thnx. i have a test over vent setting and also a check off on monday. i never get enough time in lab-wish there was more equipment- and the textbook is the most confusing piece of literature i have ever seen. however this is very easy to understand and helpful for me! thnx again.
thank you sir a lot,it was very helpful i'm senior student in respiratory care (buffalo NY), you know what you should make a cd and sell this cd,all the thing we need, especially vent management, because we need more how we can manage the vent accordind to ABG,the ratio,, please give us more ,and thank you again

Mr Drifter, Wouldn't it be very good idea to mention what machine type you are using and to start from the start point of the machine until every body gets the idea of how to set the machine and how manipulate or adjust the machine settings according patient needs.
Just an opinion...
you did very good job on explaining the modes and types of ventilation.
I'm not a medical student, just interested in mechanical ventilation and intensive therapy, but I'm so grateful for your useful and easily understandable presentation!I think mechanical ventilation is an "art",it's not as much easy as it looks like...May be this sounds a bit stupidly, but I would be curious about what extubated patients tell about the weaning procedure.I mean it cannot be easy to syncronize their first hardly taken breaths with a machine, and the changing modes (AC,SIMV,then CPAP)
You are my HERO. I am PA new to a pulm/critical care group and I used to spend my days with this deer in headlights stare as people try to explain these topics in 10 seconds on the fly . . after about 500 dollars in books, countless hours of crapping my pants, these videos give me hope! Keep them coming!!!!
I have a question. my grandmother (faye howard) was on a ventilator, due to brain death. is it true that when a patient is brain dead, on ventilator system, they are illegally dead? or.. whats that mean? can you explain to me?
@drifter120 Thanks I'll be looking around for a simplified explanation of the waveforms because my MV instructor totally didn't even bother to teach in depth on waveforms. It was VERY lightly brushed over. Apparently, something this instructor does not have a high regard for in managing a patient on a vent (which she plainly stated). It's ridiculous since you need a good understanding to even pass the boards and for patient care. I have already seen it on the NBRC.org practice test.
I hate hearing that beeping. reminds me when my grandma was on a ventilator. the machine kept beeping. but she tragically died 5 days after I turned 20. 6.9.07. :(
thank you for presenting the mechanical ventilation modes in to the simplest way possible. pls make new videos for other students like myself to watch. once again outstanding video.
I really want to thank you this video cleared up all my questions that my textbok and 3hrs of lecture couldnt!!! NOw i am sure i will do way better on my test tomorrow!
Nice video. My daughter is in SIMV mode on her vent, when we took our training this video would have been really good to see. I know it can be very complicated for some people to learn, and this made it very easy to understand
thanks for making this simple. makes a world of difference, cant wait to apply this tomorrow at clinicals

I like the glove...will have to use one next time I am in a bind and can't find a test lung.

Nice demonstration of ventilator settings using a glove.
A bit confusing when you say the 'ventilator delivered a spontaneous breath.'

Peak and Plateau pressures can be explained in a discussion of waveforms. I plan to do this in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the video! What about bilevel ventilation? Can you do a video to help explain peak and plateau pressures?
sherm917 2 years ago
Oscillator would be a good topic.
Jeremy, I agree, that beeping sound is annoying, I can imagine how it must be for you, given your recent loss. Keep your head up.
