This is a great video. I have a PWS MK116 and there really isn't much I would do to it except for buying a red dot sight and a tac light. Now that I have that beauty, I can have patience in buying a part here and there to build one exactly as I want. Black and OD Green, 20" barrel. Or maybe 14" with a suppressor. Hmmmm.....
Definitely agree with you for the most part sir. If you're patient, you can get what you want, and spend less doing so. I, on the other hand, am not patient. So I spent the money and bought one. Luckily, I found one that had just about everything I wanted, so minor changes wont be a huge budget breaker. Nice piece though. Hope it works for you. Godspeed.
I’m looking into buying an AR 15. My neighbor just purchased one from a local gun dealer here in Washington State for $575. I don’t know much about AR 15’s or guns for that matter, YET. The gun looks great. It’s all black, but pretty basic compared to some of the ones I’ve seen here on YT.
@ChazOneZeroSeven Sigs? What Sig are you referring too? Last sig I remember hearing about that had any malfunctions was the P238. Heard only good things about the M400 and 522 series rifles. I don't keep up with the 556 variants, which is a completely different rifle.
@bygoran Building a rifle would mean from the ground up, every part. Assembling a rifle would simply be what you do every time you put your upper and lower back together after cleaning it.
I agree with your take on this, like most will... But I recently found a great deal on a Sig M400 dressed in Magpul polymer and is right at $900.00. Exception to every rule I'd say. But of course later down the road I may upgrade it a bit. But I just need something lighter for plinking other than my LMT MRP PD AR.
@shaokem Hey man, just wanted to let you know that M400 is a fantastic rifle. Bought mine in January, and I couldn't be happier with that gun. Although it is my first AR, and I was very new to the scene when I made the purchase, there isn't a better first time buyers gun. I know you already have an LMT, but I just wanted to let you know the enhanced Sig is awesome because it's next to impossible to find any first hand information about it on the internet at this point. Cheers!
@spekdoc3 Yeah... not a whole lot of info out there yet. My local Walmart was sold out of the Sig Enhanced M400. They had 10 of them in stock and they all sold out in less than 5 days. Hopefully I'll get around to picking one up later this week when they get more in.
Yep, i got a smith and wession mp 15 and replaced almost everything on it. The real problem is now i have all of these spare parts but i don't want to use them to build another because then i would only want to replace them again
im about to build my first ar and ive already shopped around and with everything including shipping its gonna cost about 700 so i completely agree with you man and i already do a lot of gunsmithing and ive already built a couple guns so im excited to do this one ..oh and by the way man beautiful rifle
I'm working on a fifty beowulf build. If i just buy an upper and a lower, I am looking at less than nine hundred dollars. if i wanted to buy a stripped lower and all the parts I could easily cut that down to 700 or less. Build em. You WILL save money.
what this guy fails to tell the viewers is that you have to have a ffl to purchase a lower online. even then with prices going up, to have a quality ar you'll be around 800 just for the basics. no sights, no optics, no mag. and unavailability on alot of certain manufacturers means too much waiting for me. s&w m&p15or at my local gun store is 849. its basic but high quality. del ton msrp 750, stag 15 starts around 900. doing it yourself is much more rewarding though. and fun.
I built an AR15 to save money. Did not turn out that way though. When finished - shootable - I had spent around $1,800. The store I bought the upper and lower from sold complete AR15s for $600. I paid $200 for tools needed for the build. But, I got exactly what I wanted, installed every spring and pin, and have a very good understanding of how the gun works. I had a gunsmith inspect and test shoot it before I did. So, the extra cost was for my education. Quality parts costs more.
@SparksTactical I am new to AR-15's and I dont know any of the good manufacturers. I want to build but what parts will I need and what makes should I get?
I feel you bro gun stores make it really hard to support them when they mark up there prices 15 to 30 dollars I bought a amiselector for around 30 dollars with shipping at BC and the same part 120 dollars at a gun store!!!!
What you dont talk about is the cost for the tools, and then your not charging yourself for time or skill level.... If you by DI ar get a DD if its a piston gun get a lwrc you will get what you want and pay almost the price of parts tools labor and you get a warrenty.... Thats what your paying for, your not saving yourself any money by building your own ar with budget parts...
I disagree. Mine was over $900 with shipping. It could have been a lot cheaper if I had ordered some parts offline rather than buy them at a local gun shop. If I had, the total cost would have been in the low $800 price range.
Most people do not save money on building their ar 15. Why do i say this yeah the individual parts are cheaper and all that but, unless you buy all the parts at once, the constant shipping charges will actually put you over the cost of the Already made AR.
hey you said you found the upper receiver for cheaper online ? just wondering what site that was i'm needing a new flat top upper and that one looks nice and fits the price
I built a DPMS LR308. Went out to Build a SASS with a low profile Gas Block. after everything was said and done it was actually around the same if not just a bit cheaper. -DPMS High Rise Upper -DPMS lower -DPMS High Rise Float Tube(Rifle Length) -Yankee Hill Low Profile Gas Block -Magpul PRS stock -Magpul MOE Grip -JP enterprise Ben Cooley Compensater -Random performance internals All an all i built it myself just to say I did and some subtle differences Payed about the same as a SASS
i have 2 ars now one being an a custom job that i put together over a few years and the other being a m&p 15 sport that i snagged the other day in a package deal with 450 rounds two preban mags (necessity in ny) and a steel case for 850 at a local gun shop. gotta say that was cheaper than my build and i havent had any problems. dont get me wrong i love my build. kinda suprised me me actually considering ive always been a build your own kinda guy.
@chrisfromoh AR15s are very easy to take apart and put together. They simply have two take down pins that separate the upper receiver and lower receiver. No tools, just your fingers.
@SparksTactical so if i buy an upper and lower i can just connect the 2 pins and bring her to the range and she will shoot? It can't be that simple and cheap..
@chrisfromoh the entire project shouldn't require a gun smith. Children can put them together like legos they're so easy it's almost a misuse of the word "build".
dude ur so right man all these people go out and spent crazy money on a simple gun and then upgrade it when they could prob have that upgraded gun they want for the same price they spent on the basic model.

Some of my comments on here may make people think I am against building. I am not. It's a great way to go. They really are not hard to build & it gives you an intimate knowledge of your rifle as well as the exact gun you want for less $. The only possible drawback is in the event of future laws concerning "assault rifles" there could be questions of the rifles completed manufacture date just like there was in the 94 AWB. It isn't something to be scared of, just something to be aware of.
Building is needless........you can get a MILSPEC weapon from Colt for 1K or slightly less; fresh out of the grease......You need not pay 1200 to 1300 for it.
is there a way to buy the parts online where they dont have to be sent to a FFL? it defeats the purpose of building my own if i gotta go to a gun shop and pay $45 to pikit up neways. thx
I agree building a rifle is a great way to go but 1 thing to consider is every piece of proposed legislation aimed at what they call assault rifles has something in there saying you must prove date of completed manufacture, not just manufacture of the lower. Otherwise it will not be grandfathered in if there is any ban in the future. Basically, if you build one & cant prove it was a complete rifle before any new laws that lower may have to comply with the new laws. Just something to considerCont
@shananagans5 I know that's lots of ifs & maybes but these anti gun people are getting real sneaky & will try anything to limit our rights including making it complicated & confusing to enjoy our sport/hobby. The anti gun people are on to the fact that lots of people are building their own & you can bet they would use any trick they could to somehow make that rifle not qualify to be grandfathered in if they ever manage to get another "assault" rifle ban in place.
@LiveFreeOrDie1985 Manufacturers keep records on how it left their facility. I agree, it shouldn't be their business but what are you going to do? Get into a shootout with the feds? That won't work out to well for you. Point is. we need to get organized & get the laws changed. In the meantime, we need to work within the system. That was actually an issue with the 94 AWB & something people should be aware of & should have some way to verify when their gun was built to avoid possible issues
@shananagans5 We do..it's called a serial number,"that" has a build date.Anyway, the build possibilities of this weapons platform is what drives the braindead liberal Dumicrats insane! They can't regulate and confiscate under the broadstroke of calling a weapons "system" criminal. They have a need to personalize it down to EVERY individuals' gun, and rights, BUT that's when they hit the 2nd Amendment wall! Makin' it personal! I can buy an assembled rifle,go straight home and swap barrels-legally!
@instinct62shooter Yes but a lower is not a complete rifle & manufactures keep records to that effect. There is a chance, if there is new restrictions that a custom build will not be grandfathered in if you can't prove a completed manufacture date. I totally agree, it's stupid for them to try to regulate but, they are & keeping things in order is important. You want to get caught with your pants down if there is a new ban & your lower has no completed manufacture date & it's suddenly not legal?
@instinct62shooter I am not saying don't build your own. I am just saying be aware. It was a problem with the 94 ban. We should learn from the past & avoid those problems. I had to swap out a barrel & sight on a lower I had built in 91 because I couldn't prove a complete date. Not likely to have become a problem but, had I not done that, it would have technically been an illegal gun. I agree it's stupid but how many peoples lives have been ruined by these dumb ass libs pushing technicalities.
@LiveFreeOrDie1985 My fav gun is one I built but I also took a photo with a notary to verify build date just in case. Somehow, showing a piece of paper if there ever is a question seems to me a better option than telling the feds to go F themselves.
@ChazOneZeroSeven You obviously are missing the point. I don't know if you realize this or not, but he could have built an AR15 with magpul furniture for less than that. Even with the red dot.
@ChazOneZeroSeven could have built a better rifle for less. Could have bought a already assembled Sig Enhanced M400 and a Primary Arms Micro Dot for 1,000.
Colt SP6920MPB. Magpul accessories stock. Eats all 5.56/.223 without a hiccup including, Tula .223, Aguila .223, Wolf Military Classic .223, Federal American Eagle .223, Federal Lake City 5.56 NATO (M193), and Federal Lake City 5.56 NATO (M855). 200 rounds at least of each. Haven't tried PMC or the Russian Bear shit yet. ($1125) Nuff said.
I've been saving up for an AR for a while now and im trying to figure out some of the best and least expensive places to purchase from. I'm edging towards a mid length AR, any ideas where i could find a good deal? Thanks! Great video.
I purchased the Bushmaster M4A3 AR-15 from wal-mart for $895 a couple days ago, so far I'm really happy with it, its the first gun I've ever owned and I didn't want to build my own for my first gun. Also its cheaper than you paid and you built your own
Great video SparksTactical! it gave some things to think about. i wanted to share with u and your subscribers that earlier today i was in the sporting goods section of my local WalMart and saw that they are selling a bushmaster AR-15 for just under $900. I should have snapped a photo. I just never thought I would see an AR in a WalMart. Not sure what to think of it and just wanted to share what i saw.
@mybrain07 I purchased the Bushmaster M4A3 AR-15 from wal-mart for $895 a couple days ago, so far I'm really happy with it, its the first gun I've ever owned and I didn't want to build my own for my first gun.
@BoysBigToyz the real diffrence is accuracy and the look of the gun afterwards when the rail is free floated then nothing touches on ypir barrel making your gun a little more accurate

@ChazOneZeroSeven could have built a better rifle for less. Could have bought a already assembled Sig Enhanced M400 and a Primary Arms Micro Dot for 1,000.

@BoysBigToyz the real diffrence is accuracy and the look of the gun afterwards when the rail is free floated then nothing touches on ypir barrel making your gun a little more accurate

@bobsolla I recently finished my first build and I'm already planning my second. You won't see me buy one anytime soon. I'd much rather build it.

So what is the difference between a monolithic rail system and a floating rail system and does it make a difference? Thanks
BoysBigToyz 2 months ago
Great Video... I bought My first and then built my second... On the Second cost me about 2 of the first rifle's price.
