I love this so much.... this is exactly I needed to hear. "So I'm slow for my age, a late bloomer, okay I agree!" I was wondering who is singing this version?
Just heard this song in the new Aladdin adaption musical at the 5th Avenue theatre in Seattle. I fell in love with it. Thank You for uploading this!!! :)
@btrjonasfan101 because in the original story aladdin has a mother but when the disney team rescripted the story they got rid of the mother, and so the song did not make sense
@StephiGereRothThyne Thank you! Latest reply ever, but I often forget to reply to my youtube comments. I read them all though :-). I just love this song. So touching :-)
What a beautiful song! I'm not sure if it's better than A Whole New World but I prefer to all of the other songs in the film, and that is saying a lot. At least we still have the song.
Watching the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty. In one of the deleted scenes, they say that people believe that Howard Ashman wrote it as an autobiographical song to his mother. They cut the entire mother sub-plot (and consequently, this song) just before Howard died from AIDS.
I personally think they should have kept both Aladdin's mother and this song in the film. But on the other hand, Aladdin being without parents are making the movie what it is.. :I I don't know what to think! D:
This is really good, must have been hard work to search for clips that fit and put them together, in some scenes it almost looks as if they were made for that song. Great job!

I'm actually glad they took this out. If this were in the movie, it'd probably be my least favorite. And obviously, they movie managed just fine without it.
It's right before Jafar (in his old creepy man disguise) tells Aladdin about the lamp and has him go to the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin is sitting next to his sleeping mother while singing this song. You can see the old storyboard on the 2 Disc DVD behind the scenes footage. It's really cute. :)
Oh, that's what you meant! Well, this song was supposed to be in the movie, but they decided to cut it when they cut Aladdins mother from the movie. (It didn't make a whole lot of sense anymore to keep it in when they did that). I absolutely love this song though and wish it had been in there somehow!
This version is sung by Clay Aiken and so it's no wonder it doesn't sound like Aladdin from the movie at all ;-)
I think they do that a lot actually. Loads of stuff doesn't make it into the final movie. Usually for the better. I really do like this song though. I'm glad it was still on the Aladdin dvd so people can still enjoy it. I think that this song and 'I'm odd' from Alice in Wonderland are my two favorite cut songs (Disney wise that is ;-) ).
Apparantly they were going to use a song called 'dancing to the wedding drum'. It sounds a bit like 'steady as the beating drum' which they did use. You can find it somewhere on youtube too, I think. (Isn't youtube great ;-) )
Ah, I've been replying so late lately! I got the footage from my dvd. (a friend who actually knows computers helped me out) and I use windows movie maker.
great! that was gorgeous. i put it in my favs a playlist and five strs. it was beautiful. and i remember this song, i sometimes wish that it had been in the movie, then again, they would have had to have the mother. unless he had a father. hehehe awkward.
Thank you! This song is probably one of the best Disney songs ever written, but yes Aladdin having a mother wouldn't really have worked so I understand that it got cut. (but then again: how gorgeous is this song! lol)
thank you ^_^. First time I heard that song was the demoversion as well (on my Aladdin dvd) and I just thought: man, I wish that had been in the movie! lol. This version is sung by Clay Aiken.
I really liked the original idea of Aladdin's mother being in the movie. Too bad it was never offical

Why did you have to use Clay Aiken's version? Alan Menken's version is so much better!

This reminds me of Part of Your World. It makes sense to cut it given the changes to the plot but it's actually one of the pretty good "cut songs".
