@TheUkitake13 i live in MI as well, but i am rather put off by the fact that our song sounds like a knock-off. CO gets John Denver for crying out loud! :( oh well
maryland my maryland. repel the northern scum, o maryland my maryland. the despot's heel on our shores, o maryland my maryland. do not let virgiania fall in vain maryland my maryland. kinda our song first, since we were one of the origianl 13.....
This is the old tune. A new tune was written in the early 20th century, when the original words were changed - and that's the version that's usually taught in schools. I remember learning it in third grade. But the only *official* anthem is "My Michigan*, which was adopted in 1937. That one is also posted here on YouTube, but harder to find.
Seems that this tune is quite popular. It is the tune to "O Christmas Tree", "Maryland, My Maryland", "Tannenbaum", the Iowa state song, and "Michigan, My Michigan".
This is "Maryland, My Maryland" not "Michigan, My Michigan." Originally, both state anthems used the tune "O Tannebaum" (in English, "O Christmas Tree"); but a new, original tune was written for "Michigan, My Michigan" when the original lyrics, written in the 19th century, were revised in 1907.
In 1937, however, the State of Michigan made the song "My Michigan" the official anthem - but nobody ever sings that song; they all sing "Michigan, My Michigan" - but to the 1907 tune, *not* this one.
Not just Maryland and Michigan have this same tune, so does the state of Iowa...I don't know what made Iowa, Maryland and Michigan to use O Tannebaum or O' Christmas Tree as the music for there state songs...lol wierd.
MSU, oh, MSU, how awesome are your ball teams....

This is a very nice anthem, I'm doing a powerpoint on Michigan, and I didn't think that the song would go so great with the powerpoint. :)
