By the way, in a french documentary about seal hunting, they managed to observe a group of animal activists that found a suffering seal that hadnt been killed properly.
Instead of ending the animal's life and sufferings which would have been the best thing to do, they took out their equipment and prepared a photo shoot with the dying animal.
After 2Hours, the animal was then abandonned on the ice, still alive before finally getting killed by a hunter that passed by.
Who is worse in this story??? This is a perfect example of the industry wide 5% "struck and lost" rate. That makes over 15K seals that died in '06 like this baby seal would have were it not for IFAW putting it out of its misery days before it would have starved to death. The video was key in providing evidence to the court of public opinion that saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of seals, if not millions. Whose worse in this case?? Pfft!

They are whacked once and then escape into the water to either die a prolonged and miserable death or drown or continue to live but are unable to hunt and thus starve to death.

Alot of things people do aren't necessary. It's a hypocritical argument.
The manner in which they do it is economical to them. If you killed 50 seals it'd cost you $20 in ammo to do it with a .45 caliber hand gun. If you club them to death it costs you a little effort. Cutting their throats is no better than clubbing them in the head in my opinion. Just as barbaric in style, although economical.

I've seen it because i lived in the Middle East for a few years and they believe in eating freshly slaughtered animals and that is how they slaughter animals over there.
Cows and other animals don't have thick layers of blubber to conceal vitals is my point. It's a bit easier to slaughter a cow or other animal that have generally exposed throats.
I suppose it's no different shooting them. If the animal moves the shot could hit them in the face, and they would drown on their own blood and flesh. Kinda shitty either way you go. I suppose they could euthanize the animals with darts. They are reusable, and the sodium penathol isn't that expensive.
Don't get me wrong. I've never knowingly utilized a seal product. So if they stopped clubbing seals tomorrow it wouldn't bother me one bit.
I personally also find fur coats to be tacky. I think if you can't get the fur from the animal yourself you shouldn't be allowed to wear it. If you take on a Tiger with a knife, and lived, then you've earned the right to wear it's fur. That should cut down on the amount of fur worn, haha.

I celebrate every sealer's death with a beer. So that was three beers for me. The good news of their deaths was overwhelming. It was hilarious to hear they drowned. Hopefully it took a long time for them to die and they were screaming in fear. There should be a worldwide celebration every time a canadian sealer dies, or maybe gets a stroke or loses a limb. By the way, in a french documentary about seal hunting, they managed to observe a group of animal activists that found a suffering seal that hadnt been killed properly.
Instead of ending the animal's life and sufferings which would have been the best thing to do, they took out their equipment and prepared a photo shoot with the dying animal.
After 2Hours, the animal was then abandonned on the ice, still alive before finally getting killed by a hunter that passed by.

That makes over 15K seals that died in '06 like this baby seal would have were it not for IFAW putting it out of its misery days before it would have starved to death. The video was key in providing evidence to the court of public opinion that saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of seals, if not millions. Whose worse in this case?? Pfft!

Just search for documentation and try learning about the hunter's point of view before condemning them and treating them like you all are. So many are against the war in iraq because they refused to follow the government that was telling them they were doing something right. For your Informations, these seals are moving after being hit because of the reflex system of the brain. They are NO LONGER ALIVE and are not tortured like you all seem to think. When you cut a chicken's head off it keeps moving, the SAME is happening here. You can be against hunting and I respect that, but these hunters are NOT doing anything more crual than any other hunter. Hitting a seal with a club is actually the faster and less painfull way to kill these animals.

The video Inuit Hunter Code clearly shows seals remaining conscious and struggling while being dragged with a hakapik. Also, there are videos showing seals still following movement with their eyes after being dismissed as dead.

No doubt you site the Daoust report. If you read the EFSA report it says, "These observations and interpretations by Daoust et al. (2002) have been claimed by some to indicate that 98% of all harp seals are killed in an acceptably humane manner. Such an interpretation does not represent what Daoust et al. (2002) actually wrote."

Studies on this are just as ambiguous as the hunt itself. The Burdon study (2001) showed that 42% of the time unconsciousness was inconclusive. It's for this very reason that the EU found enough lack of reliability in any killing method used in the seal hunt. The EFSA was not a study that set out to determine whether or not the hunt was humane. It studied the effectiveness of the different hunt methods. The decision of "humane" or not was left up to the EU parliament. The reached their decision

Ample video and still photo evidence merely corroborates the DFO's own statistic that in 2007 only 4% of the edible biomass generated by the hunt was eventually sold as "meat". This included "seal oil pills".

It doesn't. What the DFO's own statistics prove is how wasteful the seal hunt is. Now that you know of the DFO figure that only 4% of the edible biomass is eaten we know that the videos and pictures are no spin-work by the activist group. It's real.
Although skinning of conscious seals may occur in isolated cases, I never claimed this is an epidemic in the industry. There are many that maintain it is though.

I hope the DFO stat on 4% of the seal meat being eaten clears up any ambiguity as to the differences between a "bow" subsistence hunt and the seal slaughter. The hunt isn't even a hunt. It's a slaughter. Again, a child could do it.

The truly ridiculous part of this is that approximately 7% of the seals are "stuck and lost" according to a third party European study undertaken by a group of veterinarians in 2007. They are whacked once and then escape into the water to either die a prolonged and miserable death or drown or continue to live but are unable to hunt and thus starve to death.

They use the the meat as well, they sometimes leave dead seals on the ice for the wild life to absorb. Remember, they're not in a slaughter-house where every animal is owned by a company and killed, the hunters are taking the seals straight from their natural habitat.
They take the skin from every animal they kill, because the predators don't need seal skin, only the meat to survive. Ever eaten seal flipper pie? It's delish!

Have you ever seen the slaughter of animals? Often times it's far from quick and clean.
It's a grim reality of life. As it becomes detached from societal need it will become more macabre. It is the general progression of luxury and lax responsibility. Our generation doesn't have to raise chickens for food. Previous ones did, and were exposed to it.
Reduce the demand for seal, and the hunts will stop. Liberals / activists like to do things backwards and it often yields zero response.

Alot of things people do aren't necessary. It's a hypocritical argument.
The manner in which they do it is economical to them. If you killed 50 seals it'd cost you $20 in ammo to do it with a .45 caliber hand gun. If you club them to death it costs you a little effort. Cutting their throats is no better than clubbing them in the head in my opinion. Just as barbaric in style, although economical.

Cows and other animals don't have thick layers of blubber to conceal vitals is my point. It's a bit easier to slaughter a cow or other animal that have generally exposed throats.
I suppose it's no different shooting them. If the animal moves the shot could hit them in the face, and they would drown on their own blood and flesh. Kinda shitty either way you go. I suppose they could euthanize the animals with darts. They are reusable, and the sodium penathol isn't that expensive.

Don't get me wrong. I've never knowingly utilized a seal product. So if they stopped clubbing seals tomorrow it wouldn't bother me one bit.
I personally also find fur coats to be tacky. I think if you can't get the fur from the animal yourself you shouldn't be allowed to wear it. If you take on a Tiger with a knife, and lived, then you've earned the right to wear it's fur. That should cut down on the amount of fur worn, haha.

I celebrate every sealer's death with a beer. So that was three beers for me. The good news of their deaths was overwhelming. It was hilarious to hear they drowned. Hopefully it took a long time for them to die and they were screaming in fear. There should be a worldwide celebration every time a canadian sealer dies, or maybe gets a stroke or loses a limb. It is good news for mankind.

What would be even funnier is when nuclear nations of the world become convinced that the brain dead Newfoundlanders or other canadian east coast worthless towns that murder seals are terrorists, and a few of those countries dropped nukes on those canadian terrorists. The screaming dying and radiation poisoning and sheer agony of those canadian terrorists would be fun to watch. I would be there with a camera to watch the canadians glow while they die :)

I love it when Canadian seal murderers die. It was so funny to read about three of them recently drowning after their boat capsized. Just imagining them gasping for air and getting lungfuls of salt water instead just made me laugh all day. I wish their death was slow, terrifying and agonizing, and that their families cried.

i was just looking at it on skynews. they run around as fast as they can trying to kill them as quick as possible. some high profile people go every year to witness it so they can report what's happening. that way we can't just say they're just some group making an invalid point. this is the way it happens. thats why europe is proposing a ban on all imports related to the canadian seal hunt.
the hunters cant be compared to the Inuit who only hunt what they need and dont let anything go to waste
