  • Wow! Had this 45 for years, but never seen this. Was this filmed at the Barbican??

  • @kdharrison yes, the Barbican on a very wet and windy day...

  • As soon as I heard this I knew it would come in handy some day.

Protest songs don't have to be shit!

  • Still have the single in its picture sleeve, and i lived in the Barbican for a year or so around this time! Never knew there was a video! Many thanks for uploading this!

  • I just found the 7" in a charity shop, to be frank it's fantastic.

  • a long way from Glass of Champage...... but still brill

  • DOMINO,was something to try!Had my way with that one.Back in 1980 or something.Benedicamus domino!

  • I love it i do when i discover a shiny new to me synth band:) excellent and stylish found you through elegant machinery another synth band who i adore. From the surrealist artist jasmine

  • R4949, are you at the Barbican in the second part? Thanks for uploading your work.

  • Ha, I bought this at the time. The cross-over between The Dooleys and The Human League Mk 2.

  • data we're amazing! they influenced many many bands along the years! this track and 'living inside me' are perfect elecropop masterpieces!

  • Amazing.... fantastic video and song. And they look super cool!

  • Thanks David R4949

You and Mr Kajanus have proved that the future happened 20 years ago.

    T x

  • Too kind, Timmy, but I think the whole scene was ahead of it's time - but that's a contradiction...

  • did you do this data one freind, fucking hell i used to go to a club called the harrington bar in liverpool, yhey used to play this, never knew a vid existed, nice one,

  • Data was ahead of it´s time. This is music I still listen to several times a month. It´s timeless! :)

  • Yep.... this sure pisses on Ladytron and Client!!

  • Fantastic. I love this song! I have the vinyl, where can I get this on CD/Download????? Itunes don't have it.

  • I've got the limited edition CD release of 'Opera Electronica'. Bought it off George Kajanus a few years back.

If you send me a PM on my YouTube Channel, i can upload an mp3 version of the album for you.

  • djbethell: I think they were more influenced by those 4 gentlemen aus Dusseldorf, who were influenced by russian artist El Lisitsky... Kraftwerkian style, not nazi... but that always seems to get confused, somehow..

  • An amazing song...

  • I love this song. One of my first 7" ever. Thanks for sharing.

  • How amazing were the girl's looks. There's so much reference to Nazi's in this style. I don't think we realized it at the time. Works perfect for this song.

  • Hallo!

    Vielen Dank

    Gerd Schwonke

  • Ahoy Gerd,

DATA only performed at the show "Musicbox" in Germany, but not in "Disco", as far as I know. I have the "Musicbox" video, but it's not on YouTube (yet) ;-)

  • George Kajanus, the guy, was not happy with the project DATA, just google on him and sailor to read it all. DATA did a great number of songs. Romy Haag is my favourite. There is a connection to Peter Godwin track Over 21, DATA did this as well. I love the 80's Synth new romantic groups.

Suggestions on vids to look for. hard corps, landscape, ymo, rational youth, ODW, tik & tok...

  • Dude, Romy Haag totally rocks! It's on my best pop songs ever top 10 list. Ein, zwei, drei, vier!

  • DATA were ten times a better group than Sailor. George Kajanus will realise that in years to come.

  • One of my favorites in the early eihgties!

I never thought to hear this again!

Many thanks for to put it here! Great!!

  • Legends. They deserved a bigger audience.

  • Awesome, what happened to these guys, one record on Sire is all I know about. Thanks

  • Wow, really amazing seeing this video for the first time. I remember this song very good from the vinyl record "Opera Electronica". Thank you so much for uploading this video.

  • Fantastic! I wasn't in the UK for most of the 80s, so I haven't seen this before. Thank heaven for YouTube, so I can catch up on great stuff like this that I missed!

  • Many thanks for this! What a cool video of this cool DATA song! Absolutely marvellous...

  • wow who ever made this must be a genius!!! x
