Nice video, but you guys are largely illiterate when it comes to this church. Fact of the matter is it had been abandoned for almost a century until the night before the city fell to Mehmet the Conqueror. It was reopened for one night in a joint (not an Orthodox) service so that Catholics and Orthodox could pray together.
....It is not a museum as Turks want to call it . IT IS A MONUMENT. Constantinople is greek.. It doesn't matter how those mongolian barbarians want to name it..It is Constantinople, it is the city of Constantine, it is rightfully greek.
@Komnenit Constantinople was not just Greek.. And Emperor Constantine was not Greek. He was Roman. There is a difference between the two. Constantinople was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, and all the Greek influences don't make exclusively Greek.

By the time of Justinian greek was the official language instead of Latin and by 1054, the greek nature of the Empire was reinforced by the great Schysm between catholic and orthodox churches.
What began as the eastern part of rome evolved into a Greek medieval Empire with greek culture and greek languages.

What I mean to say is, the Romans preferred the Greek language, they also took Greek names but can you really say that because the eastern roman empire adopted another official language, they are no longer Roman? no. More so, the question of culture is really leery. How can you say that the Romans adopted Greek culture, when it could have been the other way around?

Some people think that the trinity is an additional information that Christianity possesses along with the facts that Jews and Muslims know too (that God is one, eternal etc). This is wrong however. All christian writers say that not accepting the trinity (ie that God has a Son and a Spirit) is the same as not believing in God at all (1 John,2:23)

Do not insult the Orthodox Faith by placing it in the same light as Islam. Islam is the most Barbaric Religion of all time. Read the book " The Sword of the Prophet" by Serge Trifkovic and you will be shocked by what you read. He exposes Islam for what it is and its false prophet for who he really was. Did you know that the capital of Ottomans, Constantinople housed more non-muslims (jews, christians, etc) than muslims (or the numbers were close to each other)? When the Ottomans took over Turkey, Mehmed the conquerer removed the remains of the church and built a mosque of comparable magnificence on the site!

Fact of the matter is it had been abandoned for almost a century until the night before the city fell to Mehmet the Conqueror. It was reopened for one night in a joint (not an Orthodox) service so that Catholics and Orthodox could pray together.

By the time of Justinian greek was the official language instead of Latin and by 1054, the greek nature of the Empire was reinforced by the great Schysm between catholic and orthodox churches.
What began as the eastern part of rome evolved into a Greek medieval Empire with greek culture and greek languages.

What I mean to say is, the Romans preferred the Greek language, they also took Greek names but can you really say that because the eastern roman empire adopted another official language, they are no longer Roman? no. More so, the question of culture is really leery. How can you say that the Romans adopted Greek culture, when it could have been the other way around?

Some people think that the trinity is an additional information that Christianity possesses along with the facts that Jews and Muslims know too (that God is one, eternal etc). This is wrong however. All christian writers say that not accepting the trinity (ie that God has a Son and a Spirit) is the same as not believing in God at all (1 John,2:23)

Something has to be said here. I have read the comments and I have to say Muslims and Christians have to hang their heads in shame, both. The arguing about Constantinople is just plain silly. Nothing represents deviations of both christian and Muslim faiths, than this endless bickering and hate between Greeks and Turks. God Demands compassion and loving kindness and not arrogant boasts and conquest.

@AnRICK8 Hagia Sofia transformed to mosque after the fall of Constantinople and the turks vandalize the wall pictures. All christian churches and monasteries were vandalized or destoyed in Turkey.

@kahraman I don't mean to butt in but I think you just gave me the answer to what happened to The Church of the Holy Apostles! It became a ruin since the fourth crusade! When the Ottomans took over Turkey, Mehmed the conquerer removed the remains of the church and built a mosque of comparable magnificence on the site!

@kahvevotka well of course Turkey is taking good care fo Agia Sophia.. its a historic land mark and Ancient Megastructure that must be preserved because it is Ancient... who ever has control of Agia Sophia has no choice but to protect it.. its just that special... Deep down, in Agia Sophia's heart, the blood and sweat that built this Megastructure is Greek. Nothing can change that.

@mandrazher It's a prophecy of Elder Paisios (died in 1994) which was given in incredible detail. It kind of fills up the prophecy of Kosmas the aetolian who lived during the 1700's when Greece were under ottoman emprire. The surprising is that reading Elder Paisios prophecies is like reading today's newspapers.

@mandrazher realistically. no.. As much as we'd like for this to happen, the time when countries conquered other countries for sheer territory is long past. Not unless there is a huge drop in world order and new countries are formed. Maybe in a post apocalyptic world Constantinople will return to Greece. But I don't see it in this world.

1. For at list 700 years Turkey tried to conquer my nation alone, not to mention the rest of the nations in the area, and failed. Sometimes Turkey failed with 30 to 1 soldiers on battlefield, like the battles of Targoviste , where Vlad Dracula impaled almost 40 000 jenissary's in front of the city in 1 day.
2. The wars when the numbers of soldiers counted are long gone,ask China .. :)

I didin´t say that our prophet was a turk. If he say "my nation" that means "my islamic nation", because Islam never looks to the race, color or gender of its believers. So that means that all muslims are one nation and that is the spirit of Caliphat.
