Players shuffle sideways in opposite direction of their partner. 63 shots in 47 seconds. 4 half volleys. 10 shots would have landed out. Why is this drill a 'good' drill?! @bachfor You get to work on placement and precision as well as versatility (receiving the ball from everywhere, sending it everwhere). The Byran brothers are the most over rated tennis players in history. Right behind Taylor Dent, Giniepri, Fish, Isner and of course the Jensen brothers. Amazing how the media portrays them as so great. These guys couldn't hold a candle to Seguso and Flach. And by the way the suck too. It doesn't surprise me how Bush convinced America Iraq had nuclear weapons and started a war for no reason except to make him and his buddies rich. Americans are so stupid.
@dura1mater Buddy do you know anything about tennis?
overrated no...they have made a name for themselves through hard work and determination. Look im a Canadian and in no way what so ever support bushes actions but how in the hell does that at all relate to the Byran brothers?
@Darkrayne1 My point is this. Doubles is dead, but the American media portrays it like it's real tennis. Most real tennis players have abandoned it. Scrubs like the Byran brothers pretend they are great because all the Real players don't even play it anymore. It's like playing beer pong at the frat . Not a real sport. But the Byran brothers are great at it. Same thing with Bush and nuclear weapons in Iraq. BUsh and media really fooled stupid Americans to think something was there.
being part romanian, a real romanian volley is when u jump on to the court nick the ball then sell it to ur mate at the trailer park for 10 euro cents

This really isn't that hard to do. My brother Dave and I are both 3.0 players and we warm up at every member guest tournament by doing this drill--to be honest it usually intimidates our opponents.
Doubles is a VERY different game. Yes, it is possible that Nadal and Federer could roll the Bryan brothers. But they could just as easily get beaten by not working cohesively as a team.
Federer i understand seeing as he won the gold in doubles with stan, but nadal really doesnt fit the doubles mold. if nadal and fed were to play together im pretty sure the bryans would win quite easily.
Nadal plays differently in doubles. He's actually very aggressive as far as net play goes and plays a bunch of serve and volleys, etc. I understand what you mean though. If he was playing trademark singles Nadal, genuinely good doubles teams would have an easy time against him.
I actually haven't seen Nadal play doubles i was assuming, but if he were to play traditional doubles i might see him doing okay in doubles. i still don't see him being a standout... doubles is so much about service and return and Nadals returns are not the strongest point of his game and neither is his serve. The strongest points of his game is his relentless retrieval of balls, and in doubles retrieval of balls just does not count as a weapon. Still would be a fun match to watch regardless.
Nadal would have a few weapons that you should keep in mind
1) His volleys are solid (he won a wimbledon)
2) His passing shots are best in the buisness
Not to mention his serve isnt really fast, but its side spin jumps off the court, and the returning player would have trouble getting that back in play, keeping in mind there would be a player at the net
Would be nice to see both archrivals play at least one tournament together before the end of Federer's career... I doubt it would happen, but everyone would sale their mom and kick a baby to have them do it in their tournament!
@GueorguiJoukov Haha yea because pretty much everyone in the world (even people who don't really like tennis) watches a slam final between Nadal and Federer
@ChancellorTF2 Well this reiterates my point that Nadal does not fit the doubles Mold, but on the flip side you could argue that Nole's game is completely lost right now even when he does the right things he doesnt notice it himself and berates himself, but yes people who play doubles and make it their priority will undoubtedly beat a relatively new combination even if that combination are the number 1 and soon to be number 3 in the world respectively. =] Excuse my grammer im lazy lol
@ChancellorTF At the time of my comment the points on the atp site were not updated but with fed beating novak in the semis it was guaranteed therefore my use of the phrase soon to be number 3 =]
@Thephiphi I think you're right, but still I think it is amazing that even though Nadal isn't a doubles player, he still managed to win the indian wells doubles in 2010 against nestor and zimonjic, that was impressive
@wingra10 Of course i said this over two years ago i think? Nadal has ramped up his serve and returns closer to the baseline now, i wouldn't say it would be impossible today to see Roger and Rafa beating top tier Doubles player such as the Bryan's. Of course i would still put the Bryan ahead of them if they played multiple matches, but i'm more incline to say that Rafa/Nadal could steal a couple from them here and there
@XLRLimits Again, i reiterate the fact that when you have two players as talented as nadal and federer on a court, champions that they are, you can never count them out, the raw facts tell us that the bryans are the safe pick, history teaches us that champions can and will find a way, its definitely a win-able match for fed and nadal if it were to ever happen.
The top singles players would probably beat the top doubles players if they really wanted to go far in a tournament. The Fedrinka team is a good example.
Yeah, but its not because they're 2 amazing singles players, its because they've trained together for years, and trained SPECIFIALLY for doubles play, which is completely different.
yeh i actully think some of the top doubles players would make the transition easier to singles. fed and warinka were so good because fed has an all court game. great serve, great return of serve and is very good at the net. alot of singles players are too one dimensional to make the transition. for instance i think bob n mike bryan would be good at singles. big serves good of the groundstrokes, great vollyiers and move well...
wrong they play singles only during gs gs jus takes too much time and focus on jus singles doing doubles would be overkill
perfect example are the williams sisters since they play doubles during the gs they hav to play everyday although its not as physical since womens game plays only 3 sets not 5
but the mens do play non gs double tornys but its kinda rare
by top players i mean guys inside the top 50. obviously guys ranked inside top ten would be concentrating on singles more in the slams. there are plenty of players inside the top 50 who play both. Monfils, Tsonga, stepanek, sam querry, john isner, tommy robredo, verdasco. alot of them do it just for practice to help prepare them for singles. if youre talking about tournes then i know hewitt and muray sometimes play together, roddick played doubles in queens this year.
This drill is intended for volleys inside the service line to improve the quickness of your hands and feet moving laterally. They're playing it safe by moving along the service line which gives them more time to punch those volleys towards each other. It's much quicker and more realistic if they keep moving their feet inside the service line. Try it Bob and Mike.
To paranoidgoldfish: Don't even waste your time replying to those stupid comments left by people with nothing to do other than insulting tennis players that they can never beat. There are a lot of haters out there who simply have too much free time on their hand and likes to criticize just for the sake to criticize.
Btw: Doubles players get a lot of shit out there. They may not be as fun to watch, but they definitely require more skill to score.
This ...is simply beautiful tennis.

I wonder if Federer could do that...
Of course Federer wouldn't need to because he has a great serve and a forehand.

Our coach tried to get us to do this drill, but then he realized we couldn't do it.

Same here... that's why we only tried it once

My coach mentioned this video and I said (all pumped up like a kid): "Yeah, let´s do it!"
We´ve tried a couple of times and he said "Nah, better stick to the standard drill..." :-/
