i don't think anybody beats shawn personally, but i think guthrie govan, buckethead, and kik loureiro are the closest. guthrie is THE improv king and highly technical and versatile, buckethead is the creativity king coming out with at least 4 albums a year, none sounding like one before it, plus work with others and has well over 20 genres of music under his belt, and kiko is also extremely versatile and creative, and is the one that has the best band work out of the 3 by far.

He's very good but no better than 1000's of other guitarist out there. I know 18 year old kids who just play for fun in their basement who are this good.

the guy is skilled but lots of people can play like that. Plus, people were getting the same sound 40 years ago, maybe without the speed and the tapping..... You can be a lot more unique if you dont just shred IMO. I think note choice is important.
