  • But a question example if you get some filter media of your neightbour and his fishes are sick and you sqeeuze his sponge in your filter you wont get the sick ?

  • @spongeex get from a healthy and alive tank

  • @asiandude666 ok but i want a good cycle and a fast cycle no medicals like aquasafe or life bacteria all they are expensive etc Just borrow some filter media and than 1 week cycling ?

  • @spongeex yes..you just use mature media from a healthy tank and use that in the new filter. Run for a few hour then add a few fish each week.

I usually add plants with it to help with nitrate too.

  • What fish do you use when you do this??:)

  • @pearsonshawn you can addy hardy fish such as guppy, danioi, betta, cory.

  • Will it still work if you have another tank that is heated, and you put that filter sponge in a freshwater tank???

  • @pearsonshawn yes! just make sure to run the filter for 1 hour and add fish. I usually add fish right away anway.

  • I put my fish in 5 days after putting the water in. Only my freshwater shrimp didn't survive the others (8 pristella's, 8 pigmi corrydoras and one electric blue ramirezi) did fine. In America everyone is somehow crazy about cycling it though :P. the thing I did was, feed them small amounts (still do that) and I have a lot of real plants, not those ugly fake ones :). My friend has also had multiple aquariums and has always put the fish in after a week. the pet store also said this was fine :P.

  • @PluralP yes should be fine. I usually add them right away and do waterchange and feed little.

Shrimp needs a bit more of a mature tank that has been running for a while.

  • You don't need to cycle a tank at all, just put fish in, feed and do water changes. The tank will cycle automatically in 1-2 weeks or shorter.

  • @espirates2 u need to research more

  • @espirates2 lol my god. yeah you actually do need to cycle a fish tank, to allow the ammonia and nitrates to come to a controlled level. duhrrrrr

  • @TheHobdenMarina instant cycle? it is already cycle with the old media in it. Please do some research and backup your claim.

I have done this many many times and lost no fish and many others have done it successfully!

  • @asiandude666 My reseach is done buddy, I work at a marine store lol for 6 years. Your can instantly cycle like this, but its not a proper way, your ammonia and nitrates can spike (I've seen it happen many times) Now just to clarify I am not saying you are wrong just impatient. With fish tanks patience is a virtue, and it is always best to let your tanks do this naturally.

  • @TheHobdenMarina I have stated in the video and comment that adding a couple of fish is good. If you don't do this, the whole point of seeding/instant cycle is pointless and this video is a fail. You won't want to add a large amount of fish right way and spike the tank.

  • @asiandude666 also fyi I would never ever do a saltwater tank like this lol. just saying.

  • @TheHobdenMarina no you won't

  • @asiandude666 again I'm just speaking from my own experiences with customers trying this on the past 6 years. It's just not the "best" way. That's all but there is times whrn it works

  • Once you see algae add fish

Because you can't get algae without a complete nitrogen cycle.

  • @fishaddict1000 never heard that one before

  • Leaving the sponge full of bacteria alone for a weak will ensure the death of the bacteria. No ammonia source=dead bacteria. So i would add some fish immediately.

  • @friedsausagerollz Yes. ..my point exactly! That is what I am pointing out in the video and trying to tell everyone.

    :)

  • No I understand it perfectly. It does work you are correct. I'm just sayin that it only builds up a small colony. Just sayin to be care full not to put in to many fish at once-due to the small colony your ammonia will skyrocket.

  • @z90a2012 Yes. You define it well.

I don't want people to have a misconceptions that they MUST run it for 2 week or more. If this is the case....your bacteria is already after 24 hour because of starvation. This is why I tell people to put some fish in after a few hour to help keep it stable.

  • This takes a week to do. So it's not instant. To be safe you should fishless cycle your tanks which does take 2-6 weeks. But add the sponge or used filter cartilage to your filter. This will take about 1-2 weeks. But it will build up a bigger colony.

  • @z90a2012 im sorry if u didn't understand my video and the concept of instand cycle.

  • I have done this and it worked also the water does , but not as well.

  • @ARCsvideos the old water helps feed the bacteria a bit but not that much . Old water from other tank should be use only if you attempt to put the fish into that tank later on.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know someone use my vid.

  • the word instant means it happens straight away not 2 weeks later lol it doesn't take 3-4 months to cycle a freshwater tank it takes roughly 2 weeks

just puting an old filter sponge in a tank will not cycle it as the bacteria will need to be fed to multiply to your new filter

a better way would be to put that sponge in your new filter and feed the empty tank a few flakes per day for a week then it will be cycled

or do a water change in your other tank and put that water into your new tank

  • @martyb0y1690 i did say that run it for couple hour in my video and Yes you can put fish right away in the tank without any problem. 100% tested by me..if i did this and lost all my fish then I would have not post this video.

Putting old water into another tank is not very helpful as you'r just using waste water that has not much bacteria...it's only useful if you have sick fish from that tank water then you can use the old water.

  • @asiandude666 waste water feeds the bacteria and helps quickly establish a colony in a new filter the way you have done it is a watse of time you would be aswell cycling the tank with a hardy fish

  • @martyb0y1690 i know what you mean...+5

  • dude u need to use it with a filter to seed the bacteria to the filter. It takes about 2-3 using this method of a sponge.

  • @JUNAID187 didn't i state that in the video? 100% sure I say run it with your fitler
