like this movie because I approached it as a suspense/horror like Mr. Shyamalan's previous films. Perhaps I should watch it again with a different mindset.

  • One of the most powerful movies ever made in our generation.

I love this movie. The message, the story, the lessons to be learned.

  • Agree ! My second most favorite movie of all times ! An amazing master piece.

  • please tell me the moral lesson of this film. I don't quite get it. what is the girl trying to do with the people living at the apt?

  • @gurkhaboy aside from a few small flaws, yes... it's very underrated and SO hated just because the nerds still hate that Shyamalan not only lacks all the boobs and explosions required to entertain their short attention spans but made fun of them briefly in Signs.

  • Very good movie. I totally recommend it.

  • I was expecting a horror movie, but when I saw the film i was speechless, the movie is 300% better than I exected!! One of my favorites I must say

  • GREAT FILM , thank you

  • Story telling PERFECTION

  • Yes, indeed. :)

  • @ParkerPennsylvania

Indeed is.... Good to see so many people touched by this amazing master piece... It is one of a king message to us all..... The awakening of men....

  • @ParkerPennsylvania finally i found some m.night shyamalan fans

  • The reason people disliked this movie was because they went in expecting suspense thriller with realism and a twist at the end, like Shamalan usually does and instead got a modern fairy tale with a message about human nature. If they were to go in expecting a fairy tale like a friend told me to do when i saw it, they probably would have liked it.

  • ....But men not listen very well.... Men needs to own everything...The world of men became... war

  • Void , your name serves you well... You are in comlete void , not understanding this amazing master piece

  • I don't care what critics say. This was a good movie, with deep meaning. It makes me wonder what other insights Shyamalan can share.

  • i thought this movie was really good and unique. i had no idea what it was going to be about going into it. but i loved it. i guess it just boils down to each one's own personal preference. guess it just isn't for everybody.

  • The narrator is actually David Ogden Stiers.

I commend M. Night for taking chances and seeing his vision through, however this movie wasn't very good and the Happening was even worse.

The opening narrative, Paul Giamatti, and the soundtrack, however, were very good.

  • It is the actor from The Village, his name is William Hurt.

  • Ka mabo hau tu aklamo seida. Shyamalan mabdo, ira mewo ineidi...

Cette histoire est magnifique et le film était magique. Shyamalan est un conteur, notre époque en a cruellement besoin...

  • not at all.. this was a great movie.. apparently only ppl with open minds see this.. anyway.. hands down worst movie is alone in the dark :P dont watch it to see if im right.. illsave you the grief lol

  • The rest of this movie should have been animated. It would have been better that way. I prefer the village to this one.

  • his voice is so calm, I just want him to be my bed time story teller hehe.. good night to myself aah nice.

  • Remind you at all of Watership Down? :)

  • 1:53 my favourite part!

  • I do agree the story in this movie is very captivating. Also I'm dissapppointed in it as well. They could have done so much better with the graphics. There is room for improvement on the "monsters" design. But again the story of this is very creative and beautifully done. =)

  • I'm tired of movies in which the graphics department has more control than the storyteller.

  • This movie is the most beautifull story ever tell!!! it´s full of hope and so deep... i cry everytime i see it.

  • good film. i just feel sad but i dont. just make me speechless

  • is this the narrator from beauty and the beast?

  • sounds like the guy from the village. forget the actors name though.

  • I like when Shyamalans character meets Story for the first time. It gave you a strange feeling. I felt it too.

  • lovethismovie

  • this movie is so bueatiful and just so good I want to watch it so bad

  • This movie is the epitomy of wonder.

I'm trying to think of what else to say, but whenever I watch this movie. I'm speechless...

**But as for the part in the movie where Reggie has to 'hold off' the scrunt... Whoo! Epic standoff ftw**

  • I know right? Reggie with his half buff arms ahah.

  • I have just watched this movie!

    Left me feeling very mystical...

Such a great story and was completely drawn into the characters and the plot.

It was very enjoyable! 10/10 for me

  • Wonderful film. Shyamalan establishes a fairytale world with this great prologue and pretty much sets the viewer up to either accept the story and take the journey with him or not

Most of the people who "hated" this film simply couldn't believe in the fairytale story, even though it's spelled out for them.

There's even the scene with Giamatti on the couch where he has to pretend to be child-like... that's the whole idea of this great little film.

  • This fairytale is a mirror to the world of men..... A mirror to the amazing thing called humanity... Our own

  • I hated this movie too; kind of outside the "norm" (i guess) for a movie for me. However...I gave it a few days, and watched it again....and loved it! out of the 23900 movies I've watched, I would have to say that was a first for me. :)

  • Good To Hear :)

  • yea most def. Most of the people who hated this film are slacktards that only watch a movie for effects and not for the story, explaining why hollywood churns out nothing but absolute garbage anymore. Thank you M Night for remaining a great story teller and ignoring Hollywood Facism.

  • This movie was awesome, anyone who thinks other wise, can suck it.

  • The beautiful brilliant story is hiding in the plain and simple but it is far from being simple... Just peel the layers and open your eyes to see......

  • I agree - this movie was beautiful.

    So full of hope.

I guess the best movies usually are :)

As for the film being 'average' - wasn't that part of the premise? Part of the point?

I found that it made the overall message far more personal - far more potent. I ended up greatly admiring the story - and i enjoyed it even more than 'Signs' (which was pretty damn good).

    Keep it up Shyamalan.

    - from a Young (and now, slightly hopeful) British fan.

  • I know people won't like me for this, but I thought this movie was quite average. It was fairly enjoyable at times, but really... M. Night Shyamalan can make a great movie, but this has got to be his weakest, along with The Happening. Personally, I think the greatest thing about this movie is James Newton Howard's fantastic soundtrack (I love all of his work and this is no exception).

P.S This prologue was really beautifully done, but it is the best part of the movie IMO

  • This is one of the most brilliant movies of all times . You need to fully understand it to see that .

  • i think what the man is tryin to say is compared to all his other movies, this was his least favorite. signs, by far the best. soundtrack, creativity, and over all plot was awsome. fo sho fo sho

  • ....But men may have forgotten how to listen....
