I'm only on season 5 at the moment, but the idea of the Doctor being in love with Seven is dropped?? Wtf! First they drop the idea of Janeway/Chakotay and then the Doctor/Seven. Seriously, Voyager writers. What the fuck u doin?

Pairing her with Chakotay (when they had shown no indication of mutual attraction only a few episodes previously) was a total waste of years of character development :(

@Carnage1235 That's one way of looking at it - but, then again, it's fully understandable to be totally shocked and stunned and completely panicky when a hot chick goes all full-out "experimenting" on him. After all, it's not everyday that that happens - riiiiiight? What?! I'm just saying! And, hey, it could've blossomed into love if there was just a real and authentic chance!
"Jo" is the name he settled on according to the final episode. He's also been called "Schmutz" by a colony of Videans who he helped slow the effects of Phage.
Aside from the fact that I'd jump 7of9's bones in a hearbeat...isn't it funny how much of our pop culture comes from the Star Trek series in all of it's variations?
I keep on watching this clip. It's probably like the twentieth time I've seen it and it never gets old!
If they ever make a movie, I think that the Doctor should really be married (or romantically enagaged) with Seven.
Maybe there might be a fanon book which goes on to their relationship - I hope there is, and if anyone knows of one, please, let me know... thanks, and thanks for posting this video...
It's not actually Jeri Ryan singing as far as I can hear, she's just lip syncing in those few seconds where they even film her. It's a great clip though.
It is Jeri Ryan singing, it's not added in post-production, she has beautiful voice and showed that in other movies, you can find other clips on YouTube where she is singing amazingly
you are wrong. Jeri is excelent singer. I recomend to you her version of Amazing Grace...She aslo perfomed some singing when she took part at America Miss
Janeway/Chakotay and Doctor/Seven were my two fave pairings in Voyager! And then Chakotay/Seven (so stupid and pointless) ruined BOTH ships with one horrible stone!!!
chakotay/janeway is great yes, but doctor and seven have conflicting personalities. they might get along as friends but they'd probably end up hating each other if they tried anything romantic.
Best characters on the show. Who gives a shit about the rest? I don't mean to sound like a douche but what did the other characters ever do except maybe for Janeway and Tuvok. Bunch of unlikable people with no development.
If you don't see how they resolve The Doctor and Seven's romance you're blind. Watch "Someone to Watch Over Me" Watch "Renaissance Man"
And if you don't see the budding romance between Seven and Chakotay, you're more blind. Remember Chakotay was the one who actually severed her from the collective. Watch "Survival Instincts" Watch "Human Error"
I think you are looking for signs of a relationship after finding out that that he killed himself over her.
"Someone to watch over me" didn't do anything of the sort. Don't you think it's a bit odd that the Doctor didn't even seem to care about Seven dying in the final episode? What, did he just forget the feelings he had for her? The writers sure did, I know that much.
To your first comment about Chakotay and Seven, there's an entire episode about Seven creating holodeck programs in which she and Chakotay are in a relationship. It's obvious she has an interest in him in many episodes in the final season. Oh and he doesn't kill himself. He dies of grief.
As for the doctor and Seven, as you can see in Someone to watch over me, he decides that she needs him in only the capacity of friendship. He gives it up, though later admits that he still has feelings.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have not seen the final episode in some time, so I was a bit fuzzy on the details. Having said that though, you inadvertently reinforced my beliefs on Voyager.
That ending, where Chakotay dies from grief over her death, is COMPLETELY inplausible. You know as well as I how they portrayed the character- a strong, proud warrior who was in tune with his heritage and culture. And yet, he dies from grief?
He NEVER showed the kind of emotion that would even remotely suggest he was capable of just shutting down and dying like that.
The irrational one here was Seven. She had the dysfunctional personality, because she was disconnected from the collective. Wouldn't it be more likely that she would be the one who died from grief? My problem, and these comments prove it, is that a great number of fans felt like the storylines in the final episode came out of left field. The writers disregarded..
The doctor didn't disregard Seven's death; he handled it with the professional detachment of a doctor. That's his programming. But you're missing the point. Seven doesn't actually die in the final episode. You see the doctor nearly 10 years after Seven's death. He's had time to cope with the loss. In the past of the episode, he hears that she MAY die if they stay. We never actually see the events immediately surrounding her death. Maybe the doctor did have a lot of trouble with it.
who the characters were. Chakotay wouldn't have died like that- I know it. he was too spiritually balanced.
The doctor is the same way- the feelings he showed for Seven were real, even if she didn't reciprocate. And yet, he had a complete disregard for her death in the final episode. Doesn't matter how she felt about him. This scene shows a very real connection that the Doctor had for Seven. It doesn't go away just because she turns him down. The writers forgot that.
You're looking at the characters as if they're caricatures. In Voyager, this isn't the case. Yes, Chakotay was very spiritual, etc., but he was also extremely sensitive. Women have always been his weakness. Think about Ceska, think about after he was abandoned on the planet with Janeway, and when he fell in love with the woman from the xenophobic society.
Maybe Seven would have died of grief if she wasn't killed off. Who knows.
All that said, I understand what you're saying about the final episode feeling a bit rushed or contrived. But you have to look at it from the perspective of the opening: Janeway 33 years in the future. A lot has changed since the penultimate episode of the series. The characters have changed, especially Janeway. You would never describe her as a pragmatist, but that's who she became. Chakotay would have changed, too. But all the seeds are there; it's all plausible, likely even.
@suinemenius don't mean to be argumentative, but it occurs to me that the Doctor was a hologram and had the ability to switch his balls off... i mean his 'emotions' ...lucky guy.
@suinemenius I want to tell you I agree with you. While Beltran said it poorly, it is true that the writers just didn't care towards the end.
Oh, and Seven/Chakotay was Mulgrew's (Janeway) idea as a way to cement that, in her mind, Chakotay and she were never going to get together. She had this thing with ship busting. It's reasons like this that I don't absolve her of Janeway's problems as a character.
Wait a minute... They never say he dies of grief. In fact, I think he died slightly less than 4 years before their ten-year reunion. Remember that Harry had been on a 4-year away mission and he apologized to Admiral Janeway for missing "the funeral?" They don't specify that it was Chakotay's, but I think it's implied....besides, if he had died on Voyager they would have committed his body to space rather than bury him (and Janeway visited his grave).
They sing so beautifully together...they should have totally recorded a CD together. They do wonderful harmony, and I'm very picky about good harmonization.
The Doctor has always been my favorite character from that show, and possibly all of Star Trek. I didn't like Seven at first but she grew on me. At first it bothered me how she was basically going through teen angst early on, but she eventually grew out of it. I suppose its to be expected since she had a delayed childhood and never became an adult human until her time on Voyager. It is indeed a shame the romance between the two characters was never explored.
I've only just started watching Voyager through and so far this is also MY favourite moment... that little moment of realization by the Doctor is just magical acting. I already know their 'romance' will go nowhere, which is a shame since it has so much potential and could easily have been the highlight of the show. Instead (at the risk of bringing in another show!), I am reminded of Babylon 5's tragic line "All love is unrequited" when I see the Doctor and Seven.
This definately has to be one of my favorite scenes in all of Star Trek too. Saw this episode a few days ago and I Just had to see this scene again. It's just brilliant. These are two of my favorite characters as well. Really fantastic acting here. Especially Robert Picardo. He really made the Doctor a great character throughout the show. I really wish they had gone somewhere with this. It really is dissapointing. It had so much potential. Shame.
"The writers clearly wanted to show that The Doctor had romantic intentions with Seven, and it's played brilliantly by Robert Picardo. Notice how he just stops for a moment and watches her sing.. it's as if that's the precise moment he realizes that he's falling in love with her."
EX-ACTLY! Well-said ... I've thought precisely the same for years.
how awsome is jeri ryans voice i saw her do a bit of singing in boston public i think...oh an i wanna say th*@%...arg....We are the Borg You will be Assimilated your technological and biological distinktivnes would be added to our own you will adapt to service us RESISTENCE IS FUTLIE
I always liked this scene is is certainly in my top 10 scenes from Voyager. You also make some really good points about the writing; characters, story arcs, etc in your description.
my sister sang this to her daughter when she was little. She grew up with many problems to face and now I am far from her. I hear this song and it 's like a journey back and reminds me of how close we were. It always makes me cry.
I think a lot of us parents sing this to our children. I can remember singing this to my daughter, who as a baby, cried like a baby, all the time it seems.
Sometimes it worked! That's why I LOVE this little song.

At first it bothered me how she was basically going through teen angst early on, but she eventually grew out of it. I suppose its to be expected since she had a delayed childhood and never became an adult human until her time on Voyager. It is indeed a shame the romance between the two characters was never explored.

indeed i love doctor AND STAR TREK HERE! HERE!

You should watch better, I just finished watching Voyager entirely (again) and there definetely is a multi-episode spanning here.

Shame.

A lot of people don't know that this song is actually a 1930's election song.
Otaku155 2 years ago
Wow, I can believe that she can sing, but the EMH? He has a really good voice!

I couldn't agree more with the authors comments. The scene is perfect and a shame that it wasn't pursued.

Kudos to you 1126tmp, you took the words right out of my mouth and probably speak the thoughts of many other Star Trek fans as well.
With all of their alternate realities,

Thank you Pallindrom27, and a very nice comment, a very sad road not traveled.

Seven totally ended up with the wrong guy in the end. Definitely should have been her and Doc.

i dont think the doctor had feelings for her. i think he was just proud of her. like a father daughter thing, watching her develop.
jamy30 2 years ago
Well in the end he was practicing giving her roses and admitting his affection towards her. I thought that was a pretty good sign. :P

She is already very fully developed.

"Great actors, great writing (sometimes) but absolutely no vision for the characters and no story arcs to speak of."
This is what separates TNG from all other Star Trek shows. The characters were well-defined and almost every possible direction was explored.
There were so many interesting possibilities with Voyager but they were never fleshed out.

I've thought precisely the same for years.

duh xD It would poke your eye if they had made it more obvious :P
This episode kinda sticks out. It's by far one of the best star trek episodes. Very memorable like "Lower decks" with Sito Jaxa

Hehe I just saw this scene awhile ago, checked youtube and voula someone posted it.
Good scene, I'm not sure about the whole love fantasy though, in my opinion The Doctor was admiring her singing.

my sister sang this to her daughter when she was little.
