Thanks. Sad to see any railway abandoned anywhere. I live in the United States and have seen may railways abandoned. I lived in Japan for a little while. Same things happening there as did here. Where is Usui Pass?

This section, called Usui Pass, was abandoned at Sept. 30, 1997.

I know its cool, but what is the point of having two heavy Locomotives pulling a set of EMU's?

This section was very famous for a steep slope (66‰).
All trains,even fast express trains, needed to couple two powerful locomotives (EF63) for pass the slope.
