Maybe this is just because I'm reading it in school right now, but I feel like this song was inspired by the character Piggy from Lord of the Flies. If you read the book the lyrics relate to him a lot.

this song IS amazing- truly, they ALL are. Im going to see cornell solo at the Orange Peel tonite in Asheville NC. HE is the common link between the AWESOMENESS of Audioslave, Soundgarden, AND Temple of the Dog. Make no mistake folks, He's bad. Writting music, AND crushing lyrics. Do your homework. look at the similarities between all of his work over his LONG and PROFFITABLE career. The proof is in the facts. Not to take any credit from Rage, not at all. Cornell was the boss!

compare soundgarden riffs to audioslave riffs. i would actually want to sit down and learn a soundgarden riff, so much more creativity in soundgarden. when i hear an audioslave riff i already know exactly what is being played. dont get me wrong both bands are definitely on my top 5. audioslave holds down a simple riff so cornell can rock the mic. thats fine. most of morello's solos are more like lets see what wierd sounds he can make and how fast hel play them. its just my opinion or course..
@ploxer22 I don't think I can absolutely agree with you. Soundgarden riffs are the ones that are all generic. Simple rock chords. Morello isn't just a noise maker, he's an electronic genius. I highly doubt you listen to him and can pick up a guitar and play what he's playing. I agree that his solos aren't right for the band, but he worked on that later on in the band. Cornell was the shining star of soundgarden. Audioslave..... everybody was a superstar.
@kjrock2 Except that you're completely wrong because Soundgarden had all 4 members writing songs and contributing pretty much evenly. Audioslave was almost all Chris Cornell. Soundgarden is about a million times better than Audioslave..How can you say the other members of Soundgarden weren't important? They were all more talented than Rage.
@vcough... Chris Cornell had nothing to do with the music written. Are you telling me that the band from Rage wrote music just like they've been playing for 20 yrs+ b/c Chris Cornell told them to? Sound Garden was good... but doesnt even compare... in talent or creativity.. or in achievements. I mean.. look.. Audioslave was together for how long... 6 - 7 yrs? They accomplished so much.. including being the only US rock band to ROCK Cuba's face off. The boys from SG could never write like A.S.
it doesn't matter where he is. He still writes and composes incredibly, and has theeeee sexiest voice in rock and roll.....or blues......or..whatever!
@ploxer22 One really has to wonder about the ego of someone that would call Tom Morello's riffs "cheesy"! By the time his solo hits the high chord he practically has you begging for it. Both he and Kim Thayil are amazing. In the careers of these 2 careers the word "cheesy" is nowhere insight. And CC sings this song with so much raw feeling and intensity that I'm spinning every time I hear it.
The beginning sounds like it should be the theme for a James Bond movie. Maybe they could make one entitled "Number One Zero" with this as the theme! That would kick ass!
Definitely one of my fav audioslave songs. its just amazing. I don't know why i like this one so much. I've always been mad about this song. although I think the lyrics could've been better, the song would kill you then.
This song is amazing. Just how they assembled it it starts slow and sleepy then builds and fuckin explodes like Hiroshima and calmy dies out. Just perfect.
asshole, how you can said something about Hiroshima, you are kidding with all of these poor people who died because the fucking yankees trowed that fucking bomb, i cant understand, stupid, STUPID
@scalandrum09 Do some research stupid ass. Dropping the Hiroshimo/Nagosaki bombs prevented MORE casualties. The Japanese Imprerialist enlisted EVERY citizen as a militant. That makes all of a Japan a viable target. One swift stroke to let them know that the Allied forces were superior. Do some research you ignorant e-thug.
Easily their best work. This song is an absolute gem, and a great indicator of what good songwriting really is. Possibly my favorite song of all time.
ok, yes someone finaly put this audio on the boards, an no, chris isnt what he was at the age of 20. But so the hell what he is still outstanding and if anyone wants to cry about it im sure we will see it in these posts later on or in other posts fro sound garden/audio slave. Anyways its friggen awsome so stfu and love it.
I don't think Cornell is any worse live than in Studio - He had a period of half a decade where his voice was iffy, but his voice has definetly returned recently, and it was great before the 3-4 year period, so he lost it for a bit and got it back.
He's just as great. Take most of the songs from Badmotorfinger/Ultra Mega Ok, look for live videos. Most of them are just as good if not better and stronger and nastier than the studio. That's probably why his voice was shot.. From overdoing it.
amanishoe, personally, I love their studio version better, actually! but that's just my humble opinion, no need to attack me for it, really! peace, andrea.
Ok... but the thing is, THERE IS NO OTHER VERSION than the album's, coz it has never been performed live on stage (to my knowledge) since i have every single song for the group.. :S
Oh, my mistake, armani, I had no idea. I meant, in general, I think Chris is better in studio than live. And I say this with all due respect... I don't have all their CD's yet... But i'll try to get them in the futurue. Thanks for the info though.
I am trying to like Audioslave because I like Chris Cornell's acoustic solo's so much....I hear talent in the songwriter, but don't like the song...I guess it's just not my flavor
Audioslave had the unfortunate task of trying to compete with what "music" had become by that point. The commercialized movement which proceeded the grunge era has evolved into a sick monster that tears good music apart at the joints and throws the pieces into "Exile."
Personally, I think today's popular music is a sad commentary in our history. How did 12-year-olds get the final say in what "good" music is? I'm glad they put out 3 studio albums. 3 more great ones for my collection!
Just when u think u left me blind i will be creepin right up behind cuz baby when i need to I will keep u in the corner of my EEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Solo is awesome along wit da heavy rift the entire song is haunting and vastly underated.
Like this song, Shadow on the Sun has nice parts and a sweet heavy part. Real emotional. Nothing Left to Say but Goodbye has a different vibe but is good too. Heaven's Dead is great, and you might want to check out Shape of Things to come too.
this song kicks huge ass. the slower part at the beginning gives me a boner, the kick-ass-mutherfucker-headbanger solo in the middle breaks my neck because I'm rocking out so hard to it, and then I get the boner back at the end. This song is Audioslave in a nutshell because it has the slow jamz in it and the rock out drive fast parts, like the many different sounds of the many different Audioslave hits.
it is classic. Blues-rock, sort of Zeppelinesque kind of thing. It is the best of Audioslave's songs.
ThePainbearer1 10 hours ago
I find in this song what Chris meant by "musical differences" with they split up.
That Tom Morello solo was completely out of its place.
It is on its own a good one, but withing this song it is horrible.
It is the worst part of one of Audioslaves' best.

does anyone know a similar song by audioslave?

Like this song, Shadow on the Sun has nice parts and a sweet heavy part. Real emotional. Nothing Left to Say but Goodbye has a different vibe but is good too. Heaven's Dead is great, and you might want to check out Shape of Things to come too.

right now the most similar song to this one would have to be "Broken City" imo

this song kicks huge ass. the slower part at the beginning gives me a boner, the kick-ass-mutherfucker-headbanger solo in the middle breaks my neck because I'm rocking out so hard to it, and then I get the boner back at the end. This song is Audioslave in a nutshell because it has the slow jamz in it and the rock out drive fast parts, like the many different sounds of the many different Audioslave hits.
