I admire James Polk. I wish we have candidates running for president who are as truthful and honest as James K. Polk was.
JKP listed 4 goals he set himself to accomplish in just 4 years: 1) lower tariffs; 2) re-establish the Treasury System; 3) annex the Oregon territory; and 4) acquire California, New Mexico, and Texas from Mexico. One might add the fifth: serve only one term.
True to his word, he achieved all of them in just 4 years. Indeed, an extremely rare feat.
Saw them last Friday in DC. Got in a car crash (not our fault (some dude decided to pass us on the left as we were making a left turn) right down the road from the 9:30 Club before the concert and totaled my car but I was able to catch the last 30 minutes with my daughter. We didn't miss Dr. Worm (which we sang nearly the entire 16 hour drive from Eastern Maine in order to see the concert). TMBG is now my daughter's (age 9) all time favorite band.
Ive always really liked this band ! I saw Them last night in Ithaca and it was great. A real smart move to do kids music , for them a natural progression (particle man ?) They will now have fans and work till they are 100 , Their management must be very happy
well, yes...and no: Millard Filmore fulfilled it...but at the time, people were thinking "Wow, JKP did a lot." they were wrong two presidents later...we got Hawaii...but that was not a state until about a hundred years later! i love history. let's go out sometime.
So THAT"S why Borders went out of buisness?

Young Hickory is the catch of the whole song. Polk followed in Andrew Jackson's footsteps. He was a blessing, but also a curse. Remember the Alamo!

this song is actually incorrect. Oregon wasn't all sold to us by the English; only split.

@Emimilykity try making that fit in with the song...plus Polk got exactly what he wanted
