bruce lee doing the cobra move...as you get mesmerised and hypnotised..WHAM!!!!!!!!! his other hand in the neck breaks your occipital centraleus nerveus and you fall dead on the ground...twitching...red circles flashing here and there..
@Shakespeare1612 Depends what you are looking to do with the tracked object really. However hand tracking is a lot easier than finger-tip tracking would be in a real world enviroment since finger tips will often disappear from view due to the angle of the hand.
@RyanfaeScotland I don't know if you have seen any of my videos but I am all about controlling computers in new and unique ways. A hand, a whole hand, does not make it easy to push onscreen buttons, or twist / slide onscreen controls that were built for a regular mouse pointer. Sure you can write CUSTOM software with huge buttons, but that means thowing out all the software that already exists in the world.
@Shakespeare1612 Hey Shakespeare, I think you've got the right idea, sonnet writting is a bit old fasioned now and the last thing you want is to get 'pigeon holed' as a writer, time you moved on to new, modern things so computer vision technology is obviously the next logical step for you. :D
Joking aside, I haven't saw your videos yet (will check them out after this comment) but I think I should point out that I didn't say anything about pushing onscreen buttons or using any form of control.
@Shakespeare1612 I simply pointed out that it is easier to track a hand than a finger hence this is probably the reason why there are a lot more people doing it. Plus I said it really depends on what they are looking to do with the tracked object. In your case, controlling small onscreen objects, then I agree, a hand would be too big to acurrately decide what object the user is trying to control. Something narrower, like a finger or pointer, would be much better suited :)

Why does everybody track a hand? Wouldn't tracking a finger tip or the tip of a pointer be more useful?
