I know this video is old now, but I have a 4870 with a jinxed heat sink fan and this heat sink you have in the video is the least expensive I can find. So I'm assuming it will work on a 4870 also?
@KuulabTK ??there is no coolant liquid inside? Every one knows that any gas filled heat pipes should be properly crimped before cutting or modding. I have been modding computer parts for years, all my stuff works perfect.
@Num1shark if you cut the heatpipe it doesnt work... do you even know how they work?? there is a water or some other liquid in them and when it evaporates it heats the other side so it MUST be closed
@error262 ...Just like I told the last guy, every time before I made a cut, the pipe was crimped and/or soldered. I'm getting tired of dumb comments, its not heart surgery, it all works perfect.
Hey! What do you think, would this cooler be sufficient for my toxic as well? Can't decide, maybe I should go for the twin turbo pro. Though I prefer passive cooling for lower noise level. What's your opinion?
@starsiegeplayer you use the stock cooler for the ram and the Accels1 cooler for the GPU. Just cut the stock cooler. Sorry this video is old and I guess no one got the point. I should make a new video
Just remove the card from the motherboard and clean it thoroughly of dust. My 2 year-old card was idling at 96 degrees -- at least 30 degrees higher than 2 years ago when it was first installed inside my p-c -- but once it had been cleaned and put back in the motherboard, and my p-c booted up, the idling temperature was 59 degrees, and it's been that figure now for a week. When the card's taxed, it doesn't go above 70 degrees C.
@FRURMELLL I try to be nice, sorry but this is a stupid comment. This mod is to show how the Accels cools the GPU and the stock heat sink cools the ram & voltage regulators. All you do is cut down the sock heat sink to fit around the Accels cooler (no need for the crap ram sinks included). Sorry but I'm a computer tech (what I do for a living) and I'm getting tired of explaining such a simple thing. prob why I haven't posted other simple mod videos on youtube or posted links to my web site.
@steveo13987 Well I guess if you don't work with computers that much or do much modding, this probably wouldn't make much since. To be honest, this is the BEST air cooling set up for this card you can do. The small video I made is 2 years old. But i guess I could make a new one, just to show people that don't understand. BTW I don't really need to show a temps, the idea is for you to try it for your self. My temps are even lower then the last time I made that video. GPU at load stays below 40C.
@BerlinerBretchenBude If you loooook, my set up has the original cooler, cooling the ram and voltage regulators. The Accels1 cooler, is only cooling the GPU. Its the best set up with out having to water cool.
i have a problem with my HD4850 where i have every day about 90-110 degrees Celsius and im worried that the graphic card will be fried and thats my problem where i play every game that i have and after few minutes it happens (computer noises when shuting down is like a vacuum cleaner which is really wierd, my PC is making such a wierd sounds i dont know what the problem
@AliRemix2009 It's probably the fan on the 4850 making that sound. If your card is running that high, you should turn up the fan speed using the ATI Catalyst control center. 70 to 80% fan speed should do the trick. The GPUs can stand a lot of heat, but can wear out quickly if not cooled properly.
@Num1shark thanks for the reply i really dont know how hot it was but when i used furmark extreme hot edition i reached almost about 130 degrees celsius!
@AliRemix2009 Take that bad boy out and hoover it loosen the screws that hold the plate all so..to see if the heat sink falls of if so bad heat sink...but prob just clogs of dust and stuff in there..i was pulling fur balls out by 6-12 months
I recc to unplug computer or if u have a switcher behind to switch it off and then press Power button to discharge the computer at all(if u unplugged computer it will not start). That's the way I use, but u can buy and item for that I don't remember how it's called but it's a wire that connects 2 metals...
I was using the fan fix, but it was far too loud on my Sapphire card. I wasn't getting anywhere near those temps with stock fan even at 70%. Mayeb it was just my card.
Actually if you keep the stock cooler on there (and just make room for the base of the arctic cooler), the stock fan should be enough air flow to keep it cool. Plus most people making a mod like this, most likely have adequate air flow already. This is more of a quiet mod. Not a "crank up the fan" or "add 10 more fans". The side 120 on my case is enough air flow to cool down all my cards using the aid of this cooler. I could turn if off and there still fine though.
I just bought the HIS IceQ4 version. My temps never go above 33. I do however have the Smilodon Raidmax case. It has an 80mm intake fan on the left side that blows right at the pipes in the card.
hi i am crossfiring 4850 and if i buy two of Arctic Cooling Accelero S1, Rev2 (non turbo version) i just put it on my gpu and keep the current gpu fan, atm if they run at 80 how much will it drop by if i just put this thing on and if i keep my stock fans at low for low noise?
mine around 50C under max load using zalman cooler.....if you buy gigabytes graphic card.....the graphic card will come with a zalman cooler...quite hard to find tho..
My 4850 has always been too hot. Put it this way, I am sitting idle with fan @ 60% and the temp is 92C. That with stock clock settings on 9.3 drivers. Terrible!
Anyways, I've ordered the cooler and prey that it gives my card a break for all the heat.
Thnx for the video (though I do not plan on tossing away parts)
Its clear that people just don't understand a simple thing. Why would you have to throw your pc away? That makes no since. The kit has Optional memory heat sinks. The key is Optional. There of no use in this mod because the stock cooler is cooling the ram and the Arctic cooler cools the GPU. I can't believe I'm getting a degree in computer engineering right now to explain such a simple thing on youtube.
You don't need them if you cut the factory heat sink to fit with the new cooler. The memory heatsinks that come in the kit don't stick at all to the memory and don't clear the cooling pipes. The factory heat sink/fan works great to cool the memory and voltage regulator.
No, not at all. Actually most games don't use 3 or 4 cores yet. My two cores running at 3.4Ghz run extremely well for the money. I do plan to upgrade to a Phenom II X4 920 or 940 to keep up with up coming games.
i have ati radeon hd 4850. i would never overclock mine XD paid $170 for mine lol. my old computer overclocked fx5200 hahaha maxed everything out and burned the gpu LOL
that was something.
anyways i did it for fun this is my new computer LOL this ones for gaming spent a lot of money and good time building it.
if ya at 61 c at idel with fan 100 percent you must have crap air flow i have 2 cards 1 oem and 1 with custom cooler that came with the card iam getting 66 on oem and 40 on custom cooler i find if i put fan to 60percent that keeps card cool
This is a old mod and its for a high efficiency, quite setup. I run 3 of these in my gaming system right now and i think its a better setup then just a fan adjustment. I can boost up the fan speed and get even lower temps then the normal cooling solution. Like liquid cooling, its not needed but nice to have.
I just installed one of these today on my 4850 plus the turbo module, its a fucking hassle due to the ramsink not fitting properly with the cooler but i eventually fitted it in there, load temp from 100 degrees down to 41 - 45. My case is old school too, greatest solution ever! Reduced the temperature by more than half lol
I just did the fan mod and in my Antec 1200 case my 4850 idles at 32c no feces. Doesn't hit over 40 OC'd and under load, but I do think the heat sink looks cool
I just did your mod. It cost me like 1 hour to cut out the heatsink 0_o. Works verry good! my gpu temp is now idle 40c and the other temps a little bit higher.( with the automatic fanspeed) Thanks a lot!
I have my 4850's in crossfire right now. I show in my video that a small cut to the copper allows the crossfire bridge to be slide between the fins. Just glue the top fins to the copper so they dont slide around. Works great and looks sweet. When i get my 3rd card I'll make another video.
I used a few small cut-off discs on a dremel (1/32" thick). Just make sure you take every thing off the block and set them to the side. Mark your lines, make a few small practice cuts, and go for it. Take your time and wear some eye safty glasses or something. I use my dremel for tones of pc mods.
I use a ULTRA X3 1000w, but I was using a ULTRA 600w. Only upgraded because I enjoy over clocking and I plan on adding a third 4850 one day. ULTRA makes a great power supply, but the 1600w would have required a separate 20A circuit breaker. Its also a Major over kill and thats why I didn't get it.
LOL. Every one knows that. Did you watch the video. Im using the stock cooler to cool the ram and VR. (this is a 2 cooler setup). The ram heat sinks that came with the kit are junk. If you dont glue them down they fall off and they dont even work right because of the lay out of the new cards.
Whats useless. This setup is quite, better cooling then just increasing fan speed, and very good for over clocking. Over clocked and at max load the temp never goes above 52c.
You can put just this cooler on, BUT you would have to cut off the end of the stock heatsink to fit over the voltage regulator. The box comes with one that's made for older cards, Its very easy to cut off. I just made the old Cooler fit around the new one so the ram and VR would be well cooled. Stock fan fits perfect between them both. The ram heat sinks that come with the Arctic cooler suck. You have to glue them down and the bottom one doesnt even fit because it wont clear the third heat pipe.
This will fit the 4870 but a few mods here and there would still have to be made. Its a little more of a challenge but still Well worth it. Zalman makes a cheap kit with Video card ram heatsinks. They fit perfect.
have you overclocked your 4850? and if yes, whats the core/memory max stable for you and how much of a increase in frames of min, avg, max in games of 2007/2008.
I've overclocked both cards at 700/1130. About 5%-8% gain in frames and bench marks. But i don't like to run them over clocked all the time, because no matter what a few hours of playing Fear or Crysis builds up heat and sometimes strange pixelation. About 660/1085 is the sweet spot for me since Im running crossfire and I play for hours when i get the chance.
I'm using same cooler on my 8800GT and I added two 120mm fans, now it takes three slots on my board, but temperatures went in half, I love this cooler.
I love this cooler too. I have 2 120mm fans on the side of my case that blow air across both cards. And I still have the stock fan that came with the cards working under Arctic cooler.
Accelero X2 is a little bit different cooler mostly used on a X1800 and X1900 and has a large fan at the top. Im not sure how well it would fit, and the Accels1 Rev2 is a much superior cooler. Also quiet as a mouse. Ive used a Accelero X1 on a 7800GTX, but no longer made. Now they have the Accelero Xtreme, which is a great cooler if you have a 8800.
I know this video is old now, but I have a 4870 with a jinxed heat sink fan and this heat sink you have in the video is the least expensive I can find. So I'm assuming it will work on a 4870 also?

Its clear that people just don't understand a simple thing. Why would you have to throw your pc away? That makes no since. The kit has Optional memory heat sinks. The key is Optional. 1nazchan 3 years ago
You don't need them if you cut the factory heat sink to fit with the new cooler. The memory heatsinks that come in the kit don't stick at all to the memory and don't clear the cooling pipes. The factory heat sink/fan works great to cool the memory and voltage regulator.

This a Accelero 2???
LCNitro 3 years ago
Accelero X2 is a little bit different cooler mostly used on a X1800 and X1900 and has a large fan at the top. Im not sure how well it would fit, and the Accels1 Rev2 is a much superior cooler. Also quiet as a mouse. Ive used a Accelero X1 on a 7800GTX, but no longer made. Now they have the Accelero Xtreme, which is a great cooler if you have a 8800.
